Kenseth?

Yep , according to Jayski . Fourth among active drivers .I'm not a big fan , but the guy is still just a kid.
One of those wins was because he happened to be out front when the race was called because of rain. I just don't think Joey has what it takes. I think Gibbs might think so, too. We'll see next year. Joey is good in a Nationwide car, not s'much in a Cup car.
 
Really ? I'd give him another ten yrs to develope . A lot of great drivers hit their peak in their thirties don't they ?

What sponsor is going to drop 10-15-20 mil a year for ten years waiting for him to develop? You are right about many drivers hitting their peak in their 30's, but they also spent a lot of years in lower series before moving up. Sr, Rusty, Mark had many years invested before they got their chance.
 
The economy hurts Joey as much as any thing, 10 years ago he could have bounced around to another quality ride.
But now there are many good proven drivers that need those fewer slots.


I am more interested in what Joey is doing this year, he has improved but it maybe to late.
I don't think he has the charisma thing either that tips the scales in his favor. If he makes it, it will be a results driven factor like Kenseth has used.



I know it is a performance business but some drivers are more desirable for other reasons. Consider Edwards/Kenseth, Matt had better stats a championship and two Daytona 500s but Carl will get sponsors before Matt will. Logano is more like Matt in the sense that the driving performance is more critical to getting the $.



All the signs aren't good for Logano, other than JGRs stated belief in him, but that will not matter, without a sponser he doesn't race for them. That's racing and even more so in 2012 than ever.

I think that it says a lot more about us as race fans than it does about Joey . We need instant success , instant wins , what have you done for me lately . Back in the day ,we cut drivers a lot more slack . We honored those who achieved ,but we also honored those who tried . We were a lot better fans IMO .
 
I think it's more the sponsors that want the instant reward for their $20 mil investment. It's certainly not the NASCAR that it used to be.

We cut them slack because they WORKED their way up thru to get the good rides.Not handed to them like most today.

At Toyota function, JD Gibbs declined to specifically address if he's talked w/Kenseth. Said he'd like Logano to be at JGR for long time.
 
So..... Kenseth has now stated that his next ride is lined up it's just a question of when the announcement will be made. Makes me think more than ever that it was entirely his decision to leave Roush and not the other way around. I highly doubt that he lost his ride and worked out a multiyear deal in a 24hour period.

Maybe Gibbs starts a 4th car, where Matt takes the 17 to Gibbs and Roush puts Stenhouse in the 6 sponsored full time by Valvoline.

Joey is actually having a really good year, if it wasn't for Gilliland at Michigan, Joey would in the top 12 and the #2 WC, he has 6 top ten's this year, Gordon has 5. I guess it looks like the investment may be paying off for Gibbs, I think he would hate to lose Joey and then see him succeed elsewhere. My prediction would be MWR, I think Mikey wants Clint to be the lead dog. Truex, probably wants to be back in a Chevy. Joey stays in a Toyota, he still gets Gibbs and TRD engines and Napa is solid with Mikey, so he gets a good sponsor, that will be patient.

I'd say Matt likely asked Jack if he could match the deal . After the committment Jack made to Carl , he couldn't match it. Ricky , on the other hand , is young and willing to work cheap.

I can see Treux moving to SHR, if anywhere. I think he's part of that whole Stewart/Earnhardt clique. However, Truex may be a solid contender this year so Waltrip needs to play carefully there. On that note, MWR is in a pretty good position as he's has access to some not too bad drivers right now.

Funny, Kenseth has received more media attention over the last two days than he has over the last two years :eek:

What I find surprising is that Matt is leaving Ford just when they start to really perform. Who's better right now? HMS and SHR.
 
I can't see Truax leaving Napa. Only doing tranny commercials would be more degrading than theres. Michael Waltrip & Truax will do, Billy Mays would have, but Matt Kenseth won't stoop to that level. Truax is very safe at MWR.

I'll put in one last scenerio before I shut her down . Matt is what ? 40 ? He's looking to finish out his career with some good money . Jack is tapped out . He's paying big bucks to Biffle and Edwards , but the sponsors are skimpy . Then there's Home Depot ..they want a top ten guy . Gibbs will pay a top ten salary and Home Depot will add a big time personal services contract .(family guy ,good looking family , trip to Home Depot ), good image. Joey can't be testing well in commercials . Sign up Matt to a five year contract , he'll retire after that , Joey will be all grown up. Matt's mama didn't raise no stupid kids .
