Kenseth?

and yet we get reports like this, from jayski:

Now however the article says he will be driving for a new team, not a new organization. So he could still be with JGR, just in a 4th car...

Thanks for the info. This is getting interesting.

For the record, I'm predicting a 3rd car for Penske with Kenseth behind the wheel.

I've been all over the map with this, but I did have some thoughts about Matt and Penske. Then Penske said they hadn't talked to Matt, and Ford wrote that goodbye letter. Matt would be a perfect fit for Pennzoil, but Penske is saying that AJ is doing fine.

Here's an out there theory, with all the out there proof. lol

Roger and Andretti have close connections in the Indy series. Andretti buys Penske's engine department because Jack and Yates have agreed to supply engines to Penske. But Jack has a problem. He's stuck paying Matts salary because of a sponsor shortage, and Ricky has an escape clause if Jack doesn't get him to fulltime cup in 2013. Roger to the rescue. He convinces Andretti to take AJ AND Kurt Busch, but AJ is headed to Indy car and Kurt will drive the Cup car.

[Evidence? Not a friggin shred of it, but that isn't going to stop me, because this is way better than talking about parking at Kentucky.]

Here's the hard evidence. Last week, Kurt announced that if he can keep his head straight, he'll be racing for wins EVERY week. Clearly, he didn't mean with Phoenix racing, he meant with Andretti, because nobody else will take him. Recently, a top CC said, off the record, that he wouldn't hesitate to leave the big organization he's with and go to a new one to CC for Kurt Busch because he's so talented.

There's more. After Brad won Talladega, Matt had high praise for him. Matt pointed out that not many people realize just how hard Brad works at it. So how does Matt know how hard Brad works? This is definative proof that Matt WAS at Penske to do a deal, and he saw Brad sweeping the floors and cleaning the windows. If that isn't enough to convince you, consider Kyle's bizzare statements after Talladega. He was outright kissing Brads ass, when we all know he hates the guy. Why would he do this? Kyle knows that Kurt needs Penske on his side, so he sucked up to Brad to help his brother get the Andretti ride.

I'm surprised nobody has pieced all this together already.

Jack Roush is in the media center addressing reporters.....

Jack Roush: "Surprised when I learned he would not be signing with us to go forward." Says he didn't realize Kenseth close to leaving.

Roush said he and Kenseth have agreed not to discuss details of their conversations.

JRoush: sponsorship was not an issue for JR and Matt, JR says.

Roush: Matt and I, the friendship part will survive..jokes Kenseth "will be moving to the dark side"

Roush: "His leaving team creates a hole, that weve got a very capable, able, ready, enthusiastic drivers, two, ready to fill - Ricky/Trevor"

Jack Roush: Plan is to have Trevor Bayne in a full-time ride of some kind next year as well as Ricky.

Roush says Jimmy Fennig will likely be Stenhouse Jr.'s crew chief (not current Nationwide CC Mike Kelley).

Jack Roush says Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will drive the No. 17 car next year, not the No. 6.

Give Kenseth credit for keeping a secret, it is getting like who shot J. R.Ewing.

I am just gonna think about Samantha Busch.

OK, I'm moving to another spot on the map. Would could get the points leader to leave his organization? I think every driver would jump ship to get into HMS equiptment, especially after seeing Tony win the Cup last year.

Damn, this is driving me nuts. If he goes to SHR, it's simple. If he goes to an existing team, the dominos could be falling for weeks.

Maybe you should take a break and step out for a latte or something, you know?

I don't think Trevor is ready for a full time ride in Cup next season cause he's only raced in 11 total races this year. 6 in cup and 5 in nationwide. That is not the way to prepare for a full time Cup schedule.

SPARTA, Ky. -- NASCAR team owner Jack Roush said Friday he was surprised to learn Matt Kenseth was leaving Roush Fenway Racing, and Roush wished he would have done more things to keep him.

RFR announced Tuesday that Kenseth would leave the organization at the end of the season and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the defending Nationwide Series champion, will replace Kenseth in the No. 17 Ford in Sprint Cup.
Kenseth has said he has a new deal in place with another team but isn't ready to make an announcement.
"I will say I was surprised when I learned [Kenseth] would not be signing with us," Roush said at Kentucky Speedway. "I won't comment on any of the negotiations because we have an agreement not to talk about that."
But Roush added that he probably could have done more to re-sign Kenseth, the 2003 Cup champion, had he known Kenseth was serious about leaving.
"If I was as diligent on that end as I am about finding out why a fuel pump broke, I might have been able to stop it," Roush said. "From my standpoint, he will be moving to the dark side.
"But the friendship part for us will survive. I've not lost respect for Matt and I hope he hasn't for me. I've enjoyed the 15 years with Matt and the success he's had as a driver. He is a cornerstone here and his DNA is all over this organization."

So Jack didn't know Matt was leaving? Matt doesn't seem like the sneaky kind but I could be wrong.

huh? I think Matt told Jack as soon as he had a deal. If Jack didn't think Matt would talk to other organization during a contract year, he's a fool.

Really. Surely he must've learned something from the Edwards "negotiations" last year ;)

Good point. Perhaps having Edwards running around with sirens and lights on his head gave Jack a false sense of security toward Matt.

Perhaps Carl cost Roush so much last year, there wasn't enough left for Matt.

Did he just confirm that Matt will drive a Toyota? ;)

After giving it some thought I'd say that he did. Roush has no like for foreign car manufacturers and I can't imagine what else he could've meant with that dark side comment.

I agree with you and Jack for that matter a 100%. Think that settled it.

Matt Kenseth in the #26 RC Cola/Circle K Dodge in 2013. Book it.

I hope your right Spike, sounds like a good deal, unless your spoofing us. Also according to /Jack R. the dark side could be dodge.

Nascar controls the numbers, yes, but I don't think they take and give numbers randomly. If they did, you can be sure Earnhardt would be in the #8 instead of #88.

They give the team that has used the number most recently quite a bit of leeway in keeping rights to it, a good example is the 3.

How numbers work in NASCAR.

NASCAR owns and assigns the car numbers and licenses them to teams on an annual basis.
• Teams submit to NASCAR requests for car numbers. Depending on availability, that number is issued via an owner's license, which is good for a year. However, one team can allow another team to use the number with NASCAR approval.
• Generally, if a team has used a number, that number is re-issued to the same team. If a team relinquishes a number, it reverts back to NASCAR.

So, if FRM wants the number next year, it's theirs. That's simple enough.

Which would mean they didn't want to use it themselves.

Maybe they want to keep it like others in the past, the 88 for instance, but were made an offer that was too good to refuse. Dollars talk.
