It’s ‘Pads Day’! Time for real football to begin.
This hit me right in the feelings! By far one of my fondest memories growing up was going to Eagles training camp. Story time...
My grandpop retired early and my late father worked night shift so 10ish mornings a year they would bring my cousin and I to Eagles training camp, which was hosted at Lehigh University about 35 minutes from where we all lived. We went all the time for many many years, and once my friends, cousin and I could drive we started going ourselves. This was give or take 20 years ago so it was before smart phones and all the information wasnt at our finger tips. DPKs post reminded me of listening to sports talk on the drive up in the morning and finding out they're "in pads" or "hitting today" was sooo exciting and would add another level of excitement!
Walking through all of the merch tents, my dad getting a bunch of free crap (lol) and being 10 feet away from some of the best athletes in the world. The wet grass, Andy Reid waltzing around, the loud airhorn blasting over the 4 fields signaling the next drill and the cheers and groans for good/bad plays. All culminating into 11v11 live drills on one of the fields to end the practice. I can remember all of the visuals, sounds and smells like they were yesterday.
Unfortunately, the Eagles hold training camps at their complex now and only hold 1 or 2 open practices at the Linc which all proceeds go to the Eagles Autism Foundation. These open practices are so neutered down they don't do anything but run around in spandex so nothing worth while to see, unless you have children.
Dont ever question my Eagles fandom
