IS IT THE DRIVER OR CAR??

A total of 4 wins over 3 years. Nothing to sneeze at, for sure, but it's nothing compared to his performance at Gibbs. He won 8 races in his first year at Gibbs. The team is always going to be a major factor.
Damn 8 in his first year at Gibbs???? Wow!!! Thanks for the info .. I never knew that lol..

That shows what chemistry can add to it too. We all know HMS equipment wasn’t junk.

David Smith and his company, Motorsports Analytics, is in the business of analyzing the many tons of Nascar performance data, and drawing conclusions about relative performance. He is the sabermetrics guru of American stock car racing. His analysis is consistently applied and quantitatively rigorous. That doesn't mean his insight is infallible, but his data-driven approach has credibility that is lacking in the Nascar media and internet discussion boards, IMO.

A centerpiece of his body of work is the PEER analysis... Production in Equal Equipment Rating. This attempts to measure driver performance independently of car, crew chief, and team. Although not without controversy, this analysis adds insight to casual observations from the couch, I believe. Martin Truex has generally rated as a quality driver in this analysis, although he dipped to #20 in 2014, his first year with Furniture Row Racing. So that adds some credibility to his #1 ranking after 30 races this year, the position he has held since last spring.

1 Martin Truex 3.690
2 Kyle Larson 3.414
3 Kyle Busch 3.328
4 Brad Keselowski 2.552
4 Denny Hamlin 2.552
6 Kevin Harvick 2.509
7 Joey Logano 2.466
8 Clint Bowyer 2.284
9 Chase Elliott 1.862
10 Erik Jones 1.810
11 Ryan Newman 1.802
12 Kurt Busch 1.612
13 Matt Kenseth 1.448
14 Daniel Suárez 1.379
15 Jamie McMurray 1.328
16 Jimmie Johnson 1.207
17 Aric Almirola 0.886
18 Ricky Stenhouse 0.871
19 David Ragan 0.655
20 AJ Allmendinger 0.638
20 Matt DiBenedetto 0.638
22 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 0.509
23 Trevor Bayne 0.500
24 Chris Buescher 0.483

You have to take into account the specific car and the specific driver to draw an accurate conclusion to the incredibly generic question.

And a Truex fan can turn it right back around and quote Larson saying "they didn't have the best car." Either he's taking a fifth place car and turning it to a winner, or he's riding the equipment to a sure win. He's earned his place in the Nascar ranks. Truex is a great driver. He always has been. It just took some time to find the right team. His second championship in the Xfinity series he beat one Kyle Busch, who was driving for Hendricks, proves it. He was driving for the DEI team at the time. He won a race driving the Steve Park car for DEI. He won in the 56 for Waltrip, twice.

The man you are doubting is starting to win. He's done his job. That's all a fan of his can do..

Denny has no damned clue or he would be winning .............. what the hell does "reserve speed" even mean ? push to pass button or what ? Truex made his car better Sunday ............ Hamlin didn't

I was referring to the 78 builds their on bodies, but I am sorry I triggered you Kyle.:pbjtime:

It appeared to me that you said Furniture Row gets parts and engines from Gibbs. It made sense to me to say the engines come from TRD in California.

I wish I hadn't.

I think if you look at Joey Logano and the 20 car you'd see the answer to this question. Quite simply, there isn't one. Joey didn't set the world on fire in the 20 but is a perineal title contender in the 22. The 20 team also became an instant contender after he left.
Check your facts. After Joey left they also got rid of Tony's old CC and in my opinion "He was the problem with the 20 Team."
