In October it will be fours years since Jeff won a cup race. Does that sound familiar? When I started looking at statistics, I see he has only had four wins in nearly eleven years.

How does this go unnoticed? How does he keep his ride?

And the press loves Jr as well but this was hanging over his head for years.

As soon as the Dillon boys are ready, he'll be looking for a ride, I suspect.

I think that he does have a few things going for him. He is great with sponsors , fans and fellow drivers ; he doesn't tear up race cars ; he has a great wife ; and he is a top twelve driver . That said , most of the great drivers like DW and Rusty finished out the last half dozen years with very few trips to victory lane .

Rumor is, Caterpillar loves Burton. As long as they do, he'll have a ride. If Menard doesn't have more success, I expect him to move to Roush if they still have room in 2014.

I knew it's been a while for him but 4 wins in eleven years is surprising to me. I guess it pays not to be an a** sometimes and have the respect he does.

Jeff Gordon may well be winding down his career in the same way . One or two wins per year , but as long as the sponsors love him he will have a ride as long as he wants to drive . Oh and a great wife there too.

You'd think people would worry more about their own wives than those of Nascar drivers.

Sponsors love him. You don't have to be super talented to get a full time ride in cup. Landon Cassill still is getting his feet wet in the upper series and he gets a full time ride, Paul Menard raced for about 5 or 6 years with his daddys sponsor till he finally got a win. Yet guys like Brian Vickers dont have a full time ride and young guys like Sorenson and Casey Atwood were rushed and thrown away as quick as they came.

Brad said it best 2 years ago. The days of rushing a young driver to Cup in the hope of finding the next Jeff Gordon are over.

My thoughts on them has nothing to do with worry, I can raise my right hand to that fact.

The wives like looking too. Their just more discreet

Burton still ranks tenth in wins among active drivers . He is ahead of Carl, Denny,Harvick, Biffle,Newman, Brad,.etc..

I would hope so...he's been racing for 20 years!

So let's have a look, shall we?

Burton, 20 yrs, 21 wins
Newman, 13 yrs, 16 wins
Harvick, 12 yrs, 18 wins
Biffle, 11 yrs, 17 wins
Edwards, 9 yrs, 19 wins
Hamlin 8 yrs, 19 wins
Keselowski 5 yrs, 6 wins

Edwards and Biffle together equal 20 years and 36 wins.

Harvick and Hamlin together equal 20 years and 37 wins.

Just the fact of the stats http://www.racing-reference.info/

Cool game .. DW 84 wins 29yrs + Bayne 1 win 1 yrs = 85 wins 30yrs v/s Jeff Gordon 85 wins 21 yrs

It is, isn't it :D Playing with numbers to prove a point.

Pearson+Allison 190 wins

Petty+no one 200 wins.

Jeffs best years was in the Rousch 99 exide car. A little bounce back early in the 31,but never as good as before.

Mark Martin 40 wins over 30 yrs . Had two or three good years , but for the most part 1 win per year.
