Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

I don't want to replace Sonoma IMO.

Barber would be a pain to overtake, VIR would be interesting, Laguna Seca is also extremely narrow with not a lot of areas to overtake. Mid-Ohio would be doable in the end.

I still think Mosport would be the best option along with Road America would be great additions to the schedule. Both tracks offer more overtaking opportunities.
Thank you for thoroughly and logically eviscerating my post. ;)

I’m sorry I misread, I quickly skimmed in between clients at work. My apologies. The movement was for this year, whoops.

FWIW, reports by Motorsport and The Athletic indicate this is mostly because SMI wanted the All-Star in front of fans and they couldn’t do that at Charlotte because of the COVID-19 uptick in NC. It could certainly be an experiment for 2021 and beyond, but so far there’s nothing that says this is long-term or that Bristol would lose a points race as a result.

I wouldn't be shocked if this becomes a rotating event within the Charlotte vicinity. Darlington-Charlotte-Bristol
Eh I don't know. This looks to be yet another Markus Smith idea. He Spent buku bucks and pushed thru the Roval idea when most weren't going for it, and I think he is all over this one too IMO.

You may be right about that. But, how would you feel if they did start moving the race around to different tracks each year?

That's a possibility, but I think it would be to a Smith track. They have had that race for a long time. I think Nascar has figured out they make a better friend than an enemy so they work together. I can't see them cutting any SMI races. :idunno:

I don't have a problem with that. Other then tona and dega, most of the Smith tracks are my fovorite in NASCAR and NHRA anyway.

There is a small road course not too well known outside of road course/sports car racing groups... Limerock Park in the rolling hills of Connecticut. They currently host IMSA, Trans-Am, and have held NASCAR K/N and even Modified Tour races in the past. It is not a world-class facility but they can hold the larger events. I always thought they would be great for an Xfinity or truck race because the track is only 1.5 miles. So they can still run a 100+ lap race and not have 25-40% be run under caution as is the norm for the Xfinity series at Road America.

Also....key factory...1.5 hours from NYC and 2.5 hours from Boston. No this is not NASCAR country but the short track scene (asphalt and dirt) is very fertile up here for the most part. They'd draw a good crowd. Remember even as the NASCAR "boom" was ending Loudon still sold out every race til 2009 or 2010 and had a good following up til just a few years ago.

I'd definitely head up to Lime Rock for that

Pardon me if y’all have heard this but Amazon has expressed some interest in expndi f their presence in the Chicagoland area. Fewr not, lots of important sponsors in the Midwest, especially in the Chicagoland area? Look at Jimmy John’s. Y’all will will be alright up there whether it’s Road America or Chicagoland or Chicago street course or gateway or some combination!

And if I remember correctly, there are only two right-handers on the circuit. That doesn't matter much to me but might help some of the drivers who aren't as fond of road course racing.

Just one left-handed turn! The rest are rights.

It would be a pretty fast track, more like Watkins Glen than Sonoma.

I can’t believe this actually might happen so excited

Boy, it sounds like NASCAR is going to use this as an opportunity to just blow the schedule up. Works for me; it's needed refreshing for a while. The more RCs, the better, esp if they come at the expense of 1.5ers.

I kind of feel the same! Like I prefer the tradition of the schedule because you always knew where they were gonna be and I myself am a creature of habit but there are so many exciting opportunities out there for the series in terms of tracks never visited that I hope they take advantage of it. It's the right time, I Say go for it. Theres no reason really to race twice at Dover, Texas, Kansas, so we saw Dover is down to one race with a new track and hopefully maybe one of the remaining two lose a race for something new. As long as Daytona, Dega, Martinsville and Bristol get two Im fine with whatever happens. Even if Chicagoland gets the axe as sad it will be for me. I am geeked for hopefully a late October playoff race at Road America, its going to be awesome.

Lots of uncertainty surrounding the future of Iowa Speedway right now, with rumors of the track being sold potentially to Roger Penske. A majority of the track staff was laid off earlier this year, they lost all of their Truck/Xfinity races to the pandemic, and the IndyCar races this past weekend were a track rental.

Complete shock. I was certain this track would be on the 2021 schedule, now not so sure

I am shocked. Just shocked. Can Penske save this track?

I think we might be getting more of these articles in the near future sadly, the Covid is going to allow decisions of trimming of some fat to take place... gulp.... Chicagoland....

Oh no not the worlds shortest intermediate as Matt Weaver calls it. What will we do without it.

I wasn’t expecting this news but just like cars in a race there will be comers and goers among the tracks. We have heard all sorts of things from less races to double header weekends to different tracks and at this point I don’t think NASCAR has a handle on it.

My opinion is that the closure of this track had nothing to do with COVID as I think the decision was made at the time of the ISC buyout.

Someone will buy it and do something with it. Who knows as maybe there will be double header action next year.

Kyle Busch does not like this
I'm not upset because whomever is going to be crowned champion this year is going to have to really earn this piece. That's what I like about this and I need to read the article on this, but I feel as if the teams wanted a slicer piece of the pie this season. Save money on tires, race fuel, bringing less personnel, taking less time in vehicle prep and not bringing the backup.

We still get to watch and teams get to save a bit of money, I honestly think this is a win-win. However, I think many will disagree with me. I just felt as if the Daytona RC will require some seat time before the race.
