We have an under rated thread...what about over rated?

For my part its Dillon. A lot of hype not much in terms of results.

I do not think Patrick belongs in the over rated category. I do not think anyone thought she was gonna come into NASCAR and set the world on fire.

But perhaps you all disagree. What do you think?

Joey.. when he first came in... right now Im going to say probably Denny Hamlin? Maybe ... dare I say it.... Dale Earnhardt Jr

Dillon is actually doing better than I expected him to at first. I don't expect too much out of him but as far as what I thought he would do Ive been impressed so far so I wouldn't put him in this category.

I really like dale jr...but I think he will walk in shadow of the legend of his father...

I'm going to shock the universe and go with one of my favorites. Kyle Busch. Stay with me. There is so much crap about how talented he is which sets up an unrealistic expectation that he should dominate and win championships year in and year out. As a result, when he doesn't, something is wrong with the car, team, or he is a choker. His performance is consistent with many drivers who don't take the **** he does (i.e. Delana's wife). However, since he takes that ****, I would suggest that he is rated beyond the reality of his potential at this moment. Don't get me wrong....I would be happy to see Kyle go for a 10 year championship run--some might assert that this is possible--my definition of overrated.

Jeff Gordon, thats another ho hum I will settle for 2nd over rated driver :)

Name recognition plays a role. Dale Jr could have a year of DNFs in half the races and 30th in rest and he'd secure a ride

Dale Jr, and it ain't close.

Kasey Kahne gets 4 wins in 2+ years at HMS and people are calling for his head. Junior has 3 wins in 6+ years at HMS and nobody seems to have a problem. Sure, he has two Daytona 500 wins, but so does Michael Waltrip.
But Dale wins most popular driver every year. Plus he sells a ton of hats, jackets and shirts. When's the last (or first) time you've seen someone with a Kasey Kahne shirt on?

I think this is the definition of over rated.

So to you the more important thing when it comes to bring a good driver is how many t shirts you sell? Come on.
Well, based on popularity, the majority of fans do not feel that Jr. is overrated. If they did, nobody would buy 88 gear. Which is simply not the case.
It's ok for someone to have an opinion that differs from yours. ;)

Yes, you're right. Everyone has their own opinion. Mine is that the majority of Dale's fans have not been attained from on track actions.

The guy with more Top 5s than anyone at this point in the season, who scored more points than everyone except Jimmie Johnson over the final nine races of last year's Chase, who a large number of people love to bash, is overrated.

lol

Thought about this...there are some jr fans that might .cheer for him bc of his dad. Some of those fans might feel he wont win a championship but cheer nonetheless. A driver can be popular and over rated.

No questioning his popularity, but from a pure talent standpoint I think he's very overrated. If he was anyone other than Dale Jr., Hendrick probably would have cut him loose after 2010. His stats those first three years at HMS weren't all that different than those of Casey Mears, Brian Vickers, Joe Nemechek, and Jerry Nadeau when they were at HMS. And none of those drivers lasted beyond 3 years with Hendrick.
