I never cared much about this whole debate on whether or not NASCAR drivers (or any racers for that matter) are athletes, though I lean toward the side that says that they are. I didn't even so much have a problem with McNabb's initial comment that JJ isn't an athlete. What irritates me is how dismissive he was of the difficulty of NASCAR when the blonde pressed him on his comment. "He sits in a car and drives"? Really? It's that easy? Just like driving to work everyday, right? Then he tries to backpedal and says he respects what Jimmie has been able to do and that he'd put him third on the list of most dominant athletes.
He clearly had no clue what he was talking about. To be fair, the blonde did seem kind of surprised that he would even go there, and Andy Roddick did a great job defending Johnson. Tennis is the only other sport I follow these days, and it was nice to see a tennis player sticking up for a NASCAR driver.
