Just wondering why NASCAR was so concerned with how Tony would represent the series as a champion yet they lobbied very hard to have Gordon host SNL as opposed to Stewart.

Why voice a concern about it if you aren't going to give him the chance in the first place?

Also, Gordon had to have all the scripts for the show proof-read by his pack of lawyers. They demanded any references to marriage or divorce be removed from any of the sketches.

Which is the better representative?

Hmmm in their own right i think both represent the sport quite fine. Jeffy is the good boy gone slightly bad, tarnished now that he is in divorce proceedings. Stewart on the other hand has always been a bad boy, so he has no where to go but up in that catagory. Stewart calls them like he sees them,Jeffy tends to skirt around the issue....btw, heard he is chasing a new skirt;)

We all know that Waltrip does, though.

LOL............................your killing me with that one paul, nice photo of jaw's jr. :heehee:

Gordon is way to valuable as the FHMID*.Totally trained and spoon fed,the guy will not in anyway perform in a way that is not completely sanctioned by FHMID,inc. And by reflecting well on his Masters, the expense of the HOTCD* *seem justified.

And now that Chevy has a driver,Jeff might be needing the income.

Seriously.

*France-Helton media and image device.

**Hendricks only traction control device.

I didn't know NASCAR lobbied SNL to have Jeffy host a show.:) I sure would like to see where they did that. I would think if anyone lobbied any show for any driver to appear as host it would be either the team, sponsor or the driver........NASCAR would only be peripherally envolved, if at all.

You don't think these shows need to ask NASCAR to have their people on? Ok.

I really don't know Paul..........there might something in a contract that requires some type of "permission" but I was just wondering why NASCAR would lobby anyone for a driver or team. That was my question.:)

Just a guess, but I think it's because they don't like Tony Stewart, but they like Jeff Gordon.

That may be true.......but my guess is that Tony didn't want to do a show.:) And Jeffy loves the cameras so I'm sure he jumped at it.:D

I think it was the Steve Bruno show that I heard it on, but Stewart said he felt snubbed that NASCAR stepped in and "prompted" they ask Gordon instead.

OK........if that's true, then that's wrong. I just haven't heard anything about it.

But, do you seriously think Tony would be someone who would want to host a silly show like SNL? I don't. But, if he was asked by SNL and before he had the opportunity to turn it down on his own, NASCAR stepped in and nixed it, then that is wrong.........Tony has every right to be upset about it too.:)

Paul beat me to it,Wrangler. And you know I respect your opinion, but I think it is naive to think Nascar doesn't TIGHTLY control their 'product'.And their product is exactly what Jeff is.

Think about it for a moment:Assuming we are all fans of SNL[for instance],have you ever seen the skits
of i.e John Mccain wearing a dress?Or one of those Baldwin brothers playing a gay scout leader?Or Rudy Guiliani in drag? Now for one second do you believe we will see JG in similar skits?I am sure you could safely bet Heltonco will not have our image boy in anything like that! Gordon is so [imo] superficially crafted and molded that he couldn't cast a shadow.

A slight analogy is any boxer and his 'handlers'.Or a record label cookie-cutter singer and his record company puppetmasters.

The perfect representative of Nascar-controlled is Jeff.I know that steps on a lot of toes[and doesn't mention media product 'B'-Earnhardt jr.]but after all this is just my humble opinion.

Oh well.;) ;)

OK........NASCAR has a stake in anything a driver does that reflects back on NASCAR. That is a given......but, I can't see where NASCAR has much to say if a driver wants to do it anyway. Repercussions? Sure, but as long as the driver (or anyone else within the NASCAR realm) doesn't cause harm or slander then their legal options are very limited. I don't doubt for one minute given a choice between the two that NASCAR would prefer Jeff.........he's experienced at it and he's pretty good at it too.

Looks like a lot of whining here in this thread:rolleyes:

Why isn't Toni doing it?..waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Nascar has nothing to do with SNL and if you believe that, you are not as smart as you think you are.

Approving scripts for SNL by hosts has been the norm since day one. I am sure that he will be the focus of some jokes and I think he will handle it just fine.

And hearing on some show that Toni was miffed doesn't suprise me, he gets miffed at a kid with a poloroid!:p

You can come in here and trash him after the show, which you will watch, and I will just sit back and laugh at you. Quit whining.:D

Another one misses the point.

The point is not, "Why is Gordon doing it and not Tony?" The point is, "Why did NASCAR put their nose into it and make SNL pick on over the other?"

Just in case you had a hard time understanding it the two other times it's been said.

I see your point... Tony should be doing it, not Jeff..
Everybody asked "Would Tony be a good rep for NASCAR?" How will we find out if he never gets the chance?..

I got that part, Paul..........but, I'm just wondering if NASCAR really did do what you say they did. Some show that I've never heard of says it? Wish I had heard it..........or read a transcript.......or even heard about it happening. I'm just having a hard time accepting it on "face value".

And I say again...........if what you say is true, then Tony has every right to be miffed or upset.

I have no doubt at all that Tony would be a good representative for NASCAR.......but he doesn't really seem to want to go out of his way to be a representative. He's a racer.........not a spokesman. :)

Link please to NASCAR butting their nose in the contract between Gordon and SNL please.

Who is more appealing..........a young, handsome, talented, obilging 4X WC champeen..........or 2002 WC champeen NASCAR's poster boy for bad behavior. SNL ain't stupid.

Don't care. Stewart should be hosting that program because he is the most recent champ.

I think the producers of SNL probably have the most to say about who will and who will not host any of their shows.:D

One more thing, if Toni THINKS he is being overlooked as a WC champeen..........maybe he should reflect on how inaccessible and difficult he can be. For those that think that NASCAR is out to get Toni and promote Gordon over him.............we all had to listen all year to how there was no way that NASCAR would EVER LET Toni Stewart win the champeenship.

I just saw a teaser on the news about Dennis Rodman in trouble again.........wouldn't be have nice if the NBA took a little more interest in their athletes?

NASCAR does a pretty good job of keeping things in check.:)

YEP!Nascar never seems to piss us off, unless it refects upon our favorite driver.Tony is not my favorite driver,Nor is Jeff Gordon. But I can fully understand that Jeff was a better option for SLN.For Jeff that is.Not Nascar the sport.Oh that's right racing is not a sport.Hey Jeff when can we see you on ER? :)

I think it's funny how people get upset with drivers with attitudes. Calling him Toni etc because he pisses off the media.

Burndarubber, all that shows is that you've never watched the sport before Gordon came along, because guess what? Drivers weren't very classy people before Gordon came along, fist fights and spin outs were a weekly occurance all throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Welcome to the sport, newbie.

Great observation Paul.Take it easy on the rookies.:argue: :beerchug:

NASCAR doesn't piss me off. Well, a little with rule changes mid season.........but for the most part, as a sanctioning body they do a pretty damned good job.

BRAVO!!! Oh, how I long for the good old days!!:D

Ok Wrangman,I don't want to see you po.:D Jeff is a movie star,And Tony is Jimmy Spencer.:)

No he doesn't............but how long did the NBA allow that to go on before he was "banned"?

Way too long.........so NASCAR gets my coodoos (did I spell that right? Guess so, since it's not a real word anyway!!:) )
