For the first time in years, I personally heard from hardcore NASCAR fans at the track doing everything they could not to fall asleep or just leave from pure boredom at certain tracks.Yeah but I think with the decline of the automobile in American culture, the ADD generation that wants everything in seconds of sound bites not hours of competition the latest retirements will start to add up.
I firmly believe the at track attendance is declining simply because those of us that loved spending half a week in a tent, bus, camper, or RV like having a nice recliner and 70" curved television better now. I think UNless NASCAR cuts their schedule, and shortens races they face severe reductions in the next decade of attendance and ratings.
The ontrack product is an issue that NASCAR seems to be turning a blind eye to.
More passing, more cars visibly hard to drive, more frustrated drivers willing to use the bumper, etc... makes it fun to watch.
We need a better ontrack product. Scrapping the gen 6 car and scrapping some of the aeropush cookie cutters and adding more short tracks will help, IMO.
The racing needs to be FUN.
