IDK, I think he would make the 88 finish better than now. Funny you write the above question, I just started a thread on this topic of where will he land in 2018
 
Can you think of an available ride you'd rather see him in? To me, the only question is if the #77 will run next year. If it doesn't, I see the #88, #10, or #5 as a step down.
I wouldn't think they would be a step down at all considering how he is doing this year. Sometimes a change is needed. Since the Gibbs cars aren't tearing things up like they are used to I just wonder if it is more a problem of them being able to get a car on the track that the drivers like and is competitive. I'd bet that Matt would go to either of the teams if given a chance and be grateful to get a chance to rub it in Gibbs face that they let him go.

Logically, your point makes sense, but I completely disagree (of course). Gibbs will be the top dog as long as they want to be IMO. In this, I am quite sure.

Considering how long they stayed with MWR, you could be right.
