More Trouble

Nascar doesn't HAVE to do anything but please it's fans. Most of us are quite happy to watch racing on Sunday afternoons as opposed to Wednesday morning or whereever Nascar lets themselves get kicked to. I ,for one ,could not watch on weekdays.

This is not how you grow a sport, I would bet some nascar fans actually tune out nascar starting in September and turn to NFL. Why not hold those races on saturday when NFL and Nascar fans can watch? It gives more people an opportunity to watch the races, which means more money for Nascar.

Nascar isnt going to run races on a weekday, that would just be stupid. The numbers back it up that running races on a weekday just doesnt make sense, look at the rain delayed races that they run on Monday.

Hell even if you move the races to Saturday, you get a built in rain day on Sunday.

It's a simple 'no win' situation that time of the year as far as competing with the NFL goes. In my case I have no problem watching both the NFL and NASCAR on any Sunday. That's just what the DVR was made for.

IMO a shorter season is the best answer. It's NASCAR overload right now. What season other than golf is nearly as long? Create some demand for the product. ISC & SMI greatly overreacted to the growing interest in the sport not all that long ago and put in as many seats as could possibly fit at most venues. They did this to the point that they overgrew the demand of the average fan. Those of us die-hard fans are still there.

Couldnt have said it better.....

Sounds good, but if it made more money than their current model, we would be there already.

Second, get a DVR, avoid the heart attack.
ON some Sundays last fall I could get in an F1 race, a NASCAR race, a Tigers baseball game, and the Detroit LIONS football game.
Getting a DVR was one of the best decisions I ever made, Direct TV helps too, the free 4 nascar channels. Awesome.
Daughter needs help with homework, pause it.
Boring clip on racehub, FF

Not to mention, I don't have to watch the annoying commercials telling me to call them if I get bit by a dog.

In a perfect universe maybe.

But in the world of greedy billionaires, we got what we got.

I'd like to see someone come up with Real Statistics on how many "Crossover" fans there really are? I personaly don't know anyone who stress over wether there going to the race that Sunday or attending a football game? I do know a few who tape football games however.

Me, I always tape the race and watch it later. Not because I a bigger NFL fan. It's simply because they never show you an update about the race while watching football but they always give you NFL updates during the race.

I have a DVR and have Direct TV, i have a hard time watcing any sporting event on DVR. Once i know the outcome of the game or race, it kind of loses its luster to me. With all of the social media and everything nowadays, its hard to avoid finding out the score or the winner before going back and watching it.

You and I don't agree, the thread is about "more trouble" for Nascar, i've tried to lay out what i think the problems are and how i think they can fix it.

You've been attacking me for having a different opinion than you. I'm tired of going round and round with you when its pretty clear the numbers have fallen off in both ratings and in the stands the last couple of years. There is a problem and I hope Nascar finds a way to turn the sport around.

I'm an old time NC fan, so yes i have some bitterness in my mouth because Nascar took North Wilkesboro and Rockingham away from me. I've worked in the sport and have heard first hand how dirty of an organization the governing body is. Nascar's biggest problem is the governing body.

MOEJOE:

And as far as social media goes, I turn all off before I watch sports.

If you say so, I still believe it's incredibly stupid to attempt to compete with the NFL for viewers.

You don't get it, BRIAN doesn't own FOX or ESPN. He owns race tracks, and sells space to vendors for days, not one day.

Im really on your side, but what you think is a good idea, brian does not. So, it's not gonna happen. A model of more money has to be on the table first. Going for this plan to please the fans is great in your mind, you're a fan. Put yourself in Brians greedy shoes. He makes tons of money right now. Even with the ticket sales being down. NASCAR is not in danger of going bankrupt or being sold, so I don't see how its all bad myself. You paint this picture of doom and gloom like the sky is falling and NASCAR won't be here next year if we don't make serious changes to the format. Go fly a kite and chill out dude. It's not going anywhere.

In the business world you have to do forecasting to plan the future of your business, when your sales numbers start to fall then most businesses try to find any way possible to turn those numbers positive.

Nascar didn't grow as a sport because of Brian France, it grew to a national sport because of his grandfather and father. I don't think Brian is a good business person, IMO he's made decisions that have turned fans away. He needs to find a way to pull more people to the sport.

Good business men or wormen are never happy with the status quo, what they want to do is to grow their business, that's not what Nascar is doing right now. For example of businesses that continued with the status quo, look at Sears, they failed to adapt to the times and are not nearly what they used to be.

Nascar has got to find a way to adapt to the times.

I have been a race fan for over 50 years. My Pops took me to my first race, at ASCOT in Gardena, when I was 8 and I am 60 now. I attended my first NASCAR Race at Riverside Raceway in 1967. I have watched the sport grow and prosper and recede. I think that y'all give the France family too much credit and too much blame.

The sport grew to a multi-billion dollar venture because people started watching and attending races and because drivers like Jeff Gordon helped to make the sport more interesting to folks outside the southeast. Yes, Big Bill was a marketing genius and a visionary - but he most certainly did not single-handedly create the sport.

Despite whatever nasty back-room dealings that that little ferret Brian has presided over, the fact remains that every Sunday, brave guys (and gals) still run souped-up racecars as fast as they will go (ceptin' for plate races, of course :moon:) for bragging rights and money. And they still have an opportunity to kiss the trophy queen if they are fortunate enough to win. That's racing!

Screw the NFL. I don't watch football if there is racing to watch! And by racing, I mean NA$$CAR, ARCA, IZOD, F1, NHRA, etc.
