Nelson Piquet fined

He's done some stuff on F1 too. I think he learned from Flavio Briatore, the master of cheats.

Stupid. Piquet was teasing his friend, not insulting him.
Few things suck more than speech nazis, soulless dirtbags who constantly are on the lookout for something to act all butthurt about.

If I had said what Piquet said to a customer on my last job, I would have been suspended without pay for three days and had to take sensitivity training classes. Nascar doesn't want the image that stick n ball sports has earned when their athletes are off the playing field. And to the ones that think they can say anything they want on the internet, now, more than ever before, twits, tweets, e-mails, and forum comments are being used in a court of law to prove various cases.

If I had said what Piquet said at my previous job to anyone, I would've been unemployed faster than a citizen of Detroit in 2008.

As a result, Piquet not only has to undergo mandatory sensitivity training but it's also being reported that Piquet must drive one of the two pink racecars this weekend at Kansas.

No matter where you stand on this issue, we can agree that social networking isn't a good idea when you're a public figure. Either you say something stupid, or someone will take something you said the wrong way.

indefinite probation, I guess that is worse than double secret probation the Penske outfit has been in and out of all year.

Does saying *** bring in more fans or turn away more fans? I'd suspect the latter, because no one on here is watching NASCAR to hear it. Plus, NASCAR's sponsors are interested in maximum exposure and increased brand loyalty. A driver throwing *** around in public today doesn't make for good business on the sponsors part. No one is going to say, hey Pique is my guy cause he said ***, but there's certainly a contingent of people that don't want their kids to hear it and may turn away from watching.

Anyone that quits watching NASCAR because Piquet said *** was never a fan in the first place.

He's not even an A list driver. Not like Jimmie Johnson said it. I only brought it up on here because most of us follow Nascar more than the average fans.

The fact that this much fuss is being made because someone uttered a single word in www land is pathetic.
I wouldn't care if Helton said it. It's a word, nothing more.

Was he? Why isn't his "friend" defending him?
Why isn't anyone questioning pk's sexuality? It was a statement that's being taken seriously, but not that seriously.

Really, he probably thought nothing of it. Infact he probably texted piquet back(cause that's smart) and was like "you're a ***! Haha rofl lmao I'm over it"

These guys should know better though. They see each other every weekend. Save the shop talk for the shop ya know? Sometimes I don't understand how they are such successful spokespeople, guess everyone slips.

.No one is going to say, hey Pique is my guy cause he said ***,
Nah I've actually got more respect for him because he's more like me :D So ill pull for him more. Completely unhappy with NASCAR for invading the personal life of a driver. It's not like he was going to the club & doin drugs. He was just bein a normal guy geez if the PC police heard how my college buddies talk to each other they'd have a stroke.

If Clements can be suspended for whatever he said (we haven't seen or heard exactly what that was), then Piquet should also be suspended because we saw what he said.

Well on the most unfortunate Wednesday mourning after Nelson made his tragic tweet, I suppose we will be forever scarred by the hate of such an evil man.
Nelson has crossed over to the dark side and lost his soul I suppose.

Just remember that the bad man that doesn't tolerate the sissy girlie types of men. His dad learnt him the right way.
When Nelson landed his Chuck Norris like roundhouse kick on Brian Scott everone should have known, surely this man is an alpha type that will not abide any foolishness.

Exactly. Clements said the N word I think so the N word is worse than the F word according to nascar. How come its ok to go off on cussing rants on the radio during the race without a fine?

Because, theoretically, radio communications between team members is not public. They allow us to listen, but that could be revoked.

Exactly like the podium, it's your choice to enter or in this case listen, don't enter or listen if you have tender ears or thin skin, it's your choice.

They also read a disclaimer before the race

I sure hope that it never comes to that. I think that we're already dangerously close to that with the whole MWR debacle.
That would destroy a great deal of my enjoyment on race day if they restricted the radio chatter, if you are listening Nascar please don't do that.

NASCAR/the teams can't restrict the radio access. The most they could do is set up a trunking system like police use. Right now, I can waltz in TMS with my HAM radio, pick up the list of frequencies, and tune in. Oh, and I have a valid FCC ID card and license and am (albeit unofficially) registered as an emergency communicator for Tarrant and Johnson counties via the Johnson County Amateur Radio Service. As such, hey couldn't deny me entry due to my radio if they wanted, far as I know.

And, in Indiana as a ham, I have the right to carry a digital scanner.

Jeez, I hope they aren't that stupid. You'd have no idea what was going on with strategies. You sure as hell can't hear the announcer over the cars, either. :(

Have you ever noticed the 800 frequencies listed with the standard UHF frequencies for each team? ;)
No, I've never seen the list of them. I get my frequencies either off of the scanner hauler at the track or a couple sources online but I've never seen the 800 mHz listings for the team.

They use them and they used to be published. I can't find them anywhere now. Hmmmm!

Time to do a search at the FCC website.

Now it has reached to NASCAR. :(

I'm not choosing sides as that's what the Podium is for but another effect that this has had on me related to NASCAR is..... The campground that I have reservations for is run by the Army Corp of Engineers. It too is currently shut down. Should they not be back in business by the race I'll be looking for a new spot to camp for Martinsville. Not that big a deal in the scheme of things. There are plenty of places that I can park my RV around that town.

WOW!

I can't believe Helton and France aren't in Washington fixing this mess. ;)
