Coor's Silver Bullet?

Richard Petty talks about Ford Richard Petty said Sunday after his driver, #9-Marcos Ambrose, won at Watkins Glen that his company would have to renegotiate with Ford after the season. "I seen some of the Ford people there today. I told them, `Me and Marcos won the race.' I had the contract in my pocket. I was going to let them sign it right there. I don't think it went over too good."(Associated Press)(8-13-2013)

I have a really bad feeling the RPM is going to be the odd team out in the Ford/Roush/Penske/Dodge shake up :(

I was thinking the same thing when I seen the article. I don't know why Fo*d would hesitate signing the contract with them if they plan to do so. Penske's decision to switch has had a lot of impact on other teams and NASCAR.

It's obviously about money. Murstein wants more, but from what Petty said, they got pushed to the side a little when Penske came in.

The one thing I haven't heard announced is a technical agreement between Penske and Roush. Perhaps Roger could offer to sell chassis to Jack. ;)

The top 4 in pints have the chance to clinch their playoff spot this weekend. They need to leave Michigan with at least a 145 point lead over 11th position. Johnson, Biffle, Kenseth & Earnhardt Jr. all have a chance to do so this weekend.

I wonder who's going to get the better package for the future , Gibbs taking on Kenseth or Penske if he takes on Logano ?

Good question. Kenseth is in the last half of his career and Logano has, IMO, yet to live up to the hype.

proportionally, 6' 2" Logano should have the better package. ;)

If I had to choose one 2 drive for the next 2 or 3 years, it would be Kenseth.

Have you considered switching the channel from Lifetime to ESPN once in a while ;)

IMO I think Penske with Logano. Think him and Brad will work well together and Joey will come in to his own. Joey is only 22 and I think Brad can help him a bunch. Of course all this still has to come together and become official.

Good question. Kenseth is in the last half of his career ..

The last half is generous . I think that he is looking at a fat five year contract to end his career . Anything more than that would be edging toward Mark Martin territory .:D

The way things seem to be headed in Nascar, any 40 y/o driver who can get a fat 5 year contract with a top team would probably be wise to take it and run.

40 isn't all that old in NASCAR. The guy that won the Cup title last year is 41. Most of the top 10 guys are over 35, a couple are over 40. Jimmie is about to turn 37.

Random thought...anyone think Bobby Labonte is going to retire soon?

I agree the end of this year will mark a full 9 seasons since he last won Homestead '03. You almost forget he is out there most times now.

Most fans especially new ones will remember him for being a backmarker not the great championship duo with him and Dale in 2000 when he won. You'd think after watching the last 10 years of Richard Petty and DW these guys would wanna go out on top. Look at the guys still hanging on, It's time to move on.

Cough Terry Labonte Cough...who still is showing up occasionally. In my opinion Bobby, Burton, Nemechek are a few of the guys who its probably time to hang it up and let the Stenhouses, Baynes, Whitts, and Allgaiars of the world move up.

If things stay like they are right now where it's hard to land a ride and keep it, it may force some of these guys out. IMO the handwriting is on the wall for Burton with the Dillon boys moving up.

A driver will only be in the car until the owner/sponsor feels they aren't getting their moneys worth. It's not the driver dictating that unless they decide to step down. The owners/sponsors will dictate when the Dillon's, Stenhouses, Baynes, Whitts, and Allgaiars of the world move up.

Yes Matt is only 40 , but at the end of a five year contract ,he would be 45. Getting close to decision time.

Some drivers can clinch Chase spot after Michigan: Though seemingly a formality, five drivers can mathematically clinch a spot in the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Here are the candidates, and the necessary facts and figures for a clinch:
• #48-Jimmie Johnson: The magic number for this weekend is 145. Any driver 145 points ahead of 11th place leaving Michigan will clinch a top 10 spot, which is of special importance to Johnson. After race No. 26 at Richmond, all 12 Chase drivers will have their points reset to 2,000. But only the top 10 will earn three bonus points for each win during the regular season. Currently Johnson has three wins, equaling nine potential Chase bonus points. Johnson currently sits 124 points ahead of 11th (a maximum of 47 points can be made up in a given race). He could also clinch at least a Wild Card spot by winning on Sunday, regardless of his stature ahead of 11th.
• #16-Greg Biffle: Biffle can lock up a top-10 spot. Currently owning a 123-point cushion over 11th, Biffle needs to reach the magic number of 145 leaving Michigan.
• #17-Matt Kenseth: Like his Roush Fenway Racing teammate, Kenseth can clinch a top-10 spot by leaving Michigan with a 145-point lead over 11th. He currently sits 122 points ahead of 11th.
• #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Earnhardt has a tougher task than the aforementioned drivers. His current cushion over 11th is 107 points. He can lock up a top-10 spot by reaching the 145-point magic number.
• #2-Brad Keselowski: Keselowski has a remote chance of clinching at least a Wild Card spot with a win on Sunday, depending on the finishes of a number of other drivers. (NASCAR)(8-16-2012)

145 remember that number.
