A double points finale is a crappy gimmick, and yet if any half-measure like this prevents a 'playoffs' from being instituted, so be it. At least Dixon is still rightfully in place to win it based on season-long performance.
The IndyCar points scale is also reasonably fair in how it balances rewarding wins and consistency. I'd perhaps go 50-35-30-27-25 down to a flat 5 points after 15th, but it's close enough.

Big debut weekend from Pato O'Ward so far. Colton Herta has gotten most of the hype, but Pato kicked some major ass in Lights this year.
It's going to take a lot for Rossi to pull this out, but I'm pulling for him. Three consecutive first-time champs would be cool.
Dixon and Rossi are the only two in the top five on blacks to the finish. That should about do it, barring any caution or mechanical failure.
Kimball hasn't done too well this year. He might be out of a job next year.
I thought it wasn't bad for a Sonoma race, although I can't really say I'll miss this place going forwards. Hopefully Laguna Seca pans out. It at least has a history and aura that Sonoma never will.
Very fun season overall; I think they killed it with the new aero on the street circuits, road courses, and short ovals. The three superspeedways probably left something to be desired with the increased turbulent air coming off of the cars there.
Breakout season for Rossi. He's going to be a star for years to come, and hopefully he'll have a lot more battles with Wickens in the future. For the foreseeable future I think IndyCar is in a pretty decent spot.
