Morgan Shepherd - Too old to be behind the wheel of a Cup car?

Now we have proof that drivers aren't athletes, and young drivers have been locked out of the cup series.

Damn you, Morgan Shepard!

I am bothered more by past championship provisionals, buying team numbers for the previous years points provisional etc.

The path toward running in cup is a twisted road you just cant show up at camp and run the fastest 40. It takes a ton of resources just to audition to race.
That bothers me more than Shepard himself, and I cant fault him for pursuing all opportunities. I prefer him to the likes of a Steven Wallace and I thinker he is safer than Wallace too.

.
Same here, Greg. DW's use of the provisional grew to be an embarrassment for the sport.

Oh, Matt --- I mowed for another hour this morning, picked up the limbs that I cut up yesterday, hauled the trash out to the road for pickup, and power washed the underside of the mower deck.

Tell me again how I'm too old to drive. ROTFLMAO

That's awesome. I didn't even realize you were Mexican-American. ;)

i like what you said here. buying the points is really a crock, the champion's provisional really doesn't effect me, unless it go back to working like it did with DW. and the other thing, TRL, any chance you could come by one weekend, i believe you could get me caught up on anything to do here at home.

Every time he does this we have the same debate, he is then 10 mph off the pace in practice but makes the field because only 43 cars show up, then he is parked by lap 50. Saying he is still racing isn't really the best thing to call it.

most accurate post i read ! ha!

Age doesn't really matter but the fact that Morgan is slower than hell means he needs to just effing retire.

Kinda funny the support Morgan gets but many here would like to see Danica out of her ride for not producing.

Since turning 60 MS has averaged a 41st place finish. Get some new blood in the sport. It's great and all that he can drive a race car but wouldn't any of you like to see a new driver get a chance behind the wheel?

Morgan doesn't have a full-time ride in Top 10-15 equipment.

That #33 is a dead-end ride. The only occasions it has speed are when RCR throws money at it for someone like Austin Dillon or Brian Scott to drive it, otherwise under Circle Sport it's pretty much a field-filler. We saw how well being in a crapwagon worked for Kligerman's career and we're still seeing it with Bowman and Truex in the BK cars. If I were a young driver with an inkling of a shot at a Cup career I'd probably stay away from that thing.

I say make Kyle, Brad, Kevin and Matt share that ride. Let Morgan go fight crime.

I have yet to see Morgan do anything dumb on the track, nor have I heard any drivers complaining about him. I hope he is still racing when he is 80, its obvious that racing is his life and the young folks should find something else to complain about IMO

They've been talking about this for a while today on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. 72 yo Morgan Shepherd is going to be behind the wheel of the #33 this weekend. When's enough enough? Why can't they put someone behind the wheel that is trying to work their way into this sport as a driver? Sure, Morgan Shepherd can still drive in circles but there are plenty of others that can too. They'll get their money's worth for the sponsor, I guess. At the same time it kinda makes our NASCAR Drivers Are Athletes argument a little harder to convey. Morgan, I think it's time to retire.

Old dudes cant be athletic ???? Please tell me more

Call me crazy but I don't see Morgan being very competitive. He'll very likely start and park.

If 70+ year olds can drive in NASCAR though, I'd like to see Richard Petty make good on his bet that he could beat Danica Patrick in a race.
hell, Ricky can't beat her lately;)

Watch a truck race sometime................ at least 5 of em are 10-15 mph off the pace, one of em has red hair and boobs but its ok cause she aint old yet

Thats cause funding sucks in that series, no one running cup should be that far off the pace.

Nope, not this guy. I support Danica too and hope she improves and keeps her ride for a long time.

I gotta say, I'm not surprised that this thread exists, but I am surprised that you were the one that made it, dpk. It's not like you to make a negative thread like this. (I'm being serious, not trying to be a smart aleck.)

Obviously I'm all for new blood coming into the sport. I think pretty much everyone on this forum feels that way. We don't own the 33 car, though, so there's really no point in protesting the fact that Morgan Shepherd is driving it this week. And like FL said, that car ain't nothin' special. If Morgan wasn't behind the wheel, it'd probably be some other field filler. How much difference does it really make in the end?

Is just embarrassing for the series. Not a good look when trying to build up the fan base , improve credibilty, improve the demographic and market itself as a premier sporting entity.

I think you and a few others are giving little ol' Morgan Shepherd too much credit. Now he's this dark stain on the series that is single-handedly embarrassing NASCAR, driving away fans, and undermining NASCAR's credibility? LOL.

That up and coming young gun Timmy Hill was 9 mph off the pace, and I don't see anyone complaining about him. Same for Mike Bliss, and he's 8 mph off. Why? Because they're not as old as Morgan? There are slow/start and park teams that show up every week. What difference does it make who drives for them? They'll all be in the garage by lap 30 or be riding around two laps down by then anyway.

I think this is much ado about nothing.

None of the drivers I have seen seem embarrassed, me thinks they have learned to put the old guy out of their thoughts, some may have resorted to taking medication in order to cope with this situation. I will still go to the races but have forbidden my family from talking about Morgan while we are there

But Timmy is a cute little bugger and has a mother that loves him
