NBC in, ESPN and TNT out in 2015

it's the same old story MONEY. for some reason nbc wanted it and paid to get it.didn't nbc get out and let TNT have there races?

Speaking of ESPN, I have a feeling NASCAR coverage is about to be rough. They've already dialed back how much they care about NASCAR to Honey Badger mode on their "How much we care about this sport" meter. Are they going to put in the effort to try to get Nationwide races on the air when College Football runs long? Or if a Nationwide race runs long, will they run it to the conclusion or just dump out?

andy----looks like ya called this one right !

haven't read all tha contract details yet..........but ya can bet nbc didn't pony up that kinda $$ w/o a plan.

----they got 2 yrs ta expand their nbcsn presence in a lot more homes.
----comcast/nbc deal figures into this long term somehow. xfinity on-demand.....etc. ?
----indycar is loser w/ deal ?
----lotsa cross promotion on chase sundays.....w/ nfl/snf.

1 good thing fer sure----2 less channel numbers fer us ole geezers ta remember. ha!

ESPN outbid NBC last time around ... NBC had just paid $6 billion for NFL rights when ESPN got NASCAR. TNT only stayed in because Turner Sports had digital rights.

NASCAR's in a good place right now. It'll be a staple for FOX Sports 1 coverage and will probably be the centerpiece for NBC Sports Network moving forward.

IndyCar's in a rough spot that they put themselves in. When they signed with VS and then re-inked when VS became NBCSN, they let ESPN dictate everything. In other words, NBCSN is nothing more than ESPN/ABC's cable partner - much like TNT was NBC's cable partner for NASCAR back in 2001-2006. ESPN decides what they get and they throw NBCSN the crumbs. ESPN also got it written in the contract that ABC is the only broadcast outlet that can air IndyCar racing (though they can move it to ESPNews or even off the air at will) while all NBCSN races must be on NBCSN. And IndyCar let that happen because "The Indianapolis 500 on ABC - a Memorial Day Tradition" was more important to them than anything to them. I'm sure IndyCar is regretting letting ESPN be king bigtime right now - because they might be in a situation where they have to go back to ESPN in five years or so where their races were pre-empted for tennis and ping pong tournaments.

I like IndyCar Series racing but I don't feel any sympathy for them. When that series becomes nothing more than what USAC Racing is now (no TV, no national presence of any kind except on dirt racing sites), they have nobody to blame but themselves.

And FOX paid up for a reason as well. That reason was FOX Sports 1.

I'm happy with the move to NBC. It's not like ESPN put a lot of effot into NASCAR. Sure they would have some commercials, and have a pretty decent broadcast team. but its not like NASCAR was ever a main story on Sportscenter or on the radio. Hell NASCAR radio coverage is at 6am on Saturdays? and on Mike and Mike they would sometimes have a big name driver during the last 10min of the show.

My favorite sports are football, hockey and NASCAR so NBC will get a lot more views from me. (Ignoring their awful political approach)

ought ta work out fine fer ya on weekends andy.
race durin day on nbcsn...........lockup.....caught on camera....etc ...... at nite on msnbc ! ha!

I actually like the MSNBC Documentaries. MSNBC Documentaries and A Region in Conflict with Ashleigh Banfield are the two reasons I started watching MSNBC.

If this means less Wally Dallenbach and Kyle Petty then it's great news. Allen Bestwick ain't bad though, he's like the "discount" Bob Costas.

However as a Canadian this worries me a bit because ESPN's coverage was carried by their Canadian partners TSN and their secondary channel TSN2. We get NBC but not any of their secondary channels to the best of my knowledge, so that means I might be looking at a big drop off in the number of races that I can watch.

As of now it looks like those races will remain on TSN. This was from the press conference yesterday:

Q. Steve, I have a question for you, and I may be incorrect, but it’s my understanding NBC Sports Network is blocked in Canada, and one thing we see is a lot of complaints from Canadian fans about their ability to access NASCAR coverage, so how will you address that?

STEVE HERBST: We have a TSN relationship that will continue, and we have broadcast TV, so our broadcast TV will reach Canada. We have the ongoing TSN relationship, and that’s how we’ll service our Canadian fans.

Does it really matter? Will anyone be truly happy with any type of coverage? NASCAR just does not translate well to TV and never will.

nbc got only 3 tnt races?
did fox get other 3 ?

This deal is Terrible NBC's Coverage Sucked last time and it will this time too, plus now you have to pay extra to get NBCSN and Fox 1 to watch the races. Terrible deal and NASCAR knows it or they wouldn't be deleting the posts that criticize it on their forum.

NASCAR has a forum again? Good - maybe some of the accounts on here will go back to their cesspool.

And I liked NBC last time. Allen and Wally are my favorites.

Well that's good news, thanks for sharing that info. I guess I can relax a little bit.

Yep they do and they can't handle the truth on it.

I liked Alan and Benny but I HATE WALLY NEVER WAS. Not a fan of Kyle now but atleast he won some races, competed, and has actual knowledge to fall back on. I also hate that they are sticking most the races on NBCSN. Well I'm not paying the extra each month to have a channel that is 99% crap.

At least right now I can pause the TNT coverage long enough to sync it with the radio so I can hear a good brought cast while I'm watching.

Well at least we get to ditch ESPN. But having pretty much all the races on cable is :bsflag:

I get NBCSN so I'm happy. it's not a great tv sport but every cup race is on tv and two broadcasting partners and their affiliates is better then three.

Honestly, I wish Fox had it all.

During the press conference, the NBC guy was asked why they didn't get the last 3 races left unsold and dude said they bought the broadcast rights to all the races that were available to them.

People who complain about things being on cable are like people who don't have smartphones or credit cards. I'm sorry, but if you don't have cable/credit card/smartphones, you're a second-class citizen in today's world. You may not like it, but you know it's the truth.

I've got satellite but it isn't on the package I get I get TNT and ESPN, Sorry I'm not paying for another package with how ever many channels I'm not going to watch just to get two channels that will suck 99% of the time unless NASCAR wants to pay for it. I haven't seen the Duels or All-Star race live in years because I'm not paying for an extra package. I didn't watch any races when Fox had them on FX either.

I think it's a matter of NBC Sports Network and FOX Sports 1 being on tiered packages... not a matter of cable itself. MOST people already get NBC Sports Network though and have since the channel was moved to basic cable on many providers because of the Olympics.

Yeah, I don't know what services people have, it's different from state to state, provider to provider but NBCSN is on the basic cable tier for my cable package. I get Speed/FS1 thru the sports package I think.

We just got the Speed HD channel after it being unavaialable here in CT under comcast for the longest time..

I can't get MSG and I'm blacked out of games because of it on this provider.

so on and so on.

You shouldn't have to change your cable/SAT package to watch the top Series in Nascar once a week.

I'm sorry that you are sorry, but if you are, what can ya say..inexperienced? to pay credit card interest, and cell phone rates and buy a whatever phone are paying a premium for Stuff. Good for you, but I learned a long time ago that things that make you money while you are asleep are a better way to go. I don't consider myself a second class citizen because I have neither. I retired at 58, debt free. Not bragging, I am not filthy rich, but I sure don't need a micky mouse cell phone and a credit card to feel like a somebody that's for sure. And I pay for cable because I have too. If nascar was on regular TV, I would drop this over priced hogwash re run B.S. in a minute...

Maybe, but the way I see it, the world moving more towards mobile apps, staying connected with the world on the go. Credit cards (or debit cards) useful for online purchases and not having to carry copious amounts of cash with you. Cable and Satellite left broadcast television behind years ago, my friend. All the best programming is on pay TV. The 500 channels of crap are worth the 10 good channels, in my humble opinion.

ah whoops, big difference between a credit card, paying credit card interest to use money and a debit card which I do have. If you live in a populated city and don't go far, you can get rid of your land line and pay three prices for a mobile phone and app yourself to death. I live on the side of a lake, the don't work unless you go outside or stand in the bedroom and lay up against the window.o_O when I had one, and I have had many, I would get dropped two or three time driving 35 miles home...not to mention when I owned a big truck and drove cross country. I have been using those P.O.S every since I had a brick phone, but at least I got to write them off on business. So you see your vision might work for you and that is what they say on the TV, but it isn't that way everywhere.

This. I live in a well populated area with many many options for cable, internet, and phone. I have the ability to spend hard worked money on these things. So the NBCSN won't be an issue for me, because I will choose that it isn't. What people like Kevin don't understand is there are millions of people who don't have the option or means to get NBCSN because of money, location, or just don't see the reason to spend $5 to $20 extra a month for a sports package. There are many NASCAR fans who don't even have basic cable and only watch races on network tv.

I have no other choice except satellite for TV ---- unless I want to put up a 75-100 foot mast and hope to hell I can zero in on the "huge" TV stations out of Tyler, TX. That's it. Cable is only offered inside the city limits of Palestine. Hell, I can't even get decent/reliable radio reception from the local radio stations. Cell phone reception? --- forget it. I carry a cheap Tracfone when I'm driving because I may need it. It does nothing but make/receive calls and texts. I carry it with me when I'm outside using the chainsaw hoping that if something happens I can get help. *fingers crossed*

But, to return to the topic --- I subscribe to the top tier simply because I want to see all the racing that's offered, when it's offered.

My "hooterville" phone company..largest independently owned phone co. in the U.S. with a whopping 22oo customers finally got over to my side of the lake with cable about 5 years ago. I am second from the end of the line so it took another year to get "High Speed" internet and digital TV. I have tested the speed..lower 15% in the U.S., but still alot better then the modem I had to use. I had to buy a bunch of crap I never watch, and bundle the Phone, internet, and TV in order to get the speed channel. It is a bit cheaper than the dish and better reception. $145 a month for the bundle.

I pay about $20 less than that and get 65mb down and 5mb up. Ouch. Although, I would greatly pay $20 extra for slower internet to live where you are living.
