Khane not in 5 next yr

Well, that sucks for those Khane fans out there.

The HMS statement said something like... we'll announce plans for our 4-car team at a later date. Guys on SiriusXM radio are taking that as confirmation that the 5 will run next year. That's not a surprise, but it is good to hear it confirmed. I'm guessing William Byron to the 5.

What do y'all think about HMS hiring Matt Kenseth and Jason Ratcliff for 1-year deal in the 5 car, with the aim of evaluating and upgrading that team... then William Byron to the 5 in 2019? I could see that as a possibility.

Long overdue IMO.

Also IMO Hendrick should stepdown to become a 3 car team, but its financially beneficial to stay at 4. Even if only 3 cars have been competitive for years.

Not seeing the 88 or 5 on track would be weird...

There are not a lot of good seats available atm. I wonder who will consider Kahne as a possible hire?

He has sponsors, just it was time for him to leave HMS.

I'm curious to know how long Johnson plans to keep racing. I hope he still races for a while but what if he and Knaus already have told Rick they plan to retire after '18, and Rick wants to put Byron in that car after another year in Xfinity? I doubt JJ will retire that soon but you never know

Both Knaus and Johnson have signed a 3 year deal with Hendrick. So he'll still be in the #48 at least til 2021.

Well Byron has said he wants to do one more year in Xfinity. Maybe Matt wants one more year before he retires?

Byron not in Cup next year would be a waste. Kids ready now so throw him to the wolves and see how he does. He'll he might win before Chase.

I like that idea. Why push Byron up too soon when there are drivers that would be willing to sign up for a year.

I wouldn't be against it, but if it's what he feels is right for him and his career to do another season it's probably what should be done.

You can't always get what you want. 5 is open and he's available. Would be ignorant to put a veteran in the car for a year only to bring Byron up in 2019. If that's the plan Khane staying another year would have been the best option, not someone who hasn't been in the program.

Byron will not be moved to Cup next season. Obviously that could change, but as of this moment he will not be in the 5.

That's horrible news. Just going to let the kid waste a year in Xfinity. Kid needs to be in the 5. Kahne leaving makes zero sence now to me.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Putting him in the 5 next year would be an extremely easy solution, and solve many headaches. So...... the fact that they're not should speak volumes.

Any ideas of current companies that would like to increase their participation in Nascar (like Aspen Dental did this year) or new companies that would like to associate with Nascar for the first time? From what @Allenbaba has said it isn't that companies are not interested in affiliating with Nascar and its teams more than it is that the dollars involved have to reflect the reality of where Nascar sits in terms of reaching an audience.

I'm just talking about putting the kid in the 5. As you said easy solution and natural progression for the kid who has dominated Trucks and Xfinity the last two years. They must have a plan although I just don't see how Byron isn't it.

Yeah he would do good, but he said himself he wants one more year.

Like I said, Matt could maybe want one more year before retiring, put Matt in the 5 so he gets his final year, and then Byron moves up.

I think Matt wants 5 more years ... but he also wants a good ride. He'd probably take the one year deal and then try to land another deal the next year when maybe more opportunities are available.

That just puts Matt in the same situation he was in this year though, I'm sure he'll want more security than that but who knows anymore with some of these moves.

That could be possible as well.

All I know is I'm going to be sad when all this is over. The days of insert driver to the 5 here are coming to an end.

No, if it's what I said it doesn't put Matt in the same situation. Since what I said has next season being his last with him retiring at the end.
