Nice job Fox Sports 1

Hold up golf is quite an athletic sport, try playing 18 holes, carry your clubs, and don't use a cart and tell me you don't have to be athletic, so I call BS on that.
Wtf? So because you can't afford a club holder guy or a cart, NOW it's a sport? Dude I've carried coolers over my shoulder down the beach longer than any golfer has walked 18 holes. Does that make beach cooler carrying a sport too? **** no. Golf is NOT an athletic sport, it's an old wealthy man's backyard hobby. The masters course is roughly 4 miles in length. God forbid you get some exercise. My folks walk the dog longer than that.

... for all you know a crazed fan could run up and take the trophy and run off with it right when he's about to get it .. did you think about that? Hm? No... I'll bet you didn't .. Tsk tsk... You should no by now anything CAN and WILL happen in NASCAR....

I've tried telling myself in five prior instances at Homestead that anything can happen to prevent Jimmie from winning the championship. Been disappointed all five times.

But ESPN says golfers are more athletic than cheerleaders and fisherman so they're hardcore athletes. I'd argue that the cheerleaders are more athletic than golfers but whatever.

At the same time, comparing some hot shot CEO golfing at a country club to Tiger Woods and saying golfers aren't athletes is on the same level as saying racing in NASCAR is the same as driving on the highway.

Easily. Anytime the coach makes up his mind to have an inside conditioning day running gym stairs, usually the cheerleaders are on the court doing their workouts as well. Watching what they do & their conditioning routines sometimes made me happy that I was only doing stadium steps.

Did you ever play sports? I have just about every one you can name and golf is a sport.

ath·lete

/ˈaTHˌlēt/

noun: athlete; plural noun: athletes
1. a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.

@JeffBurton
We need a cup owner to provide a current car, go to Bristol,put McNabb in for 500 laps by himself. Then ask if drivers are athletes

@JeffBurton
I understand why people watch and it doesn't look athletic. The only way to prove it is to put people in 'real' cars and let them learn

@nascarcasm
McNabb MAY just have championship envy. Jimmie is on verge of sixth championship, which will give Jimmie six more than McNabb.

@nascarcasm
McNabb's correct in saying @JimmieJohnson isn't an athlete, because @JimmieJohnson is a triathlete

@PPistone
When you're more known for a soup commercial with your mother rather than as a QB I'd shut my pie hole before spouting about athletes

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. @StenhouseJr
Wow @donovanjmcnabb really? Got to b an idiot. I'd like to see him keep up with @JimmieJohnson in a workout. And drive our cars for 500miles

@KurtsTemper
Fishing is a sport. Bill Dance is not eligible for the Heisman. Not saying he's not an athlete. Hey calm down, fishing people!

@TheOrangeCone
Hey @donovanjmcnabb lets make a deal. You NEVER EVER attempt to talk about NASCAR and we don't remind you how much you sucked.

Did you ever play sports? I have just about every one you can name and golf is a sport.
Football & soccer for my high school & currently walk on soccer at my college. I've played 18 holes of golf once. I sucked so I had to walk a lot more. My heart rate goes faster after sneezing than playing golf.

Hmm, there was a guy who worked at ESPN who did a Reddit AMA and said that folks like Skip Bayliss are paid to have counter-points in these sport debate shows and play the antagonist in conversations. Have to wonder if McNabb was supposed to take this route to get NASCAR fans upset.

Also, McNabb thought Danica Patrick won the Daytona 500: http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2013/02/18/nfl-mcnabb-makes-nascar-gaffe/1928193/

Tiger woods doesn't carry his clubs, nor does he walk the holes, so...

**** yea they are real athletes! McNabb should go to a July race, suit up in a suit that's going to be hot as ****, get into a car that's going to be hot as ****, and wrangle a car that's verging on the edge of being too loose around the track for 500 or so miles while going close to 180mph. Not only that, you have to coordinate with your crew chief, talk to him about what's going on with the car, and you gotta pay attention and talk to the spotter so that you don't crash into another car. Oh yea, there's about 42 other drivers out there with you and to make it to the front of the pack, you either have to qualify up front or you have to work your way up in the pack. Note I said work your way up, you can't just barrel through, there;s a lot of give and take.

McNabb and Fox Sports One can go **** themselves.

But, professional golfers have people carry their golf clubs for them and they drive a golf cart to get to the next hole.

Even if you think about it, the two best QB's in the league being Manning & Brady... they aren't exactly the epitome of athleticism.

After I saw a monster red and white golf bag in a friends office one day I said "See you took you took up the gold game".
He's a good sized guy and he got right in my face and said "It's not a game, it's a serious sport". I laughed out loud.:)

Golf as a sport ranks right up there with tiddily winks.

It's the age-old argument I've heard more times than I care to remember. Naysayers will never be convinced until they experience first-hand the athleticism that it takes. Forget Bristol, I'm sure he'd have a hard enough time with just the Richard Petty Driving Experience...

But this is hardly surprising coming from McNabb, the man isn't exactly the fountain of knowledge when it comes to sports. Heck, he hardly knows about his own sport:

I saw this this morning on a rerun before reading the forum and knew there would be a sheetstorm abrewin. :)

he said Tiger Woods is an athlete lol. yeah ok he swings a golf club and walks on grass but he's more athletic than a race car driver. lol who is this guy anyways.
Tiger Woods is an athlete. We found out just how athletic he was around Thanksgiving 2009.

And he also plays golf...

Nascar, Golf, both are sports, They both take athletic moves like hand eye, muscle memory, endurance,teamwork ect............

Anyone who says different is just not educated enough to no any better.:)

I never cared much about this whole debate on whether or not NASCAR drivers (or any racers for that matter) are athletes, though I lean toward the side that says that they are. I didn't even so much have a problem with McNabb's initial comment that JJ isn't an athlete. What irritates me is how dismissive he was of the difficulty of NASCAR when the blonde pressed him on his comment. "He sits in a car and drives"? Really? It's that easy? Just like driving to work everyday, right? Then he tries to backpedal and says he respects what Jimmie has been able to do and that he'd put him third on the list of most dominant athletes. :huh:

He clearly had no clue what he was talking about. To be fair, the blonde did seem kind of surprised that he would even go there, and Andy Roddick did a great job defending Johnson. Tennis is the only other sport I follow these days, and it was nice to see a tennis player sticking up for a NASCAR driver.

Agreed with this 100%

The driver athlete debate is an old argument. People know that driving isn't very taxing at 60 mph. I think people also know that driving fast is mentally taxing. People probably don't understand how taxing extended exposure to centrifugal force is on the body plus the mental tax of driving fast in close proximity with other cars. Drivers also participate in their sport much longer so the average person might consider drivers lesser athletes because they associate an athlete as being a young person's thing.

Drivers workout like other athletes these days. Physical conditioning is important for race car drivers.

I wonder if McNabb considers the pit crew athletes?

Seems more like McNabb then Fox Sports 1, the others seemed to defend Johnson so I'd give that Middle Finger to him, not the network.

Fox Sports 1 doesn't really seem to care about their NASCAR broadcast though.

But that has nothing to do with what McNabb said, the girl who works for FS1 didn't seem to agree with it, and the other two didn't seem to agree either with him. Rather that care about Nascar or not is another story, it has nothing to do with this part here.

That's true that they defended JJ, but they(Fox Sports) do employee him. So they are responsible for what he says, no?

Saying race drivers aren't athletes is like saying horse jockey's, bowlers, golfers, and all those who don't play Football are not athletes. But I'd love to see McNabb drive a race car or be a horse jockey and let him run his ignorant mouth afterwards. Like to hear Gibbs respond to him, he's seen both sides of the sport.
