Most over rated?

I did not create this to bash ... I don't feel good about this
Thought thread would be a place for us to put our opinions

Dale Jr hands down. I hate him @ HMS. I wish someone with talent, instead of a merchandise seller, was in that car.

No questioning his popularity, but from a pure talent standpoint I think he's very overrated. If he was anyone other than Dale Jr., Hendrick probably would have cut him loose after 2010. His stats those first three years at HMS weren't all that different than those of Casey Mears, Brian Vickers, Joe Nemechek, and Jerry Nadeau when they were at HMS. And none of those drivers lasted beyond 3 years with Hendrick.

Well....he's not wrong. I mean if Dale didn't have the Earnhardt name, would he even be with HMS right now, or would he be with some S&P team?

I don't really think any of em are overrated. Nobody thinks Danica is actually good, so she's out. Jr isn't a terrible driver and has a shot at winning championships. Nobody thinks jr can wheel a car quite as good as let's say, Kurt busch, even his fans, so overrated? Nah.

It doesn't matter if a body thinks JJ is overrated because he's performed. If he hadn't performed, there might be an argument.

Maybe all these people are being overrated by casual fans and/or overzealous fanboys/girls? Most on here seem to know what's what.

That being said, Jeff Gordon is the greatest Nascar driver of all time and not overrated! :D

But Dale wins most popular driver every year. Plus he sells a ton of hats, jackets and shirts. When's the last (or first) time you've seen someone with a Kasey Kahne shirt on?
I wear my kahne shirt every weekend, plus I see plenty of kahne fans at the races too.

Greg Biffle.

He's not a championship-calibur driver and never was. And now he's on the downstroke of his career. Edwards or one of the Penske cars are the blue oval's only hope for a championship currently.

All time most overrated driver award has to go to Mikey hands down. That guy bull****ed his way thru his entire career.

Biffle had one really good year, 2005. Outside of that, he's just been kind of mediocre.

Any driver whose fans claim him or her to be the best without any stats or results to back it up are overrating that driver.

IMO, the fact that I'm a fan of any certain driver in no way makes that the driver the best nor does simply saying that they're the best over and over and over and .....

I think this is suppsed to be an overall thing lol no one would say their own driver... well I did... referring to the first few years of his career but I think most fans over rate their own driver... I would think it's rare for a driver live up to the expectations of their fans... we all want our driver to win every week. That's the spirit of competition. It's what makes it fun.

Many of the drivers can win in any given week but it's flat out delusional to expect them to win every week.

Hence the blame games and temper tantrums.

Don't you find it odd that some fans seems to take a non-win much worse than the person who is actually driving the race car?

I enjoy seeing Junior fail as much as the next guy, but to say he's overrated is absurd. 20 wins, which is good enough for 27th in the all time wins list, and finished top 12 in points in 9 of his 14 year career. Not to mention he currently sits 4th. If you saw those stats without a name attached, would you still say overrated? I doubt it.

20 wins over 15 seasons and only three of those since 2006.....meh. Kenseth started at the same time and has accomplished a lot more.

>Jimmie Johnson
>Won Six Championships
>Overrated

You used that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

Johnsons ability is over rated, his teams ability isnt. JJ bores me and makes me sleepy

Once again, you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means. I mean surely you must realize that while Chad is a great Crew Chief, he's nothing without a great driver. I mean do you honestly think Danica Patrick can win six championship in Johnson's ride?

I think Johnsons ability is over rated, I cant help it I just do. The dude cant even put on a decent show in a Nationwide car, he is boring and vanilla. I dont care if he has a hundred championships, if they all drove like him I wouldnt be watching Nascar

Labonte Brothers, Buddy Baker, Harvick, Parsons, comparable numbers. I don't think anyone would say they were/are overrated in their time. Kenseth doesn't matter. Nobody is saying Junior is the best.

Drivers that can do stuff like this twice in the same race and still win are not over rated

So because he's not a "Good ol' boy" who's a hot head, he's overrated...it has nothing to do with his on track performance.

Ooookay then.

Umm...the Labonte brothers won three championships between them. Not sure how that's similar to Junior...

Wins, huh? Kenseth has more of them than any of those others drivers you mentioned so in my opinion, your opinion doesn't matter.

The funny thing is he is a Truck series and Nationwide series Champion and I believe he won ROY in both series as well... while Jimmi has one 1 in both of those series.. Jimmi should thank his lucky stars to have Chad and the 48 team, if he was in a Roush ride he'd probably be on par with Stenhouse

Yea....you don't get 32 poles, 277 Top 10s, 66 wins and 6 Championship by being mediocre at your job. I love how all the haters go on and on about how if it wasn't for Chad and the 48 team, Johnson would be a mid-packer, totally diminishing Johnson's own contribution to the team. Johnson drives one of the looses car on the Sprint Cup circuit, which is what gives him his speed, the looser the car, the more fine motor skill and faster reaction time you'll need to control the car. I don't see Chad or anyone else racing the tires off of the very loose 48.

I don't know that I would call any driver "over-rated" ---- there are a number of drivers who are, in my opinion,
under-achievers or under-performing.
Not one driver out there would be on the track if they didn't have better-than-average skills.
