Harvick Rips Dale Jr. For Performance & Impact on NASCAR

Kyle Damn Busch fans are going to be disappointed, Kevin will get more boo's now than he does. No wonder KDB fans don't like Harvick. They are two peas in the same pod. ;)

I like Harvick, a bit less now that he drives a Ford but I still like him and don't mind to see him win every once in a while.

No, not you TRL (not ever really). I just feel sick that Dale is doing this. His comments are naive as hell. The only people who don't have to know their salaries are the ones who make so much that it doesn't matter. We know that, he doesn't apparently.....and for the love of Jesus, please spare me the "I'm not worthy stuff." If you were worried about that, you would have wanted to know how much you made so that you could make that judgement. Otherwise, you are really saying that it was somebody else's fault you made 40 million a year. Here's news Dale....If you wanted to make less, YOU could have made that happen. Barf, barf, and more barf....and here all this time we thought he was the driver of the people. What a letdown, and now all we are left with is his performance and Delana's wife took care of that. Sobering.
I take it you have no use for Jr. because he is not concerned about his salary.... I'd rather be a Dale Jr, fan that isn't worried about his salary than a Kyle Busch fan that is so wrapped up in himself that if he doesn't win a race he goes off and pouts like a 2 year old... Kyle wouldn't make a pimple on Jr.s ass if the world was coming to an end.......as far as integrity.......

What the he'll lol??? Pimple on jr ass? What the he'll do that even mean haha

This whole thing is so crazy .. harvick gives us nothing but FACTS and people are losing there minds lol.. it's all common sense if the most popular driver actually won more people would be tuned in.. I just don't get what' people don't get about what harvick said .. this is 1st grade stuff here lol

Someone probably has already pointed this out in this thread, but while Kevin is talking about Dale's performance, did Kevin himself not go through quite a dry spell during his career? 2008? 2009? I mean, this has pot-calling-kettle-black kinda vibes to it...

Besides the point. He can't say that his career has not had its flaws. Just saying.

I hope so, thats what I'm looking forward to and I normally don't give a crap about booing anyone... I want Kevin to feel it.

Pretty darn lame for him to take the route he did, if I may be quite honest about it...

Jr. was winning races in 2014 and 2015. Should have won in 2016, but there is no forgetting what happened that year. Due to what happened, he has not been the same this year.

If I had as many concussions, and yet I was driving because I was loyal to my owner and my fans, not because I actually felt like I was a championship contender, yeah I doubt I would be hoisting the Monster Energy Cup at Homestead either, lol.

He overachieved most of his career. Since Harvick's departure, Richard Childress Racing has two wins, and Harvick won the championship his first year removed from RCR.

That really says everything there is to be said about Harvick's Cup career.

Sometimes he did, sometimes he didn't. He still went winless for a long while, just like Jr. Harvick is a good driver, but I don't fully agree with what he said about Jr., especially considering Jr.'s circumstances.

Your point?

Bill Elliott had a seven year drought during his illustrious career. Terry Labonte had a close to five year dry spell. Jeff Burton had a five year winless streak too.

Huh. So they have all gone through the same thing. I wouldn't like it if any of them said the same thing about Jr. It does not make a difference to me. I think I made my point pretty clear when I said "If I had as many concussions, and yet I was driving because I was loyal to my owner and my fans, not because I actually felt like I was a championship contender, yeah I doubt I would be hoisting the Monster Energy Cup at Homestead either, lol."
While you included the other two who are very good imo (have an autographed TL car btw :)), I'm curious, how did Jeff Burton make the list? In fairness, I did not see many of his races... so was he a good driver?

His career wasn't being discussed.
I know it wasn't. But since Harvick DID bring up Dale's performance and stats, I figured I would bring up something about his past performances and what not. :)

Yes.

Fair enough.

However, their respective career performance records don't compare.

Nah... that night... I LOVED the player and the game.

When Logano was suddenly 4th in standings, me and a lot of relatives were laughing and joking. Nah, tbh... that will probably go down as the one time I actually found myself cheering for Harv. I didn't want "no-wins" Newman to get the title, or Logano, and Denny... was just "meh". Or an also-ran.

Actually he'd have three (2010, 2015, 2016).

In b4 "they would have raced different".

No, I wouldn't have said that. I still stand by what I've said so far. When Harv is in bad physical shape and still grindin' every week, "holla at me". :p

Harvick has a point, but I'm not sure the point should be made about Dale Jr, but about Big E.

This sport still revolves around Dale Earnhardt.

Here's a project for everyone. And I already know the results because I've done it before. Round up a bunch of kids and start telling them old Earnhardt stories, like Fox and NBC do all the damn time. Tell them about the 2001 Daytona 500. Ask them if they know who Dale Earnhardt is.

Now, how are you supposed to grow the sport when it, in the minds of many (most) NASCAR fans, it still revolves arond Dale Earnhardt.

The man has been dead for 16 years.

In the meantime, we've got a seven-time champion in Jimmie Johnson, we've got one of the most polarizing athletes in all of sports in Kyle Busch, we've got the throwback Honey Badger driver in Ryan Blaney, we've got the popular prodigy and son of a racing legend in Chase Elliott, we've got the modern day Mr. Excitement in Kyle Larson, we've got Erik Jones, Daniel Suarez, Danica Patrick and Bubba Wallace, and so many others coming up as well.

Yet the sport still revolves around Dale Earnhardt.

How are we going to grow the sport if we don't ever talk about who we have competing in the sport now and instead continue to focus on Dale Earnhardt?

When I turn on a football game and Thomas Edward Patrick Brady is throwing for 300 yards and five touchdowns and winning Super Bowls, I don't hear the announcers keep bringing up Johnny Unitas every chance they get. I don't see hours and hours of documentaries on CBS before the game comes on about Joe Montana or Dan Marino. I don't hear Al Michaels and Cris Colinsworth constantly rehashing old Elway stories.

If you constantly dwell on the past, you can't live in the present or look to the future.
Good post, Andy. The Earnhardt Cult is pervasive, and frankly, I find it kinda creepy. Reminds me of the Elvis Cult. Yesterday Chocolate Myers, an Earnhardt homer if ever there was one, said that Dale Sr. has more fans now than he ever had when alive, and most of 'em claim to have been fans their whole life.

I hope Junior Nation goes off.

Real good driver but never liked Harvick and dood has a special talent for coming off as a complete a$$wipe. Why he felt the need to unload on Jr like this and at this time is puzzling.....

....but even though he should have kept his pie hole closed in this regard the only thing I heard him say that I would disagree with is his implication that Jr's lack of success is the reason NASCAR popularity is sinking.
There are all sorts of reasons that were addressed in a thread a couple weeks ago and I don't remember Jr being mentioned.

Was never a Junior fan but also never ever rooted against him. To me the only thing remarkable about him is his last name. He certainly has always come off as a pretty decent guy who seemed incredibly normal considering his fame......which just makes Harvick feeling he needed to chirp just more curious.

Lastly, the amount of people in 99/2000 who thought Jr was going to totally dominate Cup racing was really something.

Most NASCAR fans make an active effort to dislike or disrespect Jimmie as well. It's either "he's too vaniller" or "cheatin' Chad" or "Chase titles r fake!". No other sporting fan base goes through such an effort to deconstruct a legend like NASCAR fans do with Jimmie Johnson. As much as NFL fans and NBA fans hate losing to Tom Brady and LeBron, they (for the most part) at least hold a lot of respect for them.

I was never a big fan of John Elway but the man had immense talent and is a deserved HOF member. Same thing with Kyle Busch as I am not a big fan of his but for me to try and denigrate his abilities just because I don't root for him would be nuts.

IMO it is much easier to see the athlete's ability in stick and ball as no coach in the world taught Barry Sanders to do what he did and the same goes for Dan Marino and Peyton Manning. Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux were other players that routinely wowed in ways only they could. I think the average Nascar fan can't tell if a car is doing 190 or 170 and can't really differentiate what the driver is doing in the car that makes it perform better or worse. A guy winning a race in a car on rails is glorified and a guy taking a 10th place car and making it a 5th place car is ignored. When I say these things about Nascar fans I am including myself.

My god people are getting butthurt for no reason. Harvick never said Jr. Sucks or is an abomination of a driver. He was on a radio talk show ans was giving his opinion, something we need more of from these drivers. Jr. Is a lot better driver then some people give him credit for, but it's also true that the guy takes up way more of the fan base then he probably should, and a lot of the media attention and hype used on him over the years for being the 10th best driver in the sport could have been used to prop up other talents and personalities in the sport. Fight me

Why do we need to hear drivers opinions? I don't need to hear the opinions of stick and ball players I just need to see them play. I don't care if they are republicans, democrats, pro life or put the roll over or under. Just play the damn game you are contracted for millions to play and do your job to the best of your ability. I don't care about the opinions of my accountant, barber, lawn service people or marina so why would I care about the opinions of people I don't know and don't give a toss about knowing?

That's kinda what this place is about. Does this mean you don't care for us either? That stings a little. Just a little though. :D

almost always scratching my head around here at the motives of some when it comes to the sport of racing. If it made me that miserable I would have been gone a long time ago, instead of bleeding deaconing every damn day. Harvick went down a few notches with me. I know he wasn't involved much with the racing world, proves how far he is out of touch with his comments.

Harvicks championship was phony. The SOB cheated at dega
