Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

The first few races after the reconfiguration were the best Bristol races ever IMO. This track went downhill once they decreased the track width after fans were complaining about 3-wide racing
I only remember high groove bristol with no room to pass or use the chrome horn.

Wait a minute I am getting the shaft here.

In 2019 I predicted NASCAR would double the number of road races. They have, they went from 3 to 6.

Then in 2020 my bold prediction came across as beach, but I really meant dirt.
It was an auto correct by racing-forum, which was beyond my control. :)

@DIDIT is like a NASCAR Nostradamus.

I can't wait to see what his prediction for next year is.

I'm looking forward to the entire schedule, looks like a lot of fun to me and challenging new racetracks. Only head scratcher is Atlanta 2. Casino or not, the support doesnt earn them a second race. That had to be a concession to Bruton along with the All Star event for taking Texas

Wow. Can’t believe Michigan lost a race as well. Quite clear they’re trying to move more back to the South
Looks like it is a safe bet to assume that Nascar is moving to better markets for the most part and that has a lot to do with sponsors and their home tracks...sorry Truex

Hey they are the top drivers, time to go do a little saturday night local dirt track racing and hone those skills
couldn't agree more. Wana tout yourselves as being the best in the world..it's the cost of being the boss. Besides if Larson isn't around he might be interested in being a ringer. David Gravel, Shatz, Bell for sure.

Sweet wasn't the best in Xfinity on pavement but he could do it.

Its kind of too cliche to even mention it anymore... but Rockingham...

I really think if there was a way for that deal to come together, it could work now. Its been so long that if Cup were to show up there again one day, it might be a big deal.

in a fantasy world I’d like to Cup scheduled to go there, even if there agreement was only 1-2 seasons, ‘to gauge how it played out’...

I mean, its been over with for 16 years, and Im sure all hope for this is gone... but I just still think theres something there if everything could line up for it to happen...

Now could be the best time to look at the idea than any other time in the last 10-15 years
Didn't they leave there because the fans didn't show up?

So Gateway, IRP, Nashville fairgrounds, and Iowa may be in play for 2022. I'm ok with that and if Bristol dirt goes well I see that being the All-star race in the future
Now these are the kind of changes I am talking about ;)

Didn't they leave there because the fans didn't show up?

yea no one wanted to sit there in February or November.

Bringing it back would sell tickets the first time or two at least... if theres a decline which is notable from the 1st race to the 2nd and so fourth, then thats it... let it go for good

i was just bringing it up in a fantasy sense anyhow, I know Rockingham has no chance at this point.

I'm honestly shocked no Gateway announcement. They got rid of a midwest race from Chicago and Kentucky isn't that far away either really.
Same here. Was hoping Gateway would get a date but hadn’t heard any buzz for a while, so not next year. Maybe 2022?

Fair point, but the schedule changes have been in the works for 2-3 years now. If NASCAR really wanted short tracks on the schedule they could've had talks with certain tracks back then so they could start making the necessary upgrades to host a Cup race.
Why would Nascar want to have races at tracks owned by other people????
You forget they are in this for the money?

COTA and Road America are owned by other people but these races will be run by SMI and ISC, respectively. And SMI still owns North Wilkesboro

I feel like Homestead is one step closer to being forgotten. Its lost its identity already...

After seeing despair from Chicago and Kentucky race fans who are losing their only race dates, I suppose I shouldn't complain about Texas losing one of its two points-paying Cup races and getting the useless All-Star race instead.

If Coronavirus isn't an issue next year, perhaps my dad and I should go down to Austin and attend the inaugural COTA Cup race.

The new schedule looks great if I ignore geography and the ridiculous playoff format, and only pay attention to race tracks.

Hopefully, the six road course races will be entertaining, and the number six turns out to be a good number (not too few, not too many).

The schedule is losing two cookie-cutter tracks and dates, so it'll be more difficult to say they take up too much of the schedule.

I'm not sure about covering the surface of my favorite track (Bristol) in dirt. Maybe it will be good. I guess we'll have to watch to find out.

I'm happy to see Darlington have two dates on the schedule.

I'm in the minority and wish they had just the Southern 500 so that the track doesn't get stale. I would probably be more open to 2 dates there if Atlanta did not have 2

To be honest, only reason that track doesn't get much support is they always pick the dumbest time of the year to do a race there, which they did AGAIN. Unless it's a night race it's going to be horrible. It's so damn hot in July in Georgia,. At least they didn't pick a cold month this time around I guess lol. But that weather is just so horrible. I know it's why I don't go.

It will for sure be really hot.

Like I said earlier, I love it's two days before my birthday, but HATE HATE HATE it's when it's so hot. We'll see if it ends up being a night race I might try to see about getting there, if not 2021, surely 2022. I'll just have to try and get myself seats that are out of the sun.

(I get really really sick if I'm in the sun to long)

You ain't kidding either! I went to Road Atlanta (30 minutes from the house) in July for a MotoAmerica event.
First live racing event for me this whole pandemic year. I was starved for the action and excited. After watching
morning practice and quali - by mid day, I said nope, not worth it. Went back home and watched the final races live on tv.
Even the riders in the podium victory circle were saying how dang hot it was in their interviews. I cant imagine
being in leathers in that heat even if you are going 190mph.

I am honestly shocked at how much racing fans are adverse to attending races in elements that aren't absolutely perfect. Obviously we would all prefer 72 degrees and partly cloudy skies for the event duration, but that isn't realistic.

Part of the fun is saying you watched a race (or other sporting event) in -30 degree temperatures during a blizzard or 100 degree temperatures while being miserable. Those are thd experiences you should cherish because few would dare to say it would ever be enjoyable if you weren't there. EMBRACE THE MOMENT!

If Y'all don't like races in the heat, come north for the ski doo races this winter
at -10F. :sarcasm:
I know, the border is still closed.

But they also moved the All Star race from Concord to Texas, so it's only a net gain of 1 race in the Southeast
I would be surprised if the All Star race stays at Texas after next year.

I feel like Homestead is one step closer to being forgotten. Its lost its identity already...
I agree, but I think placing it after Daytona at the beginning of the season was the best possible scenario for the track.
For those that want nice weather to attend a race, Miami in late February should meet that need.

How many drivers in the field have never raced dirt, much less being elite at it? Isn't it a little silly to put dirt racing amateurs in a dirt race for the top racing series on the planet?

My thoughts exactly.

Normally at Bristol they have Trucks and Exfinity, will they also be on dirt, is there a WOO Race during this race week?

We used to go to Rockingham in March and knock ice off our seats and it was packed and Darlington on labor day at noon was boiling hot and it also was packed. What changed? NFL teams play in the winter and their fans show up while its snowing. Too many other ways to consume sports now

If you think Eddie put up a fight to keep COTA from getting a date and TMS's expense, you ain't seen nothing compared to what Roger will do to keep IMS from losing Xfinity to IRP. I've been as much in favor of returning to IRP as anyone else here, but the race Xfinity ran on the Indy infield is going to make it -very- difficult to justify moving it back. I think the Trucks are the best you can hope for, and they were always plenty more than good enough.
