I've had my fair share of complaining but I agree, I think it's a given every week attendance will be down.
 
According to Jayski Martinsville has 55K permanent seats and it has had difficulties getting anywhere near capacity crowds for years now. It is a shame as it is one of the best races on the circuit, IMO.

I don't need to rehash that. He's a car guy and that's cool with me.

On the crowd size - my guess it hit around 60% +/- 5%. That seems to be the
average these days at the majority of races. Not beating a dead horse, but the last
10 years , there has never been a better time to go to a race. I mean ever.
If you were going in 80's and 90's , you knew what it was like being crammed in
the stands tighter than a 5# can of sardines.

I know one thing, I have got to get to Martinsville! Lord,lord,lord, that was goooooood.

Thing is casual fans are not really into short track racing as much as plate races. NASCAR is kinda weird like that though, it's fans have such a variation of tastes. For me I love plate races, short tracks and fast 1.5ers.

Many on here absolutely despise plate races and adore the old short tracks, yet it seems as though the general public cannot get enough of the plates

Bobby is fine in my book and has every right to express his opinion about Nascar whether people like it or not.

I am a short track person myself but these days if the racing is good I like just about everything except plate tracks. Different strokes for different folks and it would be really dull if we all liked and disliked the same things.

This is exactly what I was thinking about writing up when I was at Martinsville yesterday. I paid $55 for my ticket and had a great seat in turn 2. I bought 3 hot dogs yesterday for a total of $6 and brought my own drinks into the race. I got to the speedway about 8:00 and parked for free. I left around 8:00 in the evening. That to me is a pretty good value for your dollar. I would guess a similar NFL or NBA experience would have cost me easily twice as much.

What I am trying to get at is that NASCAR will never be fixed. It is way to big to change. After a decade of endless tinkering it's still not fixed and never will be.

The five stages of grief when a loved one dies are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Obviously NASCAR isn't the same thing but the concept still applies.

It isnt dead yet but we can all see where it's headed. I will enjoy it while I still can.

I recall going to Martinsville in the early eighties and the grandstands were filled. Of course, there were about one-third of seating capacity at that time compared to Martinsville in its hey day. The point being, we saw a fast influx of race fans during the nineties and early two thousand. Those folks have gone off to other venues now and facilities are faced with an overabundance of seating and declining number of ticket holders. The NASCAR gig has come full circle and we are back to where we were in the seventies. Things will level off, grandstands will be removed to create a sense of crowding and be filled again. NASCAR ain't dead.
 
The attendance ia great in the fact that it's easier to get tickets to Martinsville or Bristol now, makes my planning of going to both tracks soon realistic. I remember it was damn near impossible to get Bristol tickets day or night race.

Moto Go is awesome to watch. Those guys have balls of steel, I don't think you could pay me to race one of those bikes. Fun series to watch.

It just shows that when you organize a race and just race that people will come to watch. Over complication can be a disaster

What I do if there is a person or subject I don't care for is just ignore them and/or the subject. I have never put anyone on ignore as I am disciplined enough that it isn't necessary but there is one person I completely ignore and several topics.

There are many longtime Nascar fans that are disenchanted with the series and as far as I am concerned they have every right to speak up about it. They are on good ground as Nascar loses more and more fans each year so they are only echoing what millions believe.

I was a season ticket holder for Bristol night race for over 25 years so I saw the changes from the BIR days to the BMS of today. The night race was always packed and as soon as they would build more seats they would fill up too. We had gone to the race for so long that we learned a really great way to get out of the track so we were not in traffic jams but with less people interested in Nascar getting in and out at some tracks must be a breeze.

There is a lot of risk in just about any kind of motorcycle racing and broken bones and other injuries are just part of it all. I am not knocking Nascar's safety initiatives but to quote Dire Straits what is the worst thing that happens to you? "Maybe get a blister on your little finger, maybe get a blister on your thumb."
 
I can't believe fans aren't coming out in droves for the fake cautions! Clearly, this means we need 10 segments rather than 3. Or perhaps each lap can be each own segment. 500 races in 1!

Not NFL maybe, but tickets to the Washington Nationals games start at $40 depending on the opponent

The price of those are dropping as well, and you better believe I've raised hell over that!

They're cheapening the history of the brand in order to appeal to a consumer that's going to be on to a new fad in a few years..... and by then it will be to late to reverse the damage.
 
I really do not care a whit about the empty seats. I wait for Martinsville and road races. The rest are all fluff. Real racing takes place at Martinsville. Bristol and Richmond run a close second but them I could miss and not feel as if something worthwhile happened. Martinsville, not so much. YMMV.
