nascar ended up with a corrupt race

I'm ok with the penalties MWR got and as far as I'm concerned it's getting blown way out of proportion. Yes I would have like to see Bowyer hit with a real penalty, but he wasn't so it it what it is.

I have to wonder if the people that are celebrating the possibility of sponsors pulling their money and wanting MW banned from nascar because of this, ever heard of guys like Smokey Yunick who was was famous finding creative ways to skirt the nascar rule book, among other things.
Smokey is a celebrated legend of the sport, but these days he'd probably be getting death threats for the things he did back in the day.

It's hard enough for nascar to fill the field with cars to race these days without some rabid fans wanting to drive a competitive team out of the sport because they were caught trying to trick a team car into the chase.

With the backing of 5 hour or Napa, another team would step up and fill the starting spots for MWR, as well as the jobs from people being laid off if they are.

If a baseball team (remember the "black sox scandal?) or football team was caught doing something similar, there would be hell to pay for it. Maybe sitting a team out for a season is the right thing to do here?

I'd just like to add that there are a lot of honest and hardworking people that work for MWR that could end up being the biggest losers here.

The drivers, and owners have already made their millions, but there's pit crew guys, body guys, engineers, floor sweepers that pour their heart and soul into that team. Those people had nothing to do with this fiasco, and if they're out of work then it will be a travesty.

Just like anything else in life it's the poor who suffer the most, the people on the bottom of the totem pole who will be punished the worst.

That would result in arguments about what constitutes an MWR thread, and another argument in another thread that referenced an MWR thread should count, and yada yada yada. :D

Then there's the problem of people adding new ones while you're counting, and you have to start all over again. What a dilemma. Like Bowyer at Chicago, we'll never finish.

Fox Sports just had a breaking news flash on TV and their twitter saying something more may by announced during Race Hub at 4:30 pm about cheating at Richmond. No idea what they are hyping. We'll see.

Bowyer's non-admission apology tour at ESPN yesterday seems to have made the situation worse. Too much winking and smirking. And the stick and ball analysts don't understand motorsports so the only analogy they could make was to steroids and PEDs. So to them it seemed like Bowyer was winking and smirking about taking steroids. Which is stupid, but ESPN and FoxSports and all the mainstream sports outlets had people who've never watched a race opining about what Nascar *must* do to regain credibility. Cause it's so terrible to lose credibility in the eyes of people who never had any interest in Nascar or any form of motorsports.

FOX Sports has exclusively learned of improper communications that helped Joey Logano earn final spot in Chase.

It's probably just the #2 slowing a little, which is no big deal.

Or was there a second organization on that grassy knoll along with MWR?

Fox Sports reporting that Nascar is investigating Gilliland and Logano for improper communication during Richmond race.

Fox saying Gilliland and Logano conspired together. Ford helping ford.

everyone needs to quit with the put jeff gordan in the chase. look the fact is in order to do that the results of the race must be changed. Nascar isn't going to do that NOR should they. do you guys seriously think we should start changing the outcome of events after the fact?? I don't the end of the race needs to be the end of the race. The penalty nascar did was appropriate and the right thing to do. it also has the side effect of putting the most harmed driver into the chase. but it stopped well short of altering the outcome of the race or changing finish positions on the race track. This is the right thing to do.

further I am starting to feel terrible for MWR, what we had was a perfect storm. I have to ask what other organization in the garage if in the same situation would not have done what they did??? I think they did what just about any other team would have done if they had savvy people paying attention to the race folding out. The problem was is it was too obvious. It was too over the top. The vickers radio was the smoking gun. when you combine it with the spin and what it did to others it was too much. did MWR at the time understand the ramifications at the time all this was happening to fellow competitors?? I say no. noone did this was happening on the fly.

ok back to MWR. THIS DEAL IS PUTTING THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION AT RISK OF GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. Its not funny anymore. I think they have the major sponsors signed on for next year but I am sure they are probably putting together associate deals for next year as well. They are going have a hard time getting these fill in sponsors signed for next year because of this. Next I don't care who you are I think MWR is an organization that deserves a whole lot of credit in where they were when they started verses where they are now. They have built the organization into a top 3 or 4 nascar team, all from mikey running and dale jarrett running those aweful 55 and 44 cars the first year. anyone remember how much those cars sucked?? The first toyota engines were horrible. That is what they started out with. Now we are talking chase contenders and race winning cars. Step back for a moment and look at the success and hard work they have done. The forumla has been really savy media and PR work in the past. if you notice MWR IMO works harder at promoting their cars in unique ways than anyone else. Its the things that go beyond just having a sponsor on the car that MWR does that offers value to them. if you watch closely its easy to see. This stuff is hard work and they are good at promoting in ways you don't think about or notice. its time to move on from this. get off these people's back. Mikey is a visible personality, he may not be liked by everyone but he is just trying to keep his race teams going. Thats why you see him so often, remember its the promoting in other ways mentality.
Since when do you give directions on what forum members say. I guess you thought it was funny when MWR pulled the shsenaigans

So you called your first post stupid before I did. Guess you beat me to the punch.

If you want to call it stupid, knock yourself out. Pretty sure others understood it just fine.

It depends on how far Gilly went, but didn't Logano beat Gordon by 2 points?

1 But if they are only investigating the Gillaland thing now he still would be in via the tie breaker so Gordon still get screwed. lol

If this turns out to be something, the good standing relationship between Rick and Roger might end.

I remember when Roger wore a Hendrick hat when they won the Daytona 500 a few years back.

Well the way Fox worded it, doesn't sound like it is anything Joey gained on track, but how him and Gilliland communicated.

Yeah they just want you to tune in so the Fox Sport 1 channel gets good rating so they can shut Standonit about poor ratings. :D

:XXROFL:

Arrow without feathers Gilliland.

I think Stewart referred to his teammate as a dart without feathers after Ragans first Martinsville race. Not one of Roush's smartest decisions, IMO.

Oh yeah it was a dart, not arrow.

I always thought it was David Gilliland. He was always getting into Tony's way. lol

Wow, all kinds of shady dealings coming to the surface...

If there's one benefit to all of this, it's that its making the Chase look like a complete and utter farce. Maybe after all the heartache it's caused them the last few days, NASCAR will consider doing away with the damn thing.
