NBC coverage still TERRIBLE

when the fox crew is on, its like I am putting a worn catchers mitt on. nothing sticks out as weird, The voices are familiar I look forward to their return and feel sadness when they say See you in daytona.
Its in a way, comforting to have them back

Jeff Gordon has really improved the Fox coverage. He has stated drivers likes and dislikes that no one else really knew about because they don't drive. Some of the Xfinity races that have drivers in the booth have been really good as well. Letart can only speak to what CC know and do. Burton has no business even being in the booth, it just isn't his thing, he never was any good in front of a camera even while driving.
I think Jaws has improved his second year with Jeff. He is no longer the star and he seems to have accepted that.

Now having seen both, I'd give the slight edge to Fox this year. Swapping out Larry Mac for Gordon is one of the best things they ever did. NBC's commentators are motormouths, but I think their graphics and camera shots are better than Fox's.

THEIR 3 WIDE ACROSS THE LINE ON LAP 75

jeff burton" this is a tough trac, very tough , its hard to pass, so its a tough track (10 minutes later) this is a tough track"

I don't care for side cams ans cameras that focus on a drivers feet, brake rotors, suspension or out the front and rear windshield or rear but that is just a personal preference. Primarily what bothers me about NBC are the 3 people in the booth as Allen sounds like a carnival barker and the other 2 have verbal diarrhea.

You and me both.

The complexities involved in the production of a dynamic, high speed event like an auto race are enormous. I think both groups do a decent job.

It is funny how Ned, Bob, Benny and ESPN were able to master the "complexities involved in the production of a dynamic, high speed event like an auto race" well over 25 years ago and FOX and NBC struggle today.

I have a low bar for TV coverage. I'm just happy that the races are televised.

I think all of us who continue to watch Nascar have had to learn to adjust our sights in all aspects especially over the last 15 years or so.

I didn't refer to commentary.

I didn't refer to commentary.

Even if you take out the commentary ESPN was getting done in many ways today's networks are not. They made use of blimps and helicopters as well as in car cameras and other placements. They always did go a bit overboard with the foot cam directed at the feet of Ricky Rudd when at a road course but that was really it. It seems that today the networks will use camera angles just because they can whether it is beneficial or not and they stick with certain angles for painfully long periods.

The other problem was they moved the race to USA network so olympic mens basketball could be watched. I had to do some searching to even find the USA network and reset my DVR.

That sounds like a personal problem, most cable platforms make it really easy to find USA because it's so popular. In fact, with the way Verizon FiOS stacks their tiers, if I'm watching something from one of my local channels and then start surfing, USA is literally the first cable channel I reach.

Ol DJ does a good job. Put him and Kyle petty in there. Or one or the other.

No more Kyle Petty. He was the absolute worst. And that couldn't have been easy to accomplish seeing as everyone else with TNT from '07-'14 except Alexander were godawful, too.

I have no problem with Nascar putting it's product on a different channel each week as locating the channel is easier than falling in love for me. However as I said earlier it all depends on the person and I think it is wrong to make a blanket statement that a person who cannot find a certain channel has a personal problem which is a nice way of calling them an idiot.

There are people with spatial difficulties and other challenges that render easy tasks for us difficult for them. Once you get a few years under your belt things can become far more challenging as tasks are not intuitive and you feel like a fish out of water. Something like hooking up a bluetooth device to a portable speaker is an impossibility without help. One day you will be there......:)

I liked Kyle and Wally together as they were much more eager to call a spade a spade unlike most of the others who would praise Nascar in all circumstances. I don't mind praise at all but I also like it when I am watching football and the guy in the booth will say an official made a bad call if that is what took place.

That's a fair assessment. Whereas mine quite clearly jumped to conclusions. I'm just used to being able to quickly locate cable nets by either surfing a guide until I see it or typing the net name into the provider's search engine.

I always thought Wally and Kyle were in competition to say the dumbest, most factually inaccurate thing possible at any given race. And they both sounded bored out of their goards even when the race was good. Those two would occasionally stumble onto insights about the problems with the sport (cause lord knows it has them), but more often than not they seemed to just want to insult anything and everything. One point I do have to give Kyle is that he at least seems to get that he was an incompetent driver and an abject failure at team ownership, whereas I think Wally had to be scripted into ever admitting his on-track shortcomings.

Incompetent ... short-comings ... You're a rather harsh critic.

Define incompetent in the Kyle Petty case, please. Wally Dallenbach has short-comings. Who doesn't ... in any profession? The guy won the Trans-Am championship twice, has 4 Daytona 24 hour and 2 Sebring 12 hour wins. Auto racing requires a lot of participants very much like Dallenbach.

Five top ten points finishes and eight wins over the course of thirty years, in equipment that most likely could've posted much better, at least during the first fifteen-twenty of those years. As far as team ownership, every call he made in regards to drivers and crew chiefs seemed to be the wrong one, and sunk Petty Enterprises further and further into the pack.

Dallenbach seems to have been much better suited to sports cars than stock cars. Just like if you put certain successful stock car drivers in a sports car and ask them to run a full season, they'd probably flounder, too. The very nature of sports cars vs. stock cars require completely different skillsets and even mindsets.

The statistics certainly do not suggest incompetence. Everything else there is subjective, IMO ... I think he stayed on far too long. As regards Petty Enterprises, it's likely that an ongoing dispute with his father over the level of investment required to keep up and other issues between them had a lot to do with the decline. I really don't know. Neither do you.

Dale back was a Trans-Am star and a journeyman in Cup cars. Not uncommon as you've noted.

Kyle Petty isn't very popular. :lol2:

I enjoyed the TNT races when Ralph Sheheen, Wally Dallenbach and Kyle Petty were on the call. Those were some epic broadcasts.

Nothing will top Allen Bestwick, Benny Parsons and Wally Dallenbach though. That was my favorite trio and I don't know why NBC had to mess it up.

I've never been a Kyle Petty in the booth fan. NBC's trio of Allen, Benny & Wally? I agree. Allen is/was one of my favorite NASCAR announcers.

rick allen: THEIR 3 WIDE!
kyle: thats incredible!

rick: AND HE'S SIDEWAYS OFF THE TURN!
larry: have you ever?!
D.W. NO I NEVER!

Rick: and their crashing in the turn 4!

It is very repetitive and predictable and you would think that some network honcho would try and fix things but like so many other things no one seems to care.

Who else is out there (besides Ralph Sheheen, who has other obligations as well)? Adam Alexander? Vince Welch?

I'd be fine with Ralph Sheheen/Dale Jarrett/Steve Letarte.

And I'd love to see Fox replace Darrell Waltrip with Andy Petree.

I just REALLY dislike FOX and NBC's color guys. Rick Allen belongs on the radio and Adam Alexander belongs in the utility room at the FOX Sports-Charlotte studio.

Also, I hope DW retires soon. Amazing how history repeats itself. Lol.

I like Andy Petree too as he can have a bit of an edge. IDK who NBC could get as a replacement for Allen that you haven't mentioned except maybe Eli Gold?

I don't get all the Rick Allen hate. Especially after years of Bill Weber, Marty Reid and Adam Alexander.

Bill Weber wasn't the worst especially in the beginning and I have no recollection of the other 3 you mentioned except I am thinking Alexander might have been on ESPN. If so he didn't bug me.

If by hate you mean criticism of Rick Allen I think part of it is his fake excitement and predictability. Maybe if he would settle down a little he would be OK.

Marty reid was great cuz if the race sucked i would get a good chuckle from him

marty reid "the 5th chase race for the 2016 sprint cup the dollar general 300 at texa smotor speedway is now green!"

(cars would be on backstretch by the time he got done
