Indy RACE thread

They look a bit more full in the front stretch .. and probably turn 4

I didn't see but sitting on the inside of the front stretch (tower terrance seats) has always been popular, too. I have to look to see how full those seats are too. I bet there are still 125,000 people there.

Guess we'll never know since NASCAR doesn't release attendance figures anymore. I'm guessing 100K max.

Johnson and Newman really have it hooked up. Watching timing, they're pulling away from one another and to much less of an extend, Newman is pulling away from Johnson. #39 looks strong today. Could be putting on a job audition today.

I didn't know they stopped releasing figures. Lame. Sounds like a gift to publicly traded ISC and SMI. Wall Street doesn't want to see these 170k capacity tracks only selling 85k seats.

They didn't have any problem with it when they were selling out every week back in the 90's and early 00's. I guess they think by not telling us the attendance that we won't notice it's down.

Surprised they don't just tarp off sections. Looks better on TV with tarped sections, but full crowds in the remaining seats that patch crowds in many sections. That's pretty much the standard tactic of any arena or stadium that can't sell-out. Tarp off sections until the remaining seats look packed.

Empty seats never look good on TV. Hell, this race today will be one of the largest sporting events of the year based on raw #s, but all those empty seats look bad on TV. Hard to make 100k+ people look small, but empty seats will do that.

Indy is one of the most legendary tracks, but I'm not sure I'd want to go. I'd assume that it's hard to see anything, especially if you sitting on the stands on pit road.

Unfortunately the sad truth is that NASCAR doesn't care that much about attendance because it has become such a big TV and sponsor-drive sport anymore.

Does this announcer lady listen? She says "every single car complained of being loose"....just like 5 minutes ago Danica said here car was too tight.

I read somewhere that there are no seats at Indy where you can see the whole track.

Serious question.

If the attendance keeps dropping would Nascar leave Indy for another track that could sell tickets? Or is there too much pride involved?

Pretty sure Stenhouse, Truex and Stewart said similar as well (or that's what was reported during the pitstops).

I don't think so. I think it's important to NASCAR to race at Indy as long as they want to be known as the top motorsports organization in America.

Caution free race (so far) with green flag pit stops.

gotta love it . . .
