Johali's rate the Cup race --- Daytona

Had a tough time watching the Toyota manipulation of the race.
I thought NASCAR prohibited teams and manufacturers from orders that manipulate the race. Of course everyone knows that doesn’t apply to super speedways.

7.5

I like Daytona more than most. And this was one of the better 500’s. But not a fan of what the Next Gen has turned these races into.

The best super-speedway race one can hope for these days -- a sufficient number of wrecks and a pass for the win at the end.

6.5

I'm not a fan of modern plate racing, but a Daytona 500 Harley J. Earl Trophy is highly coveted by *every* industry participant... so this makes it an important event and worthy of interest. This was an excellent Daytona 500, with high tension from green to checkers, and a Karma-laden finish that was highly rewarding. To see Jim France, after spending over a year trying to kick 23XI out of Nascar, to be forced by the duty of his office to fake a smile and congratulate Michael Jordan... priceless.

My Karma-laden rating = 9.5x

I thought Brad K had a good shot coming to the line. He had a "huge run" (Brad's words) with the 22 pushing hard from behind. Chase Elliott had the lead but he had no help, he was a sitting duck. When Tyler Reddick made a move that Herbst couldn't follow, he also became a sitting duck. It was there for Brad (IMO)... until Herbst wrecked Kez into the wall and delivered the win to his teammate. Oh well, maybe next year, Brad. I'm not saying Herbst wrecked the 6 intentionally, I do not believe it was intentional.

10. best next-gen superspeedway race in memory. (the frozen field fuel save stuff has to go tho)

First 188 laps, -100. Last 12 laps, 8. Tell me WHY I should watch the first 180 laps of this race. I could bring up an interstate traffic cam and see the same thing I saw (minus the wrecks). Even at that, it took TWO wrecks to make those final few laps stand out. I just don't understand the appeal. 👎

3 typical boring plate race, more concerned with saving gas than racing. A little excitement at the end doesn't make up for 480 miles of boring.
