Hurricane Season 2024

And me also.

Article about the Atlantic cooling off.
This goes back to what Herschel Walker was trying to teach everyone a few years ago. The overall condition hasn't changed, China just stole our good clean air and sent their bad dirty air to America.

The same science works for the "global warming" it is getting hotter everywhere on land, it seems, while the ocean is getting cooler, to keep everything balanced.

Them scientist need to quit whining and get busy with figuring out while ocean is taking in all the needed cool air and exporting it's own hot unwanted air to land.

Everything good, @Charlie Spencer?

We got some pretty bad storms yesterday afternoon and overnight. Sunny day today but extremely humid.
Yeah, we're fine, thanks. The house is fine, the utilities all work, we have food and water, there's gas in the vehicles. The only two roads out of the neighborhood are closed but the water should subside by tomorrow. It will be a challenge getting to Mom's Alzheimer's facility (or impossible) in Southport for several days since they got 19 inches, but the facility is under a voluntary COVID quarantine anyway.

@KTMLew01 , how did it go over your way?

It's wet. Left windows down on my truck maybe 1/4", when got in this morning, basically had to wring everything out. Need to buy new pair vent shades. The 25 years old ones fell apart long time ago. New style just slip in place. Old were stuck on with tape, then when they fell off, glued with good silicone. That **** ain't ever coming off.

Still wet. Seems to be regular thing when it rains here.

Don't know if the rain has anything to do with it but everything I move outside uncovers 8 million ants. Now I'm scratching like mad. Got nothing accomplished. Probably take a shower with a wire brush. Hate crawly insects. Bleh.

Probably the rain. Their nests are flooded out.

I dropped a Ritz cracker on the floor and a couple minutes later, there were tons of ants. I just dropped bleach on it and killed them all. There were also a bunch hiding under the cabinet speakers and amp that are wasting space in the corner of my apartment.

Hurricane Helene is expected to bring hurricane conditions to Atlanta, and the vocabulary in the NWS warnings about flash flooding in western Carolinas is alone unprecedented.

Funny how never see the Mega Church do this.
CMS has plenty of experience with supporting campers for several days at a time, and more of the necessary facilities. Most large churches are build assuming the majority of use will be one day a week, in the morning, for only a few hours.

I say this strictly in regard to refugees who plan to camp. None of that applies to people in cars hoping for anywhere to crash. I've slept in sanctuaries before on National Guard hurricane operations. Wooden pews wouldn't be my first choice of accommodation but they're dry, better than a concrete floor, and there's a toilet nearby. Any port in a storm, assuming it's available.

Nothing like 80mph at the country's busiest passenger airport. Flight schedules will be tied up for days.

Is the Weather Channel still based in Atlanta? Maybe they won't have to send Jim on the road this time.

Appreciate the concern and interest for old Whizzer.
My Bride and I left Englewood Tuesday afternoon once we saw projections.
We're making a mini-vacation of the hurricane and currently in a hotel on the east coast. Went sightseeing this morning and had lunch at a nice Italian Restaurant downtown Stuart. Some more sightseeing before returning to the hotel.

Funny thing the television doesn't get the weather channel and we pretty much have to watch CNN who offers dire reports of the hurricane. Some people in our community stayed but my guess is the majority living there year round found shelter elsewhere. The county set up emergency shelters in schools and community centers.
First reports are the brunt of the storm began hitting there around 2 and continuing to produce high winds and driving rain as I type this according to weather app on my cell phone. The eye is well past and this is the dirty side of the storm. Damage light from first reports but stronger winds expected between now and 7 p.m. when the official end is predicted. Weather reports on cell phone amazing predicting rain and when it will begin and end, then restart.
Here, it has been windy and rain but these are side winds 160 miles due east. So far so good. We plan to return tomorrow around noon.

Settled in for now with a Michael Connelly book.

Hopefully everything will be intact. More tomorrow.

Got home around 1:30 and found no issues here other than some tree limbs that broke off. No signs of water leaks and no damage outside or anywhere in the community except to homes that were waiting for the owners to return before getting work done that was the result of Hurricane Ian in 2022. It has been that long for people to get contractors lined up and then they want to be here when the work is done ergo greater damage to their house as a result.
All my neighbors are okay although most vacated and went to hotels or friends/relatives elsewhere. Some flooding at other end of Englewood but not so much here
We have Manasota Key as a buffer between us and the Gulf of Mexico. County says only residents allowed in or out. Otherwise things turned out okay.

Once again, appreciate the kind thoughts and words.
