Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I broke a spring once on my lawnmower. The thing just stopped moving. I put a new one on and I was mowing again.

However, I did not lose a bunch of points when it happened. It did cost me a gallon of gas to find a new spring, and the new spring cost and about an hour of my time. Compared to me, Jeff Gordon is a huge loser.
