Just like the title says shutting down so much stuff that involves controversy is not helpful to growing the site. Controversy drives content. It gets people talking and coming back to post more. The best forums alllow nearly all things to play out. Not doing so killed the speed channel nascar forums from back in the day which used to be huge. I say stop shutting so much down......please.

Yeah everything controversial ends up in the podium I can't think of any threads fully deleted that werent spam, we will see an occasional lock when a non-political topic becomes nothing but insults. TRL does a great job at keeping this place under control and I know I wouldn't want her job for a minute:D

We dont agree on a great many things but @TexasRaceLady placing the political oriented threads in the podium is the best move. You can ask her for Podium access. It polices itself, so be warned.

Besides, she askes several times for posters to keep it civil and yall just couldnt.

Moderation had nothing to do with the Speed Forum shutting down.

JMO but I don't see debate being shut down but just moved to a different auditorium and that is not an inconvenience at all. I have never asked for access to the Podium as I want to keep as faraway from political talk as possible but it might be something you enjoy so asking for access and checking it out may take care of the issues you have. Peace.

@hidesert cowboy --- I moved the threads about the anthem protests simply because they cannot be discussed without
bringing politics into open forum. It's too controversial and too many people can get totally irrational about the subject.
They are all in The Podium -- if you wish access just let me know.

This is why the owner put this up in 2012.

My only argument would be that sometimes sports and politics truly intersect, and as much as we wish they wouldn't, they do, and pretending that they don't is sort of absurd. My advice would be that the title of the thread tells you where the conversation was going, so you then make a choice to participate in that discussion or not. I've never seen the need to hide the dirty laundry out of sight. Enough said.

too much trouble to leave a note when a thread gets moved to the podium I would guess. As it is, it just disappears. took me quite a while to figure that out. The O.P. and newer posters didn't know.

I've seen links to some 'moved to Podium' threads stick around in their original forum for several hours.

Sending a PM to TRL would take all the guess work out of it. I have seen a "denied access" message or something like it and that clues me in right away that something has been deleted or moved. Either way none of this is rocket science, IMO.

A note is left for 24 hours by the software and the thread is visible. Just click on it and it will take you to the moved thread.
If you do not have access to The Podium, you will be denied access.

It is certainly easier than the Pythagorean Theorem.....I think.....:D

For triangles with one 90-degree corner, add the squares of the two sides coming off the 90-degree angle. The square root of their total will be the length of the side opposite the 90-degree angle.

Geez, what could be easier?

hmm I have never seen one of those, must be my browser and the anti pop up stuff. I would like to follow those threads when they disappear. What happens when you ask for podium access, does a hammer come out of the screen and knocks some more brain cells out of ya? I'm ready, got my helmet on give it to me baby I'm goin in

I have never thought that an entire thread had been deleted, only some of the posts. I have to give TRL a lot of credit for the way she moderates this board. The posts she has removed would have sparked animosity, and crippled true discussion. She also plays no favorites, if you get out of line, she will call you on it. When discussing a sport we all love, our passion comes to the surface. When we have opposing viewpoints, things can get out of hand very quickly. On some subjects, TRL has let them go on longer that I would have, but that's why she has this task, and not me. IMO her judgment is beyond question. With the intensity of some of our posters, it can't be easy to know when to draw the line. It seems to me she makes the right call every time. Maybe we can get our resident award presenter to give you one of those pat on the back award, Lord knows you deserve it.

I don't know man, I've heard things about that place. I am curious, but yellow.

Nope. The Podium forum is located just above "Stairway to The Podium". I'll give you access. Just give me a minute and
you may have to refresh the main content page.

Done, StandOnit. Be careful in there.

I agree, and I'm not a fan of censorship, but it's not my forum so I play by the rules of those in charge.

Very few people post there, so I see it as effectively ending it. Again, it's your forum so that's totally fine with me.
I think you might be surprised at the number of posters in there.
The subject can get so heated, divisive, and controversial, it can bring out the worst in some. Can't have that spreading hatred in open forum.
The owner made the call to separate The Podium to a closed forum.

Then join and see that what you feel is effectively gone is actually alive and well.
Not many people post in The Annex either.

I am glad the politics is seperated and for good reason.
90% of the poduim is a personal vendetta between just a few posters, running it in the ground

I try to spend less time there.

I think there is/can be decent debate going on in there but to wade through it you're gonna get your shoes dirty.

...which is why I don't like name calling and personal attacks. I avoid it but if someone uses it first, I engage them. I enjoy the political debate. There are only three posters that are unable to debate me with out name calling. All three are on ignore and The Podium has been more enjoyable.

It takes to much time, 90% plus time scrapping **** off the shoes. I think a more civil debate coud be found among true unapologetic barbarians.

I'm in, for you outers? bunch of politics and current events stuff for the most part. Very little racing topics. Probably need to start a KDB thread to liven the place up. Personally it is a hell of a lot better over on this side. Looks like threads over here go to die over there for the most part.

You've been there for a few hours. It takes a little longer than that to get a good idea of what goes on there. There can be good debate. Some threads have hundreds of replies.

LOL, the podium is just as busy as the main forum.

I gotta go with TRL on this one, it belongs in the podium section.
