Most over rated?

I don't know that I would call any driver "over-rated" ---- there are a number of drivers who are, in my opinion,
under-achievers or under-performing.
Not one driver out there would be on the track if they didn't have better-than-average skills.

Or if they bring in a lot of money, either through sponsorship or through merchandises.

Johnson drives one of the looses car on the Sprint Cup circuit, which is what gives him his speed, the looser the car, the more fine motor skill and faster reaction time you'll need to control the car. I don't see Chad or anyone else racing the tires off of the very loose 48.
So where you an avid Johnson fan when he had an average finish of 18th before he got into the 48 or like the other 99% of his fans who jumped on the bandwagon.. I don't recall any JJ fans ranting about his epic abilities when he was with Herzog

Wins, huh? Kenseth has more of them than any of those others drivers you mentioned so in my opinion, your opinion doesn't matter.

Do you not understand the thread title? It's about a driver being overrated, not if he's the best driver out there. Your post would make sense had I said that Jr was the best driver in NASCAR.

HJM debuted in 2000 as Herzog Motorsports with SODA and American Speed Association driver Jimmie Johnson, who had previously worked with them in SODA. Sponsored by wireless company Alltel, Johnson would finish 10th in the points and place third in the 2000 Rookie of the Year points, behind Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick. ... After Alltel left for Penske Racing, Johnson remained with the team for 2001, sponsored by Excedrin. Johnson gave the team its first ever win at the inaugural race at Chicagoland Speedway.

While Johnson didn't set the world on fire in the Busch series, he wasn't exactly Danica Patrick level of suckiness in terms of racing. He also won
Six off-road racing championships and 1998 ASA National Tour Rookie of the Year.
.

Why don't we get TRL to create all things related to jr. Thread. That way you'll have all the over rated posters on one thread.

And that's my opinion!!!

only 43 drivers start cup race every week ....outa 1,000's in entire usa.....
pretty strict rating process...by owners.... puttin up tha $$ !!
good enuff for me.

Jimmie Johnson back then was a lot like Kyle Larson now. The casual fans didn't really know about him until he burst onto the cup scene, but drivers and crew chiefs were raving about Jimmie when Hendrick signed him to drive the 48. And a lot like larson, they both only had 1 nationwide win with a lesser team. I don't think Jimmie is the best driver in the sport, but he is top 5 without a doubt. The only drivers I would rank ahead of him are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Smoke, and Larson. But even if he isn't the most talented he has 6 titles so that is what matters.

People in the garage were raving about how good he was before Hendrick put him in the 48. Only to us fans was he an unknown

Dude...he is the best modern driver in the sport right now. The Busch Brother, Smoke and Larson can't touch him. Kurt jumps from team to team too damn often, Kyle still has to work on his maturity level, I don't think Smoke is going to be the same after his leg injury and Larson is still a rookie, waaaaaaay too early to tell if he's going to be in contention for a championship.

Can't even touch him? No one else could do what Kurt did in the 78 last year. And everyone in the sport says kyle busch is the most talented driver. And larson is the next jj, so might as well warm up to the kid :salute:

Jimmie Johnson

Hey you know I'm a huge Kyle fan but let's not get crazy here. JJ has 6 titles man. Yea I know he's got the best team and crew chief but he's got to have a lot of talent and is a huge part of getting the 48 so many wins over the last 6 years.. Underrated maybe?

Maybe we figure out how to rate a driver. How about on merit instead of hype? When you go from there, you start with Jimmie and work down. Done. You don't rate potential. When you go from a merit perspective Chase Elliot is the most overrated driver by a lot. Two NNS wins, and many if not most want him in Cup. SMDH.

Any driver whose fans claim him or her to be the best without any stats or results to back it up are overrating that driver.

IMO, the fact that I'm a fan of any certain driver in no way makes that the driver the best nor does simply saying that they're the best over and over and over and .....

YES.

2 wins in 7 starts, mind you. Multiple wins and championships in lesser series. He's definitely more promising than Austin Dillon, whom I would consider to be the most overrated "rookie-ish" driver.

I don't really find anybody to be too overrated. Drivers generally seem to get their due when they win races and perform well. Over-hyping is a different story. No doubt the obsession with Dale Jr, Danica Patrick, etc. is unwarranted if you take into account their racing performance alone. Granted, Dale Jr. is a lot better than Danica, but his huge fan base would have you believe he was the greatest NASCAR driver of all time, when he's above average at best.

As a side note: I always feel odd criticizing professional athletes, as even the crappiest professional has abilities I could never dream of possessing.

Who gives a ****? Many people, like me, really only watch the cup series & the occasional Busch series race. When a driver comes to cup & puts up results like JJ did his rookie year it was hard NOT to be a fan of his. The guy can flat out race. He came to the cup series, impressed the hell outta some people & gained fans. Is that a crime? Are we really gonna get into the "you're not a real ran" bull rap? Being a JJ does not mean you're a bandwagoner. It means you picked the right guy to follow.

You are silent Kyle 18.....Rev locks doors and tells wife that maybe we should shut off the lights for a little while while we listen for strange sounds outside.

Good plan, I am within driving distance you know :D
I read your post carefully and while I may not agree 100 percent you didnt butcher Kyle to badly. I will recover, our friendship is solid

He'd no doubt be singin a different tune if his favorite had that level of success. Not everybody follows drivers from when they are 5 years old lol

I understand the the thread titile. I misunderstood you post  My apologies.

The problem with a thread like this is that we are all biased. We all see particular drivers as "over-whatever" and our fav drivers as "under-whatever" --- fill in the blank with '-hyped', '-rated', '-appreciated', or whatever word you choose.

We all get defensive if we think our driver is being slighted. I appreciate talent on the track. Not one driver, no matter how much money Daddy/sponsor put up, would be out there for very long if they didn't have some talent. Now, before anyone throws up John Wes Townley, I know he still races --- and Paul Menard is doing better --- I know Dad's money bought them the ride.

Bottom line --- this subject will NEVER, EVER be agreed upon. Keep a cool head and a light touch on the keyboard. No need to start a flame war just because we're bored with no race this weekend.

You're absolutely right. I hadn't thought about until you pointed it out.
Under-appreciated. That's what Kyle Busch is; under-appreciated.
:D

Whew. My bottom line.....Win championships, justify the hype, and render the current perceptions as underrated instead of overrated. Shock the world! Win 8 of 'em!
