Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

A look inside Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Whisky River.

If you're a NASCAR fan, you've likely already heard about Whisky River.

No, not the uptown Charlotte bar owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. I'm talking about the original Whisky River — an Old West town Earnhardt built on his property.

Like many of you, I'd seen it before on various NASCAR-related shows — such as ESPN and SPEED's programming — but never in person until Wednesday.

Earnhardt opened his property for a commercial shoot — the Sprint All-Star Race has a Western theme again this year — so I got to visit Whisky River and watch some of the action.

Since I was viewing the town through a first-timer's eyes, I figured some of you might be interested in what was there.

First, the basics: Earnhardt got the idea for the town while watching an old 1990s-era episode of 60 Minutes, in which Willie Nelson was profiled. Nelson had an old movie set on his property and filled out the buildings to make them functional.

"I thought it was a great idea, and I'm really into the Westerns," Earnhardt said. "I'm into the Spaghetti Westerns and all the stuff (Clint) Eastwood did in the '70s and '60s. It seems like a fun, mysterious time."

Earnhardt and his buddies drew up the plans for the town on a napkin. They started with the Silverado Saloon — a full bar for the driver and his "Dirty Mo' Posse" group of friends to enjoy — then added more Western-style buildings around it.

I wonder if Junior has ever thought of opening that to the public for tours and stuff .It could grow into a Dollywood type of thing .

Jr is such a naturally shy and private guy that I doubt he'd ever want the public on his turf. But it sure would be fun to hang out there and party with Dale Jr. IMO he's one of the smartest and interesting drivers in the sport and one can only imagine the stories he might tell after a couple of brews.

Oh yeah, I'm sure he has some great tales of back in the day. If you haven't read his old Playboy interview yet, that has a couple of good stories.

I would like to see Vickers get a ride for the Daytona 500. I doubt his part time deal with MWR is exclusive.

lol, you bunch of mammary obsessed race fans.
It's all part of racing, isn't it?

Bill Romanowski, who played 16 seasons in the NFL, has signed on as a minority-owner of Swan Racing, a fulltime competitor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The retired NFL star joins forces with upstart team owner Brandon Davis, who is leading Swan into its first full racing season. Romanowski’s health supplement company, Nutrition53, also signed on as a team sponsor and will be the primary sponsor for ten races on the No. 30 Toyota driven by David Stremme. Nutrition53 will have an associate sponsor position on the car for the other 26 races.

I officially hate you.
Plenty of tickets remain. You can hate me from as close as anywhere in my row of empty seats if you wanted. I went online the other day to check out the availability. There are seats all over that venue that are available for the spring race. Fall tickets also go on sale soon.

You know I would love to be there, so now you're just ticket teasing me.

One day... some way, I'll be there.

Former NASCAR driver Tyler Walker arrested after chase, drugs involved:

Two California residents were taken into custody Wednesday morning after leading Nevada, Arizona and Utah Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit. The driver, Timothy Tyler Andrew Walker, 33, and passenger, Raelie Hann McDonald, 30, both of Hermosa Beach, were arrested on a variety of drug and alcohol charges. UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said his department was notified of a pursuit traveling northbound on I-15 in Arizona at approximately 7:30 a.m. The car had failed to stop for Nevada troopers, who were pursuing the vehicle for speeding and felony evading. Troopers searched the car, finding methamphetamines, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol in the vehicle. Walker is a former Nationwide and Truck Series driver suspended for violating NASCAR's drug policy in 2007.
