NASCAR media members--good and bad

Theres so many of them i am curious, which media members do you like or dislike?

The ones I like personally are

Jeff Gluck- Though sometimes he can whine a bit too much. His rant about Tony Kornheiser getting special treatment at Richmond a few years back was really really cringe worthy

Marty Smith- His Eric Church name dropping and his "Im a country boy " schtick gets old but the drivers open up to him very easily so you get great information



Dislike-
Bob Pockrass- He gives good information but his questions suck

Jim Utter- Complete ass hat

Jenna Fryer- Shes awful and Im not sure how anyone can take her seriously when she plays favorites. Jimmie Johnson has talked at her daughters school multiple times (she arranged it), she openly flirted with Denny hamlin awhile back (5 years ago ish), and her photo cover on twitter is very unprofessional for someone who isnt suppose to have favorites

Utter is one of my favorites.
 
Some of the best motorsport reporters imo are:
Danielle Trotta, Shannon Spake, Kim Coon, Nicole Briscoe, Jamie Little, Jenna Fryer, Kaitlyn Vincie, Krista Voda,. Lara Alvarez, Leeann Tweeden, April Rose, Georgie Thompson, Ines Sainz, Jill Arrington, Erin Bates, Lindsay Czarniak, Charissa Thompson

The only people I am familiar with are the guys in the booth plus Michael Waltrip and Chris Myers but IDK if Myers still does Nascar.

If you consider the NASCAR Radio personalities as journalist, I will need my friend @dpkimmel2001 to queue the Hoda pic before I respond. :D
 
The one that I can't seem to get a read on is Claire B.

She seems like more of a reporter than anything else. I never hear her breaking down the sport or discussing intricacies, it's strictly feeding news to the fans. And not in the most tight knit fashion, it's very much all over the place listening to her.

I agree. She has some pieces that are very good, and then we do the sponsored stuff, and it seems contrived. I mean, "Chasing History"? Really? How about "Chasing" a first win?
 
Pockrass asks two kinds of questions. One type to elicit an answer--Rare. One type to elicit a response--Common. He knows his game, and so do the drivers IMO. Not on the Busch Christmas card list.

Honestly, I kind of like Tom Jensen. I frequently disagree with him, but his stuff is well thought out, and he is consistent.
 
I like the sound of Claire B's voice. Its really one of the best in radio imo.
Her " deadline room " after a race is really good. Drivers seem to like talking to her.
Easy listening , and that's what I need every now and then.

She is one that has a bad habit though of overusing the "what does this mean...." question.

Reporters are suppose to be professional and not play favorites

If there friends how can we expect jenna to give a honest opinion on danica
 
Whatever software company they just hired to operate the position ticker needs to get their **** together

Bob Pockrass is legitimately a great guy. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet in your life. Same with Dustin Long and Jeff Gluck. One thing I enjoy about those three is how they constantly interact with fans, on social media and at the track.

I follow most of those on twitter. I really don't expect any of them to act right. I get upset with some and unfollow until I think I can handle their tripe again, as long as I can get information. That is what they are for.. information.

I have not found any fault with Claire B.

No one has mentioned Lee Spencer. I think she does a good job giving information during a race. I have seen where there are people, has not come up here, but at other places it appears she is disliked. I don't know why.

She's came up with rumors that ended up being totally unfactually true.

He is a country boy. As country as it gets. Marty is from about 45 minutes from me. His high school and mine are arch rivals. I thought it was pretty cool for a guy from Giles county Virginia to cover the Indy 500. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Marty.

Shame on you. You forgot Monica Palumbo. She was at Charlotte interviewing people for MRN. I guess it's a full time gig.
 
Absolute favorite is Dave Moody. I was lukewarm when I started listening to him, but now I think he not only has the best show on the channel, but the best in all of radio.

I have one strongly disliked. I can't listen to Claire B. Her questions are pedestrian at best "How does the win feel?", "You have to be happy to win?" And others along the line. The other thing that drives me nuts is on her post race show with Brad Gillie she describes every little thing she's doing and seeing. "I'm walking 20 feet to see so and so and he's drinking a Gatorade in victory lane. Now I've walked past so and so and doing this and that."

Moody is a NASCAR sheep but you definitely nailed it with Claire B.

That is putting it kindly. Moody is far to infatuated with himself, and his screaming when calling a race is intolerable.
I would rather hear Kimi Rakk(abc spell?)ion doing color commetary for a chess or paint drying match, than to ever hear Moody's verbal
diarrhea.
 
I had Pat Patterson on this morning on SIRIUS on my way to Phila. He's capable of some interesting discussion. It's mainly caller-driven but he brings up some interesting stuff. I really enjoy Kenny Wallace whenever he calls or sits-in on a show. That guy doesn't give a hoot what he says or who gets their knickers in a knot over it, which makes for good entertainment. I do miss Buddy Baker very much, as well. He was probably my favorite.

I will never like Dave Moody. I have disliked him even before he started covering Nascar.
 
Moody could be good if he wasn't such an obvious NASCAR ass kisser. He is usually right on when there is controversy between drivers.
Clair absolutely sucks. I question how much she even comprehends about the sport by some of the dumb things she says to drivers and fans. Seems like a nice lady but has 0 cred as far as I'm concerned about racing.
 
Kyle Petty is the worst media member ever. At least the Waltrips are only dorks (and can project enthusiam, too), Petty's actually a jerk, along w/ sounding like he's bored to be on TV and having no idea what he's talking about.

On the other side, I really like both Gordon and Burton, and Letarte, too. I know Rick Allen's style is...controversial...to say the least...but I find he does a good job of projecting excitement.

As far as writers, I'm not fond of Bob Pockrass, because his only goal in the media center seems to be to ask inflammatory questions. On the other end, I really like Chris Knight, his questions are great and so is his Twitter presence.
