General consensus – A Johnson win takes away from the enjoyment of the race

Did you read Chads explaination? I paused the video just after chads speil and apparently the official story is that chad did not want to take any chances they are held to such high tolerances blah blah...he was tryin to take his foot out of his mouth
Could be true. He might have pushed a limit 99% of the way, and with all the bumps and bangs that happen at a talladega race it's possible for the car to be pushed outside of tolerance. I doubt it though :D

I heard thats why nascar keeps them off the roof in victory lane now too....tolerances...

Watching pure perfection of historical proportions should be gratifying for anyone that is a student of the game and not just a fan!!!!!!. JMHO.

Its ironic. Im a Gordon fan & was on top of the world until 2002. Now watching JJ do the exact same thing Gordon did is a complete bore. I dont dislike or pull against him, but when he wins, like rockears said, I dont bother to watch the post race.

I missed the latter half of the race but I heard Dillion blew a tire at the end of the race & left debris on the track with no caution?

Yeah, Million did blow a tire with no penalty flag being throw in the last two minutes, I think it was because he was out of bounds. Or, something like that. :idunno:

Someone posted this on facebook. This is way to far

I would have liked to have seen Kevin win it...but the fact that Jimmie won it did not detour me from watching the post race, victory lane, and the whole race over again last night. My toughest challenge this year will be trying to get excited about a road course next weekend. But, i'm a trooper and i'm going to give it 100% of an effort.:D

Unless your a double J fan or apparently a student of the game, chances are another one of his wins take away from the overall experience. That's my take on it.

It's easy enough to respect the guy for his abilities and give him praise but it gets old to this non fan. Take pride in that JJ fans. That's a compliment.

I do notice that the "Rate The Race" scores always seem a bit lower when Jimmie wins.

The races Johnson won also happened to be boring as hell. Not because he won but because Charlotte, Dover and Michigan are three of the five worst tracks in NASCAR - and they all have two races.

I suppose everyone who doesn't like Johnson winning would prefer all the drivers get a participation award.

Even living with a beautiful girl who is a 12 on the 10 scale, owns a liquor store, inherited 50 million and is a nympho gets old....KWIM? Just sayin'

Everyone who is not a johnson fan likes to hate on the dominant guy that is johnson.

I thought about posting one of those "johnson" shirts but thought better of it

Yep. I know exactly what you mean!

i've had a lot of fun over the years going on with my group of racing friends, each of us ragging on the others' drivers, little pools, few little bets here and there, and Jimmie has put a stop to that. he's been so good and done it so often, i'm tired from hating him. now it's like i almost have come to accept it. even if he loses a championship, it not like he's not back being the person to beat the next year. i don't see no driver now or coming up that can change it.

This^^ I'm not a Johnson fan but I'm tired of everyone blaming Nascar's declining ratings on his dominance. Sure it sucks when he whoops the rest of our favorite racers. But the bigger issue, pointed out repeatedly, is the complete and utter lack of on track excitement at most of the current Cup facilities. The Bruton Smith cookie cutter snoozefests, 2 mile paraders, and the concrete coma, coupled with an oversized overpowered panzer tank rolling around the track every week. You flat out can't catch or pass the leader under green regularly. Clean air decides almost every race. Add in the fact that the current broadcast packages for the sport blow rancid chode and it's no wonder people have grown tired of watching.

Rancid chode. Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that. LMAO.

Johnson is a triathlete and a health nut in super shape, so I won't be surprised if he extends his career like Mark Martin did only longer and better. He is going to be the driver to beat for quite a while. Throw up your hands, cry real tears with optional temper tantrums, quit watching, or watch history being made. that's the way it is barring serious injury. He won't win em all though.

Those 5 championships in a row have alot to do with it also. Dont fool yourself. With the onset of the chase, more changes & JJ's dominance, many older fans who watched religiously during the Earnhardt era have walked away. I know a couple.

I'm not saying it's not a contributing factor. It surely does take away some of the allure when one guy reigns over the rest of the field. But every era had it's dominant driver. Before JJ it was Gordon, before that Dale Sr., then Waltrip then Pearson and Petty. I'm pretty sure the sport was doing just fine during those eras and reach all time highs in the 90's into 2000. The problem is the erosion of competiton from top to bottom. Gone are the days of underfunded Alan Kulwicki winning races and stealing a Cup. Gone are the days of the demolition derbys at Bristol when it was the toughest ticket in sports. Nowadays the top of the field is so much better than the back half can't remotely keep up. Nobody outside of the Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske camps have any shot expect on the plate tracks.

It used to be way worse. Competetion is closer than ever. Go back and look at race results from previous decades and see how few finished on the lead lap and how few different winners there were each season.

The thing that hurts the ratings more than anything is the lack of a consistent rivalry. Sure there are flare ups but they all race pretty clean and don't rip into eachother verbally very often.

Oh please, there has always been a very noticeable difference between the top of the field and the back markers. I can remember back in the days of Wild World of Sports, watching Petty, Pearson and the Allisons running away with races, lapping the field multiple times. There will always be the elite teams in Nascar and then the back markers. The sport has evolved, yes there are problems, but I do think in the last two years the racing has gotten better and that Nascar is at least making an effort to continue to make it better. Money will always separate the good from the want to be good. You can't have 43 cars able to win a race every week.
