More Trouble

Answer me this, why is the Bristol night race one of the best races of the year?

1. It's not. Not anymore since the Race for the Chase and the re-configuration.
2. Thousands of fans miss the Bristol race, every year, because ABC stations elect to pre-empt the race for NFL PREseason.

I've gotten to where I'd rather see the races on cable than broadcast. If ABC7 or FOX5 pre-empts NASCAR, there's no place to watch the race. And FOX5 in DC has pre-empted the Daytona 500 before, back in 2003.

So Andy, you're rational, and you won't tell me to screw off because I have a different opinion than someone. But doesn't it kind of say something that Nascar is getting booted off the tv in some areas for PreSeason football?

There you have it. I can't understand why NASCAR insists on competing with the NFL when they could have most Satyrdays to themselves.

OMG, the track makes the money on SUNDAY. NOT SATURDAY. If you held the race on SATURDAY, ISC would make much less. IE, BRIAN would have a lower bottom line. It's not about ESPN and FOX for BRIAN, that's small taters.

Are you saying that fans wouldn't show up at the track for a NW / Cup double header on Saturday, with a rain day of Sunday rather than during the week?

Dude, you sit through two races on a SATURDAY after driving to the track, you are the man. And I mean that. Have fun sweating all day.

How?

They've ran races on the same day before. It's simple, you close the track after the first race, empty the stands, and only let people in that have tickets for the 2nd race.

It's a win win for everyone, fans get a better experience by watching a race on a day that they dont have to work the next day, so they can drink more beer and have more fun, and the teams get an extra day off.

Real fans will do that ;).

Honestly, how many people go to the nationwide races now? This might actually boost attendance for those races.

Yeah, and BRIAN will just cancel the NW or Truck race to fit your schedule. Great. He will not miss the millions of dollars, right?

For the people who goto the race from long distance, they watch both races. Saturday, and sunday.

They won't sell as many weiners on just Saturday as they would on Sat/Sun.We all know that all the money they make comes from Hot Dog sales.

Ahhh, I forgot about the weiner factor.

Seriously, not many fans show up for just the NW race anyway. Why not move them to Sunday to get some ratings for the cup race, which has the big TV contract.

Cause some people, many people I know, don't want to pay cup money. And, they don't like sitting for 400 miles vs 2o0. Sitting for 400 miles in the blazing hot sun or muggy weather is a lot to ask from a working man that sweats five to six days a week anyhow

Yes and no. We've got to remember that Bristol was always on TNT and ESPN before 2010. Would it have happened if the Night Race was on NBC ten years ago? Hard to say because now we have a package where all the night races (minus Daytona II and Kentucky) are on broadcast.

However, it does say something that NASCAR's now in a position where a race that's pre-empted on national networks for special reports aren't simulcast on cable. The best examples are Charlotte 2001, Texas 2006 and Bristol 2011. Charlotte 2001, moved to TNT last minute because of the war in Afghanistan. Texas 2006, remained on NBC until the conclusion of the event pre-empting, yes, NFL Football. Postrace was not cut, it was shown on CNBC or MSNBC. Bristol 2011, pre-empted on the east coast due to Hurricane Irene. The race was not aired on ESPN2 nationally as an alternative to the tens of millions of people who did not have access to the race.

It's hard to say but I have to agree with you. Networks think it's more valuable to air baseball, basketball, even tennis, over NASCAR.

I disagree. A lot of tracks force you to buy tickets for the Nationwide race in order to get Cup tickets. The seats I'm getting at Richmond, you can only buy them in a tw0 day package.

That's the main reason that I gave up going to Richmond. Except, in my case, they also forced me to buy the IRL weekend in order to keep seats in the tower.

In fact, I think FOX is gonna bail on the NASCAR contract when they find out NASCAR won't settle for less money AND the races being moved to SPEED.

That's what I'm hoping to get, assuming they're still available tomorrow. I NEVER bought tickets off RIR.com when IRL raced there because you had to buy Nationwide and IRL tickets for Cup tickets anywhere. I always scored good seats off scalpers.

WOW, the whole "Cabin Fever Off Season" things really starting to get to some of you!

Good News RACING THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!

Nascar could let themselves be pushed out of Sunday TV to Saturday night . But then... the nfl could start scheduling a few Saturday night games and Nascar would move to Monday night ? No thats taken. Tuesday afternoon ? Taken. Wednesday morning? Taken. ...Leave it where it is .

That's about the silliest thing I ever heard. First off, the NFL abandoned regular Saturday games a long time ago at left it to College football. Second, Sunday is the prime day to broadcast, and the NFL owns it. Why would the winner run off to a lesser day? That makes no sense. NASCAR has spent decades banging their head against the wall trying to beat football head to head, and it's just not going to happen. Football's format is made for commercial TV with built in commercial breaks, and they have a much larger viewer audience.

NASCAR has to stop bowing to networks that try to use stock car racing to water down another networks football audience, then dumping the race when they have a game broadcast. Better to be the big fish in a small pond than limping through every Sunday.

Nascar doesn't HAVE to do anything but please it's fans. Most of us are quite happy to watch racing on Sunday afternoons as opposed to Wednesday morning or whereever Nascar lets themselves get kicked to. I ,for one ,could not watch on weekdays.

Me neither.

I guess I am the man because I've seen me do it. Seven hours of driving, for two races.

Try Cutting 35 lawns under the blazing hot sun for 6 days, then tell me how fun it is to pay big bucks to cook like and egg on the sheet metal.
