Knockout Qualifying Debut

Apparently FS1 is televising this on a slight delay, so avoid Twitter if you don't want spoilers.

I still can't understand why Allgaier is in cup, but I bet he still makes the race even with half a car.

Do the teams get to know what times the other cars are posting? I'm assuming yes, and if that's the case I would think that cars which have pulled into the pits and aren't planning on going back out would want to change their mind if they see their spot has fallen considerably or they have dropped out of the top 12.

I'm sure timing and scoring has a comprehensive display of lap times, unlike this qualifying broadcast.

All they need is a computer and a wifi connection

Not sure how I feel about this yet, it feels more like a practice session

I'm pretty sure I know how I feel lol.....each to their own but I like traditional qualifying. Don't like the idea of some guys out there doing cool down laps and others on full speed laps.

I like the traditional way as well, but I am willing to give this a chance

I feel like this would be more popular with some slight tweaks. Let teams cool their cars on pit road, so there aren't drivers coasting around the apron. More importantly, get TV to show elapsed time, qualifying times for the top-12, and focus on the session instead of pandering stupid narratives and making bad jokes. Oh, and televise it live instead of stretching five minutes of the session into ten minutes of broadcast with commercials, killing any semblance of flow.

Very disappointing that all of the Hendrick guys but Gordon made the "second half" of qualifying.

I hope it is just a case of being conservative with this new format rather than another year of Alan Gustafson being behind the rest of the team.

This is sufficiently exciting for me. I like it. I was fine with the old way but i believe this'll be just fine.

This type of qualifying will be very interesting at Talladega with the importance of the draft, especially with a 5 minute last session.
