Gordon on all the TV shows

Well sort of pbunch...........but Tony is a little better than Jimmy!!:)

Ok seems to me if Tony Stewart really wanted to do SNL. he would find a way to get hooked up on the show. I Highly doubt Nascar or snl snubbed him over Gordon,no disrespect to you Paul. Gordon is a ham loves the tv thing and like some one else said he is quite good at it. Stewart actually would be good at it too, SNL that is,because he has a good wit and humor about him. I really think their agents have a lot to do with it also. Gordon loves the limelight , Tony does not he would rather focus on the race deal, plus didn't he have to do some apperance thing somewhere else this weekend? Possibly his schedule did not allow an apperance on SNL. Also Jeffy being the poster boy he is would attract lots of wooing from NBC seeing how they cover Nascar, all goes hand in hand.

If you were SNL's producers would you want a 4-time Winston Cup Champ that is a household name even in households where they don't name their kids after their favorite drivers? Or the reigning champ who, no offence, not many people outside of NASCAR really know anything about, if they even know who he is? I am not in any way downplaying the fact that Tony is the reigning champ, it's just that that fact is lost on most non-NASCAR fans.

Excuse me Paul......::: waving ::: but I'm not a newbie ::: blushing shyly ::: I've watched WC racing whenever they'd show it on the west coast for years......also for years was a card carrying member of NASCAR....working in the pits with my husbands pit crew while he raced 1/4 mil dirt track stockcars in northern California. '78 track champ, I might add, before he died (not racing) at the tender age of 36. I was also raised in the same town Vallejo, as Jeff Gordon and watched his rise to fame, even when he moved to Indiana to further his career. I was tickled pink when he entered NASCAR WC.

You guys have to remember that NASCAR is just a governing body.....they set the rules and regulations in order for guys to race their races...........it's prolly in the Owners contract........where a driver gets the "permission" to do extracurrigular activities, not NASCAR'S.

Having been around NASCAR so long, why are you so horribly offended by a driver that isn't spit-polished?

Jeffy is spit polished? Wow........haven't heard that before.:D

Actually, Gordon, Stewart, Jarrett, Labonte, even Earnhardt are all presented as a package. Gordon the cute cuddly, everybody's dream kid (man, now). Labonte the quiet, shy all around nice guy. Jarrett the mature, intelligent, quietly witty type. And the Stewart/Earnhardt type........rough and tumble, nothing but competitive, aggressive racers who think winning is the only answer (sorry, but Stewart and Earnhardt are from the same mold:) ). It's good for the sport.......and NASCAR would be remiss if it did not capitalize on it.:)

It's a professional sport. The sport prospers only if it makes money. Marketing makes the money.......I don't see much wrong with that.:)

Anyone wanna bet that CART, IRL and F1 are not looking into ways to mimick NASCAR?:D

I'm not as horribly offended as you seem to think.........but given the fact that Toni Stewart is an awesome driver......his off track antics leave a bad taste in my mouth, but more importantly, his fans that make every excuse in the book for him and the fact of the matter is that he is nothing more than a poor sport. AND common curtesy is not in his vocabulary.

I'll tackle your first bit of bait before getting to that...

I always saw Tony shunning the cameras and media, I see Jr embracing them.

Tony won the ROTY and championship in NASCAR, as he did in every single other series of racing he was in before it. IRL, USAC Midgets, USAC Silver Crown and USAC Sprints, Kart Foundation and WKA championships. All championships under his belt. Has Jr run anything other than WC and Busch?

If you can provide some examples of how their drives to win are similar I'll buy this round. But until then, comparing Jr and Tony is just more of your silliness.

You've admitted to never watching any other series' but NASCAR Winston Cup...so I highly doubt you're someone that can speak about the direction Formula One is taking...or CART...or IRL.

Please provide examples...if not...yet more of your silliness.

Is this for me, Paul?

Does it sound like it is? Was anyone else in the thread talking about F1, CART and the IRL hoping to mimmick NASCAR?

Was anyone else in the thread comparing Jr to Tony?

I never mentioned Jr.........When I talk about Jr I say Jr. When I talk about Sr I say Earnhardt. Yes, I compared Tony to Dale Ralph Earnhardt Sr.........that, my friend, is a very high compliment.

That would be, but when you mentioned those drivers as all being presented as a package...I assumed you were talking about active drivers. All you said was "Earnhardt", you didn't say Sr or Jr.

I would tend to agree with you about the comparison...but I think Sr liked the celebrity a little bit. Not saying he lavished in it like his son, but he did know how to use it to his advantage...and deal with it.

Stewart hasn't figured that part out yet, and I don't think he ever will...which is fine IMO.

Okay..........your turn for the round!!:D

And I think Tony will figure it out........he's a smart cookie!!:)

Ok, but you do realize that Sr is dead right?

He isn't being presented by NASCAR as anything anymore. He isn't going to be racing ever again.

How is he a poor sport? Because the media tells you so? Because he doesn't want to talk to someone with a microphone when he's exhausted makes him a poor sport?

How is he discourteous? Who is he discourteous to? Fans? Afraid not.

You guys would scare off any new members that might look in to find the best sight.;)

Paul.....yes he is aware Dale Sr is dead............but do you know, he is still in the minds and hearts of a lot of fans, family........I don't know why you two are going on and on about this...this is so infantile........looks to me like it is a power trip......someone wants (has ) to have the last word........but your forum so guess you can do and say what you want too.........:)

Yeah, I do.

But we were talking about how NASCAR is marketing the sport. Earnhardt (Sr) was marketed by NASCAR. No one is racing a ghost. But the "ghost" has made is mark and will always be there as a comparison. Ten years from now Tony Stewart could well be the comparison...........but, at this point in time it's Earnhardt (Sr). I still see no fault with NASCAR for using that fact to make money for the sport.

And I want to know where and how I baited........that's the second time this week you said I baited when I didn't.

Ahem...

It's a discussion board. We are discussing. Is there a certain length of pages a thread is allowed to go? Please let me know that part.

And you're right about the last part.

I thought you were comparing Jr and Tony, that's what I thought was bait.

I agree that they use Sr to market the sport, but I'll add that I think they use Sr to market Jr. They use his father to add drama to his career, his wins and his races.

As far as the telecasters are concerned, he's never even won a race...he's won races for his daddy. Quite a distasteful situation.

Perhaps you conveniently overlooked this post

And perhaps you overlooked me saying, two times, in this thread that I was mistaken about him baiting.

But whatever, pitch your fit.

I didn't overlook that post.............I very much appreciated what you said........and still do............thats why i couldn't understand, why in one thread you could be so nice and another be so mean.......but........your apology is accepted:D

better watch out Mrs pbunch might be watching..DE might be watching..they might accuse us of having an online thing..........:D :D :D :D :D

I'm not mean. I just type what I feel, people take this too seriously.

If we were all sitting at a race debating racing and whatnot, we wouldn't be all smilies and passing around flowers...we'd be saying things like, "You're crazy! You're so out of your mind! I can't believe what I'm hearing!" etc etc.

Yes....after losing a race that he really wanted to win.....ie the Brickyard comes to mind......he throws a hizzy fit after the race....(photogs beware!) and God forbid anybody get in his way. You get my drift.....as listing all his deeds would take too much time......jist that Stewart does suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.

Microphones being stuck under the drivers noses has always been a part of winning and losing races......he signed up for all the good NASCAR has to offer appearently, Gibbs shouldha warned him of all the bad that accompanies NASCAR. Whether his folks neglected to teach him to lose gracefully or not......I don't know but he seems to be unable to do it.

But, hey he''s not my driver......I wonder if he will be setting a new record this year as defending WC champeen.............on probation.
