Kurt Busch to SHR?

I said the same thing about Dale Jr at HMS. only 2 wins and mediocre chases in how many years? It's purely marketing. The same goes for the #10 team.

I'd love to see Kurt dominate in top equipment. As long as the car can stay in one piece. I believe his temper is under control now and he's used it to fuel determination. Kurt 4 SHR!

That is the thing. I think the chip on his shoulder is what is keeping him in check now. What happens when he signs with another big team? The little guy under dog media darling story goes out the Window. After that I think we will see the one Kurt Busch.

If this happens, Newman will know he's been bent over royally by Tony and SHR. "We hired Harvick but we're not ready to go to 4 teams. Good bye Ryan".

Folks... there's a very big difference between, "we want four cars, therefor we're hiring Kurt Busch" and "we want Kurt Busch, therefor we need four cars." The former could be interpreted as a slight on Ryan...but the latter has absolutely nothing to do with him - and this is very much a case of the latter. I know it's hard to separate in your minds, but Ryan Newman really shouldn't even be a part of this discussion. The offer to Kurt has nothing to do with him, and it certainly has nothing to do with him "being bent over royally by Tony and SHR." These are business decisions made by business people. This isn't a middle school playground.

err, you're dead wrong. SHR and Tony said they were releasing Newman BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T READY TO GO TO 4 TEAMS.

If this is true, now they are? Newman got bent over. Period. End of story. No other way to look at it. He gets moved out for 2 other drivers and that's the way it is. You can use lots of hair splitting, word parsing, and even throw sugar on it to confuse yourself even more, but Newman got sheet canned and handed a lame excuse for why. If SHR couldn't find a sponsor, say that.

They said what they said, and it is what it is.

Don't get reeled in here. Trying to say it nicely, but it is like having the latest greatest model trolling motor. He doesn't give a flip what happens to Newman, just interested in going around in circles until his battery goes dead.

I like going in circles. Don't we all?

If SHR can add Kurt that would give them a very nice lineup of drivers, if I had to go with 3 from one team, Kurt, Tony and Harv might be as good as it gets.

Go ahead spin away. Really need a

Yeah I don't know who is pulling the strings, Haas, Stewart, whatever. But SHR if this goes down, will notch up the competition. they can use the 10 for a decoy

I'm very curious as to what has gone on behind the scenes at SHR because as recently as earlier this year they said they were behind after the expansion to 3 teams. Now they might go to 4? Hope they don't bite off more than they can chew. The way I see it, having Kurt will only make them faster

Kurt > Ryan
Tony = Owner seeking $$$

So...
Tony's To-Do List for 2013:
1) Fire Ryan and claim that you'd keep him if you could afford a 4th team. Remember, you'd be able to afford said team if Ryan was a better driver.
2) Hire Kurt and claim that you can now afford a 4th team with this better driver. (In progress)
3) ?????
4) Profit.

Nothing personal, just business.

maybe kurt is just usin shr-n-ganassi offers ta get a better 2014 deal from barney visser. ?
i'm thinkin he likes bein biggest fish in little pond at frr......vs little fish/big pond at shr. ?

Apparently Gene Haas offered Kurt the ride without talking to Tony first

SHR will be stronger with Kurt. Dumping Newman might have painful for Tony, but it means he has his bestest friend in the world on his team. As a bonus, Harvick is so grateful I bet Tony gets to grab and squeeze more than ever before.

Well, not to be overly pessimistic, but there's also a chance Tony's injury is more severe than they are admitting publicly. So far almost every bit of public news they've released has been worse than before -- severity, recovery time, etc, etc. Internally they might know that there's a certain % chance that Tony might not be ready for 2014. That's only 6 months away.

Also seems they haven't been totally forthcoming about the full extent of the injury and the damage done. If they had some seriously bad news they were keeping under wraps, they might feel compelled to lock up a top tier driver like Busch before word gets out.

I have zero inside information and I hope Tony is back and 100% healthy for 2014. But this surprise signing of Busch makes a lot more sense if SHR suddenly had an urgent need to sign a top driver. What changed from the time they fired Newman and hired Busch? Tony's accident and serious injury.

agree w/ injury bein more severe than reported............reason he's not comin back this yr.

but they made offer ta kurt....before......tony got hurt.

stilll say he stays w/ frr.......where "his opinion an input is valued" ....as he said today.

This might just make me abit of a fan of Newman.

No one deserves to be treated like dirt which is essentially what they did over there. Dumped, lied to and abandoned. Ouch.
I hope Newman gets in the 29 and kicks every one of their asses.

Could happen. This would be the first time in his career that he would be the guy. He was second banana at both Penske and SHR.

For what it's worth , I think that Kurt needs to stay with Furniture Row and Berrier this year .Going to a new team , (especially a hastliy thrown together one) would be a step backward IMO . Furniture Row did a lot to resurrect Kurt's career , now he needs to give back. Just an old farts opinion. If he goes elsewhere , I think Furniture Row can win with either Montoya or Newman , they have become a really good team.

this is a very interesting thought. you are right in that the injury keeps seeming more severe. lets also not forget how long tony spent in the hospital. If it was just a broken leg normally most people don't even stay in the hospital ONE day. I also wonder how they are saying out for the rest of the season and not even giving a chance of coming back. a couple more things to think about. what was HAAS cnc before tony came?? it was basically a team along the lines of front row motorsports. tony raines and johnny sauter were the drivers. since tony, you have numerous wins and a title. Haas gave away half the team and now actually has a huge dividend on his investment. SOOOO bring in a guy like Kurt along with harvick AND danica with her well funded sponsorship and now you have the makings of something that can go head to head with hendrick. remember its not the cars that make the team its the drivers. a driver can make or break a team. so if you are gene haas kurt probably could be picked up for really CHEAP. they are probably going to pay a guy like harvick an extra 3-4 million a season. kurt probably comes at that much of a discount. the deal could be structured on performance benchmarks that could pay kurt more money if he really does well, if keeps his mouth shut etc. again why am I rooting for kurt??

I would think he needed lots of pins, nuts and bolts to put his leg back together.

That would suck for FRR if Kurt makes the move as expected but everyone pretty much knew this was a 1-year audition for Kurt to make a move to one of the big teams.

There was this kid I grew up with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the street. Things were good, we made the most of it. During Prohibition, we ran molasses into Canada... made a fortune, your father, too. As much as anyone, I loved him and trusted him. Later on he had an idea to build a city out of a desert stop-over for GI's on the way to the West Coast. That kid's name was Moe Greene, and the city he invented was Las Vegas. This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn't even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a bullet through his eye. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn't angry; I knew Moe, I knew he was head-strong, talking loud, saying stupid things. So when he turned up dead, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we've chosen; I didn't ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!

...and Newman got the horse head.

Were you dressed in a green skirt and a white tank top at the Agatha Christie convention?

You know whats funny? I think Kurt would do better if he stayed at FRR. They have been outperforming SHR lately and considering I dont know if SHR is ready for a fourth team, Busch may get dud equitment. Whereas if he stayed at FRR he would likely have seasons even better than this one, because he has had bad luck and is also getting used to a new team. Stay Kurt stay!

And Newman did get screwed but no one ever accused Stewart of being nice, plus Newmans an a**hole himself.

It is still just a rumor. Mark Martin going to the 14 and Tony out for the rest of the season is more than enough in one day for me anyway.
