This past Sunday at Loudon was the most fun experience I’ve had a track yet. Little back story, about two years ago I started listening to a podcast called “Loose is Fast”. A nascar podcast made up of 3 regular nascar loving friends who started a podcast as a way to hangout once a week and talk NASCAR together. Low budget, not really produced and just a laid back 2-3 hour discussion once a week. I suggest giving it a listen.
All 3 guys are from NH and this is their home track. Through their discord I became friendly with them and got tickets in their group and was invited to their tailgate.
Fiancé and I decided to make it a weekend getaway. We got up to Concord Friday afternoon, checked in and took the 15 minute drive to the track to get merch, watch truck qualifying and just hang out at the track.
Saturday we did some basic tourist stuff and went to a fancy dinner and dessert in the concord area.
Sunday morning we met up with the podcast guys and their crew in concord and caravaned to the track together. 60 mph on the shoulder (open to race traffic) and sipping coffee in a 15 car caravan wasn’t on my bingo card but adventurous none the less. Tailgated from one of the parking lots from about 10-1230 and had a great time with a bunch of “strangers” just excited to be there and go to the race.
Then hit the fan zone and into the track. Watched the anthem and start your engines from the fence, always one of my favorite parts of the day. We watched the first stage from our seats. Went to get food, wander around the merch haulers and finish watching stage 2 from the railing. Around this time got bombarded with texts about the Eagles having a miraculous comeback win so that was a cherry on top.
22 is my favorite driver and the 12 is my fiancés favorite driver and my second favorite driver. By stage 3 it was pretty apparent one of those two had a very very good chance at winning the race so we decided to watch all of stage three from the railing. Moving closer and closer to the finish line as the stage went on. By the end of the stage we were dang close to the SFL and got to see Blaney take home the victory. Fiancé was ecstatic, I was in my happy place and it was a great way to end the race. Watched Blaneys whole post race interview and none burn out (boooo) before speed walking back to our car and getting out of the track without hitting much traffic.
What a day.
