NNS Championship

Makes no difference to me if the champion has a win or not. The driver that earns the most points during the year should be the champion IMO. Unfortunately NASCAR listened the last time the vocal few cried about this we ended up with the Chase. I only hope NASCAR isn't listening to this, this time. Who knows what they'd come up with?
I don't know, to me there's something kind of empty about winning a championship without winning a race. I hope that if Austin ends up winning the championship, that he wins the race tomorrow as well.

In my opinion if he comes in behind just the cup drivers, it will be his fourth win.

They don't really need to do anything drastic anyways. Kenseth, Logano, Keselowski, and Busch are all going to end up running 15+ Nationwide races - just impose entry limits.

I still say put restrictor plates on the Cupper's N-Wide rides.

Restricted to 10 MPH over minimum speed after the contracts are signed and he has to race so we can watch kybu Spontaneously Combust.

And it will be further proof that he shouldnt be in the cup series
Nope, cup equipment, teams and crews against Dillons NNS only team, crew and equipment, big difference.

This is offered simply for a little perspective.
I realize that a lot of you like Austin Dillion. I do not.
Many of you do not like Kyle Busch. I do.
Many of you think that Austin Dillon would have more wins this season if it weren't for Kyle Busch and the rest of the Cup drivers running in The Nationwide Series.
2004 was Kyle Busch's first Nationwide Series season. Kyle had 5 wins in his first Nationwide season, beating Cup drivers like Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Mark Martin, Kasey Kahne, Robbie Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Kyle finished 2nd in his first Nationwide Series season, also winning ROTY.
Kyle moved to the Cup Series full-time in 2005 winning 2 races at 20 years old (3 years younger than Austin Dillon is now.) Kyle was ROTY in his first Cup season, also. Kyle is also the youngest to win a Cup Series pole (in his rookie season.)
Not JMO, but fact.

Back then it was easier for the small teams to compete. Don't forget that he raced for Hendrick Motorsports.

We have to wait a whole year for me to say "i told ya so" :D

There is only one Kyle Busch Bobby, mr Dillon cant hang with him

Back then it was easier to beat Cup guys like Martin, Stewart, Kahne, Dale Jr., all of whom were running Cup team cars?????
:bsflag:

I can't tell you how many times I've heard the "Back then it was easier to bla bla bla" argument...

Back then it was easier for Petty to win his championships because it wasn't as competitive as it is now.

Back then it was easier for Earnhardt to win his championships because it wasn't as competitive as it is now.

Back then it was easier for Gordon to win his championships because it wasn't as competitive as it is now.

I guess in the next era when JJ's streak has long since ended and some other guy is ruling the sport, the fans of that driver will be saying... back then it was easier for JJ to win his championships because it wasn't as competitive as it is now.

Some things never change.

Like now, back then everybody had the same opportunity.

Kahne ran for Akins Motorsports. Stewart, Martin, and Dale Jr. combined for only 13 Busch Series starts in 2004.
So.........at that point in their lives they forgot how to drive???? Mark Martin, at the time was the winningest driver in the Busch Series. Kyle beat them while racing against them, something Dillon has yet to accomplish.

Getting a little tangential here...if we're talking about Kyle's Busch Series success early in his career, it should be noted that Kahne wasn't in Cup equipment and the other three hardly competed.

The others were already winning in the much more difficult Cup Series. Kasey was already a Cup driver. Kyle was 19 years old in his FIRST Busch Series season, beating Cup drivers. Dillon is 23 and hasn't won against the stiffer competition.

I think this is where we disagree...it looks like Cup drivers are competing more in Nationwide now than they were back then, hence why Dillon does not have nearly as many victories as he would otherwise.

And Kyle didn't face nearly as much Cup competition then as Austin has this year.

I'm getting dizzy.
Kyle also wasn't driving for his multi-Cup-Championship-team-owner grandfather in Cup Championship caliber equipment.
I'm trying to offer a fair analogy of the two drivers.

But he was driving for Rick Hendrick, who has a decent Cup organization.

Ok, then by your analogy, explain why Dillon hasn't won this year?
No analogy needed - several Cup drivers (Busch, Keselowski, Logano, and to a lesser extent Kenseth) competing frequently in elite equipment have taken away at least a few victories from him.

IMO, that doesn't explain away, NO wins this season. He's running comparable equipment to any car in the field. At some point it comes down to driver talent.
Regan Smith has two wins this year against the same caliber drivers.

I guess it was easier for a NW regular to win a NW race back in 04. lol

He did pretty good on the Cup side where it really counts for a Cup'er.

Pretty good but he hasnt impressed me much. If he cant win in all three series he aint nothin special.

If you look at the multi-time champions in Sprint Cup, they all have one thing in common: they rarely run in the Nationwide Series. Jimmie Johnson runs it once in a blue moon. Jeff Gordon has made exactly 11 starts in the series since 1993. Tony Stewart usually runs Daytona and that's it.

Dillon dominated one of the races Smith won (Michigan) before cutting down a tire and broke a spark plug in the other one (Talladega) which is a bit of a crapshoot anyways.

I think it was Johali who pointed it earlier - Dillon has been "best in class" several times this year so he'd have a few victories without Cup drivers.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree
I'll save my judgment for Dillon's first full Cup Series season.

While it may be true that it's harder for a NW regular to win a NW race these days because of all the Cup drivers that run those races compared to years past, you can't deny Dillon's equipment is every bit as good as the equipment that the Cup drivers have in the NW races.

It seems the deciding factors would be experience, skill, and talent, with a pinch of luck.
