No he is not.He wasnt? I can see why you would think that but the fact is he didnt have the engineering and top equipment behind him. He's as good as any driver in cup right now, even at 49.

I agree. At this point in his life, I'm not sure he is Connor Zilisch good.No he is not.
He showed flashes, was briefly in the top 10. Disappointing result, but nothing to be ashamed of.32nd, 1 lap down.
The gerbs called his number a few times and the car was shown, that was the plan I think. I bet he had a fun time too.32nd, 1 lap down.
Ran top 10 and has top 5 lap times during the race. Tire failure was the culprit.32nd, 1 lap down.
I don't believe he ever would have SEEN the top 10 without flipping the stages though.Ran top 10 and has top 5 lap times during the race. Tire failure was the culprit.
The same applies to pretty much everyone outside the top 10. Montoya did great, tire issue wasn't his fault.I don't believe he ever would have SEEN the top 10 without flipping the stages though.
I don't get how you can expect a lot from someone that age, especially with no experience in the car. He's as good as any driver in cup right now, even at 49.
I didnt expect him to win, he did exactly what I thought he would do, top 10 which was within his reach without the tire issues. Many times I checked lap times and Montoya was faster than the leader and when he wasnt he was still top 5 of lap times.I don't get how you can expect a lot from someone that age, especially with no experience in the car.
Even for drivers with high longevity the turnaround usually comes at some point in their mid 40s.
Helio was nowhere near his former self when he got that full-time ride for two years after winning the 500. Matt Crafton has clearly started to fade in the last two years after like 50 seasons in the truck series.
Even DW and Petty were not competitive at all in their last few years in Cup and neither is JJ.
What you "believe" and reality are miles apartI don't believe he ever would have SEEN the top 10 without flipping the stages though.
