Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

next week.

The Texas victory lane celebration will stay.

Six-guns firing into the afternoon sky? Cowboy hats and near-naked trophy queens? What's not to like?!
Only the fact that the Trophy Queens are wearing effing firesuits in Victory Lane.

Oh, how I miss the good ol' days...

Another chapter in the Jeremy Mayfield saga.....

NEWTON, NC (WBTV) - Former NASCAR Driver Jeremy Mayfield was hoping a ruling from a judge Wednesday would solve his legal troubles in Catawba County. Instead, the ruling means he likely will go to trial on charges of possession of stolen goods, possession of methamphetamine and several other charges.

Mayfield's attorneys had filed a motion to throw out a search warrant that was obtained by law enforcement in 2011 and led to the discovery of what authorities believe were stolen goods and methamphetamine in Mayfield's Catawba County home.

The defense argued that there was no credible basis for the warrant to be issued.

Hamlin will go to Martinsville; hopes to return at Richmond: Showing minimal aftereffects of the crash that has sidelined him in Sprint Cup, Denny Hamlin was in good spirits and solid stature Wednesday at Joe Gibbs Racing. He smiled broadly while holding his 2-month-old daughter, Taylor. He joked with reporters. He seemed relatively ambulatory while walking around the shop wearing a back brace beneath his black FedEx polo shirt. But his discontent with Logano hasn't.
"I don't blame him for the particular injury," Hamlin said in his first extensive interview since returning home last week from an overnight hospital stay. "I do for the wreck. The injury was circumstantial. A wreck on a 2-mile speedway, you risk getting hurt. That frustrates me the most. Listening to him say, 'I'm sure Denny's fine, these cars are safe.' That really gets to me because he's taking for granted no matter how hard you wreck, you're going to be fine.
[Hamlin] is hopeful of returning by the April 27 race at Richmond International Raceway, which would be two races earlier than the original prognosis of a six-week recovery. But the return will be dictated by doctors, who aren't expected to scan his back to assess his progress for at least another two to three weeks. That won't keep him Sunday from Martinsville Speedway, where he is planning to be on the pit box watching Mark Martin pilot his #11 Toyota.
Hamlin, though, doesn't think NASCAR should take any punitive action [against Logano] because of the "self-policing" philosophies often employed by drivers. Tony Stewart went after Logano after the Fontana race because he was unhappy with a blocking maneuver and vowed to retaliate. See much more at USA Today.(4-4-2013)

From Dec-Feb, ISC profit was $13.5M, down from $17.1M in 2012; the profit from core operations was $15.5M, down from $17.07M

Yeah it's a no contest between the two in terms of viewers.
It doesn't help that the IndyCar opener was on NBC Sports. That was a darn good race. Over the last ten laps, Simone DiSilvestro put on a clinic on how to block without really blocking, and on old tires too.

Is NBC Sports the old Versus?

Then that is bad for them, (IRL). I just realized recently that I don't have that channel under Dish Network. I did have it when I was with DirecTV. I called this morning and had to bump my basic package up a tier to get that channel back. For me, the IRL wasn't a concern but the NHL was. I couldn't watch my Penguins get beat 6-1 last night. What I'm getting at though is that channel certainly has a limited audience and that can't be a good thing.

Absolutely. This link has a good breakdown of cable sports channel distributions. NBCSN is available in 20+ million less homes than ESPN and ESPN2 are, and it's also available in many less homes than SPEED is. That's a huge dent in potential viewership.

Remember at the 2002 Daytona 500 when Sterling Marlin got out of his car during the red flag to yank on the fender?

I had a dream about that last night for some reason. Sterling was a good driver but he's kind of an idiot.

it's one of the reasons that Ward Burton sends Sterling a Christmas card every year . . .

Does anybody hate NASCAR's web page as much as I do. It takes for ever to load; and when it does all of the drop down menus are transparent. It impossible to read them because the words from different layers blend together. Who designed and approved that page? NOT USER FRIENDLY!

Guess it is bad if you are on a phone, I can see it fine with a desktop. but the info on there is another story. weak weak weak.

How did Tony Stewart get the nick-name Smoke? I don't really recall anyone calling him that.

A much younger and thinner Tony Stewart having issues with the late Kenny Irwin Jr. Those two had issues even before they made it to Nascar.
