Khane not in 5 next yr

When he first came to Cup with Dodge, he was originally thought to be In the Yates pipeline. But he has raced for Ford in Cup with RPM
That was pretty short lived too, just the 2010 season, and I don't think Kasey was even in that car the entire season IIRC.

Nope they fired him after the fall Charlotte race because he rightfully complained that he was getting unsafe equipment. Finished out that year at Red Bull where he was going the next year anyway.

I'm just a fan, fan that wants to see Byron in Cup next year not wasting a year in Xfinity.

You keep using that word, "waste"......it's not like they are shipping him off to Bangladesh for a year to grow potatoes. He's getting another year of valuable experience before jumping from Xfinity to Cup. Dude is only 19 years old.

You guys point to Logano as a sign of someone who worked out. Well who did he work out for? Not the team that developed him and rushed him to Cup

Matt will be 46 next March. I see him in the 5 for a one year deal and then retiring, then starting his own team with other retired drivers. he's not very good at the end of a microphone so that pretty much eliminates a tv spot. Oh wait, he's kinda quiet so that would work out better, especially on nbc

Anything is better than Jeff Burton screaming "HE HAD TO DO IT!!!!"

Well I just feel like it would be a waste of talent to just have him run Xfinity again next year. He could run a majority of the Xfinity races while also driving the 5 next year.

Maybe it's not a talent issue, but more of a maturity issue? He's what, 19? Maybe they just don't think he's quite ready for the demands of being a cup driver?

<phone rings>

Tony Stewart answers: What?!
Kasey Kayne: Hey Tony it's Kasey. You still doing that fishing trip next March with Matt & Greg? Got room for another?

Interesting to see where Kahne ends up now..... would like to see him at RCR but think he will end up at the SHR 10 or on dirt.

I could fill a book with second tier series drivers that were thought to be can't miss cup drivers that didn't pan out. I can understand your enthusiasm for wanting to see Byron in cup and one more year in the minors won't hurt him but could help him.

If Kahne can't attract sponsorship at HMS and SHR can't get a sponsor for the 10 what would happen in order to make Kahne to the 10 feasible?

I don't think HMS did the choosing with MM. I believe MM had a 1 year option and he took it.
I do think he was originally signed to a two year deal with an option for a third, but I do think Hendrick could of declined that option. They announced Jahne a year in advance, think they could of with Brad if Brad wanted to spend 2010 in Nationwide

A few unknowns there we don't have privy to. I don't know how options work... who owns it? :idunno:

I cant say really, I cant speak intelligently enough about it. From Twitter it just seems that Tony would like to put Kasey in one of his cars. I dont work in NASCAR so I wish I had a better answer for you.

Saw this coming. Even after the Brickyard win I didn't think he would be back. I see Kahne going to SHR in the 10 or 41

Your answer is fine by me and I appreciate it.

Especially in light of what Dale Jr mentioned in terms of driver salaries. We are witnessing a major conversion in terms of new drivers replacing veterans.
Racing is in the blood, no ride no living. I am surprised that some of the older drivers aren't screaming I can be had for a cheaper price.

Sucks for all the KK fans, but we knew it was coming

I really dont know where he is going to go, but I read that he want's to return to sprint cars, so maybe this could his last year in NASCAR.

What a travesty this "sport" would be if Kahne, Kenseth, and Kurt Busch end up with no rides and Danica does.

PS- It makes absolutely no sense to cut Kahne to put a vet like Kenseth in the 5 for a year. It's gotta be Byron.

I do not want to think about that

I dreaded seeing this news, but it was coming, sooner or later. Byron to the 5. That is the only logical choice. Kenseth in a Chevy, much less a Hendrick Chevy, does not sound right. I can't help but think that some of these veterans WILL find a ride. Especially Kurt. He just won the Daytona 500. He is a past champion. He has been performing better than Kenseth, just has not had the results. I can't see Kahne, now a Brickyard winner, being cut loose from the field either.

I could see Kasey if he doesnt get a ride running the Indy 500

I think the10 goes to the money, like almost everything else in racing.
Regardless of driving abilities I still think Danica draws more sponsorship, and has the #10 for several more years, if she wants it.
Disclaimer :Just my opinion, Dont know any of the parties or inside info.

What do y'all think about HMS hiring Matt Kenseth and Jason Ratcliff for 1-year deal in the 5 car, with the aim of evaluating and upgrading that team... then William Byron to the 5 in 2019? I could see that as a possibility.

They can't field a competitive car with the Toyota aero/HP advantage this year, what would they offer?

People "buying" rides is pathetic. What trust fund baby is going to race the #5 next year?

You could see this coming a mile away. Especially after Indy. RH dodged the question about Kasey's status, and you kind of new what that meant. But in truth change is probably good. The 5 car has been mediocre for a couple of years. Even the win at Indy was a product of circumstances more than Kasey taking it to the front. And when you add to the mediocrity the fact that Great Clips and Farmers Insurance were both pulling their sponsorship, that is something that shouts for change. I could see Kahne maybe taking the 77. Unless Tony just does it for the friendship I just don't see them taking a chance on a guy who hasn't performed for a couple of years. I think Kasey finding a competitive ride might be tougher than we would all figure. Most would rather put a young driver in the seat than a middle of the road veteran. Especially if he doesn't have a big sponsor he can bring along.

Agreed 100%, we've seen change rejuvenate careers before. Example A: Truex, Example B: Logano
