The recent music threads about what's dead and what isn't, what's just plain awful and what's great got an idea in my head. I've done something similar to this elsewhere, so a few here will recognize it, but it will be a little different. This will be a place, to put it simply, post what you like. That easy. There are no prescribed guidelines, there doesn't need to be any order, just whatever you think is good whenever you think of it can go right here. It can be videos, a list of 10, a list of 50, whatever. This is one that is intended for people to come back to when they have something in mind, so theoretically it could go on for a long time. Or it could be a dud, but I don't think we usually hesitate to let it be known what we like when given the chance.
Smash hits, one hit wonders, obscure artists, all of it can go here.
So, here's how I will start it, with links to the Youtube video for select songs. All I'm doing is thinking and letting them fly:
The Animals - House of the Rising Sun (1964)
Dobie Gray - Drift Away (1973)
Muddy Waters - I'm Ready (1978 Version)
ZZ Top - She Loves My Automobile (1979)
Hawkshaw Hawkins - Lonsome 7-7203 (1963)
The Black Crowes - Twice As Hard (1990)
Bob Dylan - Tangled Up In Blue (1975)
Taj Mahal - She Caught the Katy (1968) You might recognize this from the opening sequence of The Blues Brothers.
Billy Joel - Movin' Out (1977)
Creedence - Green River (1969)
BJ Thomas - (Hey, Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song (1975)
Jon Tiven - River of No Return (1996) I believe this was recorded before the Jeff Healey version, but not released until '96.
ZZ Top - Waitin' For The Bus (1973)
Billy Currington - Good Directions (2005) I guess not all modern country stinks, but the ones I like are few and far between
Steve Winwood - Dirty City (ft. Eric Clapton) (2008)
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Refugee (1979)
Kenny Rogers - Lucille (1979)
Marty Robbins - Devil Woman (1962) I think one of the most under rated country songs there ever was
Steve Miller Band - Jet Airliner (1977)
Bad Company - Rock & Roll Fantasy (1979)
Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away (1987)
Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin' (1973)
Supertramp - Take the Long Way Home (1979) Don't really like anything else by Supertramp, but I can't get enough of this one.
The Black Crowes - She Talks to Angels (1990)
The Statler Brothers - Atlanta Blue (1984)
The Statler Brothers - Bed of Rose's (1970)
Billy Walker - Cross the Brazos at Waco (1964) Another badly under rated tune.
So there's a good mix of things, and I'll likely be back for more? What say the rest of you?
