Not the most likely of the outcomes but certainly well within the range of possibilities as things stand now. That would leave NASCAR with a series champion who doesn’t have a ride for next season (or at least likely only a ride for a back marker team). How would NASCAR explain it?

Not sure they will be required to explain it as somebody will come forward with a ride anyway.

SHR needs someone to put in the 10 car, my first choice would be kenseth for that ride. How do we know he isn't the one being considered for that ride?

I truly believe that Kenseth sand bagged a little at Loudon...multiple times during the race he came from nine to ten seconds down to be right on the leaders tail. Thankfully he was not good on restarts...if he was...NASCAR would have either penalized him or ran over him with a multitude of emergency vehicles.

Both NASCAR and JGR do NOT want him to be a champion again...the "team" while not outwardly being obvious, is not giving the 20 the "good" stuff and most assuredly has them not privy to the same engineering access that the 18 and 11 have.

Supporting evidence, please, especially regarding NASCAR's opposition.

I don't think Nascar needs to explain anything as whether Kenseth is employed or not is not a Nascar decision. I think it would be a fair question to ask JGR and all they would have to say is that they needed a place for Jones and Kenseth was on an expiring contract so he was the odd man out. If Nascar allowed an organization to field 5 teams and JGR had full sponsorship secured they would love to have Matt in a car in 2018.

Just a reminder that you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own set of facts. Is this something you see as blatantly obvious or are you reading between the lines?

matt wins cup, only if nascar wants him to.
but ever since matt disrupted nascars plan for logana,
he has been in the dog house.

Well...let us see. Is it exceptions to the rule...possibly. But let us review just a small amount of circumstantial evidence.

Let us start with the Logano incident...yeah the one at Richmond, actually started at Kansas. How did NASCAR handle that one? Was it a fair teat for tat? Did any other driver in the Cup series get sidelined for a similar incident? Please note: Cup Series.

Logano was and to some extent still is one of the "chosen" ones...you see it just in the hype not in only the NASCAR directed public media portrays, but also right in the NASCAR press releases. You see it in the hype of the "young guns" and how NASCAR promotes the hype against the Kenseths of world.

This has carried through to the last Richmond race and Kenseth being taken out of the race precipitated by a screw up of NASCAR...and then making a judgment call rule adjustment that put him on the five minute clock...an obvious appearance of NASCAR to try and eliminate Kenseth from the playoffs. Whereas just a few years ago, NASCAR made an exception in the other direction to help Jeff Gordon...anyone remember that?

Would love to get into the JGR equipment thing...but believe Jason can cover that.

If Kenseth seriously wins and does not have a ride for next year.

Think of it as a big "F-U" to JGR for not resigning him for next year and to every other team that is avoiding him.

I thought I saw an official putting a big piece of tape on Kenseth's spoiler at Loudon, and a Toyota guy with a fist full of money, I think you are on to something.

ME TOO!! :punkrocke :D

o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O WTF!

Kenseth appeared to be able to run down the leaders over time...but his restarts were so godawful poor he would lose four to six places then have to recover. In the second segment, he was back to eleventh after the start and on Kyle's bumper by the time of Harvick's spin. When he was running eleventh...Kenseth was almost twelve seconds behind the 78 and 18. He was .33 of a second at the time Harvick spun.

He definitely wasn't sandbagging .. dude would kill for a win. He did have a potential race winning car, but flubbed some restarts. He needed a huge long run at the end to have a chance .. just didn't seem to have the car at the point to win it unless he crew would have got him out front on his final stop.

I am going to defer to you on this matter as I don't follow the series close enough to comment on matters like this.

If Kenseth is still in it come Homestead, that's where I'd put my money.

Kenseth's best chance faded away when KyBu snookered the hell out of the #14 on that restart.

we have Derrick Cope entering the fray again. Hoping for him to find the wall late, and Larson can steal another one myself. It's about the only way possible, that or the hope for another Indy restart at this point.

Homestead may very well be Kenseth's last race EVER in a cup car. If he has a chance to win a championship in that race - look out!

I am kind of wanting Matt to win it all since I dont see Kurt making it out the first round at this point, so go Matt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heck, we've had a champion that didn't even compete a whole season. That was explained away. A Series Champion not having a ride next season should be a breeze to explain away.

Still burns apparently. No, you won't ever get over it. Thank for reminding me of one of the most epic comebacks in sports history.
