General consensus – A Johnson win takes away from the enjoyment of the race

i actually don't like the crook rick hendrick, so i'll never be thrilled for any of his drivers to win. but i never minded jeff winning. maybe that was just because he was beating Sr. my driver never could. and i'll never buy into the if you ain't cheating you're not winning or you're not trying. i would never tell my kids they can cheat in school, just try not to get caugh. i will never believe every team cheats. and if chad is as smart as everyone says he is, he knows when he's cheating and it not a mistake.

Chad is too smart to cheat outright. He just tries to find grey areas in the rule book. It's not cheating, IMO. That's innovating. Cheating is adding rocket fuel to your car.

the same thing was said about gary nelson years before chad. i'm starting to think that i just need to pick better drivers to pull for.

too many sr fans w/ way too many budweisers !
but raceday was fine.

Agreed, but I have seen some Gordon fans take the joking around pretty serious and you would think the joker just killed their only child!
 
Hell, Chad Knaus should shake Ray Evernham's hand. Chad will never come close to NASCAR telling him to never bring a car so dominant to the track again & change the rulebook around because of it. Call me when Johnson wins 13 races in one season including 4 in a row. ;) Any Gordon fan mad because Chad is "cheating" is a hypocrite. Although Im still pissed he stole his pit crew.

Point is, its no fun when the dominant driver has no competitive rival. Petty had Allison. Earnhardt had Gordon. Gordon had Wallace. Johnson has.... ?? Maybe Larson or Elliott in a few years, who can know.
 
i have heard gordon fans being berated at bristol. felt bad for them really. but the flags and signs homemade t'shirts that trash him was worse than any i've noticed in any sport. i seen a car antennas bent that had a 24 flag on it.
 
I remember as a kid (was only like 10 years old) going to a race where Gordon got hit pretty hard in the pits & these older guys behind me all started laughing & yelling & pointing my way. I could understand if i was my age now... but i was 10 :youliketh

I think Gary really knew how to cheat. Remember the tricked Monte Carlo that Nelson prepared for Greg Sacks in the Firecracker 400.
It was the only car that I saw in 1985 that was superior to Bill Elliotts speed.
Sacks never had another Cup day that was even close to that standard.
I think Bobby Allison was aggravated by the tricked out stuff too.
He left Bill Gardner or DiGard racing in the same time frame.
Sacks was given the Nelson bag of tricks and he wasnt.

Haven't read this thread yet, but that's pretty awesome.

Jimmie wins are just the norm. Nothing exciting.. Hence, lack of enthusiasm.

i heard some old timers around here talk about gary being so good at cheating that ray charles could have won in a car he prepared. yell the greg sacks thing burnt some bridges for nelson

I don't know about percentages, but I remember being young and hearing words about my driver I didn't quite understand. Don't know if the younger Johnson fans are having those same experiences.. I've never seen destroyed property. But I've heard drunk m'fers saying things they probably shouldn't. Not to mention the signs, fingerpointing, superslurs, etc.

Oh gods, I remember watching that. Jeff Gordon won a race at Talladega and when he came around for his victory lap, it just rained down beer cans upon his car. That has got to be one of the most embarrassing moment in NASCAR history.

I agree Jeff got that hate. The thing that annoyed me about him at the time was the victory lane phone calls to Rick after the race. Plus the comments suggesting that Lord had helped him win the race.

And I mean it was more than the standard at that time "thank the Lord for a good clean race". It was more like God had helped him Jeff in particular. I always knew that was a pathetic POV, as if Heaven would align itself for Jeff.

It was BS, cause anybody with good sense knows that Dale Sr was Gods chosen driver :).

Seriously anyone that harassed a child or damaged personal property is a low life. I never saw any of those offenses, but I will take folks at the word here.

I wouldn't say it takes the enjoyment out of the race when he wins it just leaves a "meh" feeling behind. And that is just because he wins so much - he will be disliked now for this and praised in the future when his raising days are over.
 
Oh gods, could you imagine all the rage and hate for Johnson if he wins 7 or even 8 Championships before it's all said and done? The rage would def. come from the Earnhardt and Petty fans.

Oddly enough when he got rid of Brooke & didnt thank God anymore his career went into a slump ;) then God's little butt buddy Jimmie came along & shoved the holy golden horseshoe up his ass.

Did you read Chads explaination? I paused the video just after chads speil and apparently the official story is that chad did not want to take any chances they are held to such high tolerances blah blah...he was tryin to take his foot out of his mouth
