Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

You ever heard of a private business which relies on advertising revenue tell advertisers that things are anything less than rosy?

Got a real Mensa up in here.
Eh, sorry when it comes to dependable information, I'll have to go with them instead of you, sorry no offence

As is the Coke Zero 400 and the Brickyard 400 still exists too! And NASCAR never got rid of the Southern 500!
you aren't paying attention:

“Ben Kennedy (senior vice president of strategy and innovation) and the team put together the most aggressive schedule we’ve had in 50 years. I think it worked. Attendance was fantastic at all the new venues. The racing was good at all the new venues.

“As we look to the schedule in 2022, going to the L.A. Coliseum to kick off our debut with our Next Gen car as a proof point, frankly, to we’re going to be bold in what we’re doing, whether it’s the schedule or the car—all of it—we’re going to take calculated risks.”

What I’m saying is, I could see the LA Coliseum eventually replacing Fontana.

Again, nothing is off the table.

Their biased Fan Council and 15 new viewers on NBC one week says everything’s great.
That wouldn't hurt my feelings any. I have never been excited watching a race live at Fontana, and I must not be the only one because the last 2 times I was there parking was a breeze due to the low attendance. The last time I was there I ended up going home early and watching the finish on tv. If it wasn't for free tickets there is no way I would have went to start with. But, I'm really looking forward to the race at the Coliseum.

“Nothing is off the table with the Jim France regime” I think is the exact words I used an hour or so ago. Meaning I’ve been paying attention for years and know nothing is sacred anymore.

The “Brickyard 400” is being run on a ******* infield road course.

And nowhere does that quote deny that NASCAR has been thinking about starting the season with a Western swing because they’ve at least thought about that.

Ya sound fearful, it will be ok.

I like the plans I have seen for the new short track in Cali. It's like the coliseum is the warm up for it.

I'm sure I will love going to a short track race at Fontana. But, I'm over the super speedway live viewing there. I do enjoy it on tv though.

The new configuration is no longer a sure fire guarantee.
Again you aren't paying attention. Get your shorts out and your tee, it is snowing right?

On whether Auto Club Speedway is still on schedule to be converted to a short track by 2023:

PHELPS: ”I don’t know. There are a lot of uphill battles we have from a timing perspective. We are hopeful, right? Part of it has to do with there’s going to be a conversion of the two mile, right? What we know as the two-mile racetrack where we’re going to race next year, we’re selling some land around that. There are entitlements to it that no one really cares about, but we’ve got to make sure those things get done so we then can take the next steps to build that short track.

maybe they will use some of that new rosin and it will open up more passing lanes. I've seen some pretty good racing there, but as you say attendance is really light, time to change it up

IMO Dover’s fate is sealed.

Chicagoland is done for and NASCAR is exploring a street course race in Chicago. Of course they’d dump Fontana to go to Fake Bowman Gray. Nothing is off the table with the Jim France regime.

Found this tweet funny:

Calm down, I highly doubt they’re buying a track just to shut it down in Dover’s instance.

They bought Rockingham and North Wilkesboro for that reason IIRC.

If anything I think this ends the Nashville Fairgrounds project. Not much point if they already have a track in that market anyway.

Rockingham lost races due to the Ferko lawsuit due to Texas. North Wilkesboro lost a race due to Texas.

Dover is a good track. I wish I could support it.

Win or lose, SMI gets the Nashville market anyway. Brilliant, now they don't NEED the Fairgrounds should negotiations with the city fail.

This means at minimum, SMI stays in Nashville and has a race ready facility. Even if Nashville Fairgrounds falls through, that money they had earmarked can just go to the Superspeedway. SMI wins either way

Still, I hope we don't lose Dover over this. Besides, if an SMI date has to get cut to make room for North Wilkesboro, why not just Atlanta.

I know.

Why would SMI give a second date to a track like Atlanta that has struggled with attendance for years though? That still doesn't make sense

Atlanta had pretty solid attendance for both races this year. And they are renovating the track.

I’m all for losing a Texas & Atlanta race for a Kentucky & North Wilkesboro race tbh.

The North Wilkesboro thing has always puzzled me though. I’ve never been that impressed with the racing I’ve watched from there. I got into this stuff in time to see several when I was young… and I’ve since gone back and seen others… I cannot say I’ve watched a full race that I would hype up to someone who hasn’t seen racing there before.

I’m trying to understand where NASCAR is going… but also how things like Wilkesboro & Nashville Fairgrounds have remained relevant in rumors…

I feel like Dale Jr has helped keep those names relevant because he has mentioned them often… maybe that’s what has created such internet hype for those two facilities?

Okay, without using phrases like ‘tradition’ and ‘We’ve done it this way for years’, explain why starting the season outside Daytona is one of those things.

The NFL being dumb and expanding their schedule to 18 games with an additional bye week is the reason why.

It’s short track racing. Are you bored by Martinsville and Bristol?

Bristol and Martinsville are great. I personally don’t think Wilkesboro ever put on a show like those two. Even back 25 years ago, Martinsville and Bristol carried so much more momentum in fans eyes it seemed to me

So take off the Southern 500 right?

Daytona on the 4th of July & Brickyard not at the oval is egregious to me.

Also LOL at taking away the Clash at Daytona and giving them Modifieds in New Smyrna. How about we take away the tradition of having two Texas races.
Moving the S500 isn’t the same thing as removing it. I’ve been going to Darlington over 20 years and have always preferred the spring weekend.

And you haven’t answered my question. Why should the season start at Daytona, other than it currently does?

I already told you my speal. The NFL expanding to 18 games, 20 weeks would be a reason to start out West. It’s not a complicated explanation.

I think the marketing aspect “The Super Bowl Of Racing” as it’s been marketed for years only fits as the first race of the season or last race. I don’t think it’d hit right in March or whenever it gets changed to. Why do you feel the date should change?

The 1988 Tyson Holley Farms 400 was pretty awesome. I’ll take another Wilkesboro race over another one at Texas or Kansas

But the NFL has West Coast teams too. There’s an NFC West and AFC West

lol those were my first thoughts exactly.

IIRC ISC bought Pikes Peak/Colorado National to shut it down, bought Nazareth to shut it down, and maybeeee bought Chicago Motor Speedway to shut it down. It is a very real concern an operator buys a track just to close it.

Chicago Motor Speedway was shut down by the town it was in, Cicero if I remember correctly.
