But....but Kurt deserves it more at this point. Martin is an old dude. Time to move on man.
 
The only way this happens is there's a big sponsor that has faith in Kurt. If it happens, it would be great to see him finally reap the full benefits of his turnaround. With a solid HMS backing he would be a real threat for the title.

Also, since this is an additional car being fielded that opens up another solid ride for someone to get. Not too long ago it looked like there weren't many quality options available for free agents but now you have the 29 (probably Newman), 42, and 78 all up for grabs.

Obviously, something has changed, and maybe Stewart was being honest a month ago. I just find it curious that something has presented itself with KuBu that has changed SHR's situation so drastically from a 4th team being off the table to making him an offer.

I'd lose respect for Tony if thsi holds up to be true.

If you want to fire a guy then do it but dont fire a guy and lie to his face giving him some half baked excuse.

Going from Newman to Kurt is most definitely an upgrade but still, this is foul.

Tony has said some nice things about Kurt the pass few years. Back when he won Sonoma last year and the year prior he gave him extra props.

If true I would love to see this. I assume either Kurt must be bringing a sponsor or SHR has been bluffing about their plans. I bet Kurt has a backer and I'm interested to know who
 
I wonder who the sponsor would be? I think Kurt is the best available talent but there still has to be a sponsor.

I have mixed feelings a better deal for a great driver. But I love what he has done in the 78 this year, I like the chemistry and I will miss the combination.

It says in Marty Smith's article that Haas/CNC would sponsor the car.

And I agree, I like what he's done with the Furniture Row guys. I really hope he gets in the chase and can take the small team to the top-10 awards banquet!

It sounded more like the deal with Mark was for next week, not next year.

I like what Kurt's done this year, but this seems like a crappy deal for Newman.

Wow that is a slap in the face to Newman. They had the means to sponsor him after all, but will not.

I dont think Addington would ever want to be reunited with Kurt(understand that isnt the proposal, just saying).
 
Methinks:

With stewart out of the car, quality on the 14 will go down to save money (sponsors maybe spending less as well). Gene saw no point in spending money on underperforming Newman, but can justify Kurt, and now has the money since the 14 is now de-graded.

I'd hate to be newman right now.

My guess what changed is a sponsor. Maybe Monster is ready to go Cup racing?

Just read some other posts with other sponsor rumors.
 
Everyone saying that Tony is screwing over Ryan are forgetting something. The "H" in "SHR". Gene Haas the original and still majority owner(?) of SHR. If this is true this has everything to more with Haas part of SHR than the Stewart part. Seeing as Haas Automation will sponsor the car I am thinking he is the one responsible at going after Kurt. If my hunch is true I wonder if Tony is 100% on board with this. I am wondering if Haas' eyes are getting too big for his stomach.
 
I thin its a bad move to go to four teams @ SHR but if Kurt can get Hendrick under the hood, hes gotta take it while hes still in his prime
 
This might just make me abit of a fan of Newman.

No one deserves to be treated like dirt which is essentially what they did over there. Dumped, lied to and abandoned. Ouch.

Tony fan here, but if he did lie to Newman and didn't just change his mind then that's pretty messed up on his part.

But at the same time it's a great deal for Kurt, hope he doesn't pass it up.
 
I'd love to see Kurt in quality equipment and a fully funded ride again. What he's done with the 78 has been amazing. I think four cars is a lot for SHR to take on but I don't see the Danica experiment lasting past it's 2 year deal and them sustaining four cars after 2014. Think w/ Kurt, Harvick and Stewart that be a fun team to watch and an aggressive one:)
 
What the Sam Hill is Stewart thinking. They had trouble finding sponsors for Newman and Busch can't buy a sponsor.

Is this a merger with FR/DM???

Didn't this happen with Haas way back maybe 10 years ago, didn't he a little big for his britches?

Why wouldn't it work? They are all on the same page when it comes to that, so I would think it would be an even better fit!

I said the same thing about Dale Jr at HMS. only 2 wins and mediocre chases in how many years? It's purely marketing. The same goes for the #10 team.

I'd love to see Kurt dominate in top equipment. As long as the car can stay in one piece. I believe his temper is under control now and he's used it to fuel determination. Kurt 4 SHR!
 
Year one is hardly a failed experiment . Logano is starting to be competative in year five . Take your hate to the Danica thread please.

for some reason this story doesn't really fit. for one I think SHR is still trying to fill in a few races for harvick next year. is tony's car even fully sponsored next year?? is godaddy on danica's car next year?? none of this is known. so on the surface one has to scratch their head and say HAAS for the full season?!?!?!? on a 4th car no less?? the story also says FRR hasn't extended a deal to kurt for next year, let me just call BS on that. maybe the deal isn't formal, who knows but now is the time, well really past time to be signing drivers and sponsors next year.

here is one possiblity I for one think kurt is helping RCR a ton and helping their drivers go faster. but wait he drives for FRR. that is why the alliance has become so close this year. maybe and this is an odd source given the past. maybe harvick is saying dudes kurt has helped us with setups he is another guy that can run fast. if we bring in kurt he can help all of us. further kurt had ran for penske for years before, penske is kinda on its own island. the 2 cars they run are ran with essentially no input from other teams OR organizations. kurt was at his best when roush was 5 teams, maybe this info sharing is helping kurt run better and the other teams too. but wait kurt hasn't won yet is he really running better. if the guy had a decent pit crew and a couple other pieces, he would probably be looking at 3 wins this year. look at the practice sheets every week kurt is at or near the top. he is driving the crap out of that 78 car. another odd thing why in the world am I actually rooting for kurt to do well and get back in a car that can win??? I hated kurt in the past, anyone else feel like this.

He is a shoe in for the 29, not to mention the potential openings of the 42 and 78. Good quality options still available.
