It's TALLADEGA BABY!!!

Edwards and Bayne are going to ride around in the back all day until the end? While I get the strategy, I don't agree with it. That's what sucks about plate races. Some teams think of it as a short race to the finish at the end. Might as well change the race to only 20 laps and let everyone have at it. If I was a fan of Edwards I would be seriously bummed by that strategy. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't guarantee that you will avoid the big one (unless you are a half-lap back). When the big one happens I would much rather be the leader than way back in the pack.

I can't respect a racer who want's to go slow. I hope he does the same thing he did in '08. Watching these guys race to the back isn't a show I want to see.

I've never respected the hang back and watch what happens strategy either, thats not what racing is about! What happens if 40 other drivers do the same thing? It would be cool to see two cars break away and lap the guys with that strategy and with that 100k on the line I'm thinking there'll be some takers :D
LOL, remember when Bill Elliot made up two laps at Talladegga back in 85-86?

Maybe we'd have our huge pack of 43 cars again since they'd all be trying to run in that same position? It might be entertaining as all heck should everyone try to run in the back. It may end up being a battle of who can go the slowest to stay back there. :D

I agree though. I don't remember exactly what period of time some drivers felt the need to run way back there. I remember them making a big deal about Dale Jarrett doing it quite a while ago. While it pays off for those guys sometimes, other times it ends up costing them. Whoever chooses to do so, I hope it comes to bite them in the a$$ when the run out of time to move up there at the end. I've been fortunate that my driver likes to run up front in these races.

KB paint scheme this weekend. Looks good IMO.....

T.J. Bell's in honor of #77 Ford this weekend. Nice gesture IMO.....

TJ Bell was teammates with Dan Wheldon in Formula Ford 2000s.

Small crowd expected @ Talladega this weekend? Most of upper level seats in Turn 4 and Turn 1 covered. Maybe fans are sending a message to NASCAR about the 2X2?

I've never been to a Nascar race so pardon my dumb question. Whey they don't sell a lot of seats do they just move everyone into one group and tarp off the rest of the seats?

Usually they do. I guess they save money by opening fewer restrooms, parking lots and concession stands.

Like Stewart Fan, I also have never been to a Nascar race. So if the stands aren't full, are you told where to sit no matter the seat number on your ticket?

You sit in what ever seat they sell you. I've been to plenty that have been far from a sell-out and have never been directed to sit somewhere else. They simply don't sell tickets for the areas that they are covering.

In the races I have been to, if there is not a sell-out, you are pretty much free to sit in any vacant seat - with the exception of Club Seats, of course. The rich folk don't want to have to rub shoulders with any of us General Admission Losers!!

I like to go to AAA Speedway in Fontucky for the n'wide race. I start out at the western end of the grandstands (exit of turn 4) and work my way towards turn 1 as the race progresses. That way I am close to the parking lot after the race. There are always lots of empty seats on Saturdays so it's easy to "float".

I think what 17D is asking is if you can "Upgrade" your seating if no one is sitting in a better seat than yours? Thats a can do with the understanding that if the seat ticket holder shows up you have to move.
That help?

So far this new rules package looks like it is making absolutely no difference @ all. They still seem to be able to run pretty much as long as they want in a 2X2 formation without much position swapping as long as the pusher puts his nose out a little to one side or the other. If you are interested in watching practice online, here's a link.

Early in practice, Edwards and Biffle are running OVER 198 mph Average Lap Speeds. This is crazy sh!t, Mang!!

Actually, what I was getting it is if they plan on a sell out but don't get it, how do they cover parts of the stands if they've sold tickets to those seats?

That is what I though you meant. I don't believe that they sell tickets to seats that they end up covering. I go back to my original answer.

Texas Motor Speedway is a perfect example to use for answering 17D's question. And this kinda goes back a few years but still is a great example.

On CUP weekends, before the economy tanked and before they added a second date at TMS, the backstretch seats would be covered with advertising tarps for the Busch race - because the attendance was low enough that they could fit all of the attendees in the main grandstand (and infield). But by Sunday morning, the tarps were gone and the seats were mostly filled when the Green Flag flew. And it was a spectacular sight to see 250,000 or more at that facility.

If you had a grandstand seat for the CUP race, you were pretty much locked in to that location. But if you were in the grandstands for the Busch race, you could move to any open seats - with the exception of the Club Seats which were "owned" by season ticket holders.

Since adding a second date at TMS, the attendance is below capacity for even the CUP race. I plan on being there in a couple of weeks so it will be interesting to see if a Chase Race has any impact on Sunday's attendance.

Weekend hasn't started well for Kyle Busch. He destroyed his primary car in practice.

And Larry Mac blames it on the 35 laps he put on the tires until he was told the tire in fact had 12 laps?

It then HAD to be debris.

Claire B. Lang had a rep on from GoodYear last night that stated that prior to the blown tire, Kyle had flat spotted the tires getting down to speed coming on to pit road. He was on the same tires when he went right back out and then the tire let go.

Stewart..... The odd man out.

The Chase contenders and who they've been working with on their 2X2 pairings.

Among Chase drivers, the pairs in practice:

• Carl Edwards with Greg Biffle

• Kevin Harvick with Paul Menard

• Matt Kenseth with David Ragan

• Kyle Busch with Joey Logano

• Tony Stewart with Bobby Labonte and Landon Cassill

• Brad Keselowski with Dave Blaney

• Kurt Busch and Regan Smith

• Jimmie Johnson with Dale Earnhardt Jr. (both in Chase)

• Ryan Newman with Denny Hamlin (both in Chase)

• Jeff Gordon with Mark Martin

Stewart had worked with David Gilliland in the past but Stewart said it was his understanding that Ford drivers were instructed not to draft with him.

So that left Stewart looking for someone.

“I kind of heard the Ford guys are kind of being told they have to stay with Ford guys,” Stewart said. “We’ve got all today and tomorrow to figure out exactly who it’s going to be.

“We don’t need to know right now. It would be nice to know. But we thought we had a plan but it sounded like it got dismantled.”

Among other pairings were teammates: Brian Vickers-Kasey Kahne, AJ Allmendinger-Marcos Ambrose, Clint Bowyer-Jeff Burton, Truex Jr.-Reutimann and Juan Pablo Montoya-Jamie McMurray.

“It’s real important to have a similar philosophy in how you want to run this race and where you want to be when,” Stewart said. “If you’ve got a guy that wants to go up and lead the whole race versus somebody like me that likes to hang around in the back the first half of the race, those philosophies are not going to match.”

I thought Edwards was supposed to be paired with Bayne and didn't see #2 in the list.

Yes, I thought so too. Bayne was saying that but it sure didn't work out that way yesterday. Jack doesn't want his drivers working with anyone else. The matchup of Edwards/Biffle is pretty interesting IMO given their history. They haven't exactly worked well together in the past.

And #2 Keselowski is on there with Blaney. Another odd matchup IMO.

It would appear the Roush isn't the only owner that doesn't want his drivers working with anyone else and I can't really fault RFR/HMS for that.

I know if I was in Edward's situation, Biffle is exactly the guy I want to team up with. I sure wouldn't want someone in the chase and from another team:)

i like the kennseth/ragan team up. also like stewart/labonte for old times sake.

It doesn't matter what the drivers or owners want. Come the final laps they are gonna push whoever is in front of them.

OK, it's official. Used love watching 'Dega, but now it's a completely pre-arranged dance session. It was bad enough, now it's even worse.
