Silly Season For 2017

Smart move, just focus on one team for now before deciding to expand again.

Almirola could be in a great position now with the team possibly focusing on him. I like this move a lot for RPM.

I would be very glad to see Almirola and Petty running competitively again. I'm concerned that it's more like the loss of the money Brian Scott brought with him has an already shaky financial enterprise teetering on the brink, and they're just trying to survive. I don't know if there's a workable path for how they improve. Hire new managerial people (again)? Help from SHR or Penske? Wait for Dodge?

While we're at it, how come nobody screams about crew chiefs with Cup experience taking jobs away from car chiefs who want to move up?

If the lower tiers are for development, they're not just for developing drivers. An inexperience crew chief is going to progress faster when teamed with an experienced driver than he is having to develop both his own skills and coddle a rookie shoe. A Biffle is going to be a better match for that new crew chief than an ROTY candidate.

Maybe yes and maybe no as a novice crew chief could likely get some sort of internship with and experienced team or CC and be available to see what goes on.

If there is a workable plan for them to improve I am all ears but I don't think one exists unless it includes divine intervention.

It's my firm unmovable belief that if it were Jimmie Johnson instead of kybu then you would be preaching from the opposite pulpit.

I have said repeatedly that I have no problem with a Cup guy in the lower series, but whatever, any post that @blanston likes is a worthy post indeed. Cheers to the Muppet Show. Now go get yourself that Happy Meal before Mom calls lights out.

Biffle didn't get fired, he stepped down on his own...... because of that, I don't see how he will have a lot of pride to swallow.

Have you ever been in the coach lot?

Haha. That's funny. Good one!
I don't reply to you directly simply because I've learned that, apparently, your infantile behavior has garnered you enough pity to be basically untouchable here. Your posts constantly attacking others are the only ones which get to stay around so....
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your "Muppet Show".
I'll just have me another nugget.

So the performance clause follows the charter itself, regardless of team? I would expect that loophole to be closed relatively quickly.

Indeed. I think it should be closed and reworked. Its understandable all the leasing activity from the lower-tier teams this past year. Just doing all they can to keep their nose clean and out of the bottom 3. Regardless, each can only do this once per 5 years so in a year or two all options will be exhausted and we'll see if the top teams step in to bail them out with some creative sale-leaseback arraignments or let them get effectively relegated by Brian.

Sorry, I still don't see what that demonstrates. He's owns his rig, he'll certainly continue using it.

Do you think so? I mean on the ownership of the rig, and using it? The point being made here is that there is a giant leap between what Biff has had and what he would be heading into. Having the ability to stroll the three garages, this had a profound impact on me. I will be fascinated to see if Biff's love of racing can overcome the obvious discrepancy. That's all. I am doubtful that Greg will continue to live the life of a Cup driver while driving something other than a Cup car. As @aunty dive indicates, it is unlikely that we will find out anyway as rides seem scarce.

As I was brought up to believe "people that don't have a viable answer just attack". And as you well know I'm 73. A little too old for junk food.

Isn't that the truth!? Yeah, it's a good idea to stay away from that junk food. We have lost plenty of great members over attacks and nuggets. It's a shame really. Have a good one.

So, there is more to the DiBendetto story that is a lot more interesting....
http://www.motorsport.com/nascar-cu...detto-leases-charter-to-wood-brothers-859660/

The 32 leases its charter to the 21, but decides to get a charter on lease from the 44. The 44 team also sold 6 cars to the 32 team.
This says to me that the 44 is closing it's doors!

It could be they want to take a year to see if they can make the 43 better and maybe are getting some help from Ford or Ford teams. No sense in having those cars lay around and they are not worth much so the 32 team gets better equipment, they get their charter higher in the standing with the Wood Bros using it and the 44 charter stays on the track so Brian can't pull it.

I think this is a good move by all.

With the Wood Brothers leasing a charter, does it appear they might not be running full time if the Penske/Blaney alliance goes away?

Certainly not the kind he's used to. I'm not even sure there's an available seat that would cover 25% of his last salary.
I'm sure he was aware of that before leaving..... That makes me think he was really dissatisfied with his current position.... enough to effectively cut his salary by 75%...... But...... 25 % of his current salary would let most all of us live a very comfortable existence. No pressure like he was under and get to enjoy life a little more maybe.

This assumes leaving was his decision. And before you quote the press release, just know I've read the press release.

And you may be right...... more than likely are because you are much closer to the situation than any of us. I just took from what I read that he left on his own...... Maybe that wasn't the case..... Sometimes there are behind the scene things that evolved that aren't mentioned....

I dont think he left by his own decision had that been the case CB would be in the 16. But with no sponsorship this is the result.

Yet a 75% reduction in lifestyle nonetheless......with 75% less amenities.....for a guy who has had a respectable career......I think the romantic in many on this board would like to think he would drive for the love of driving, but in reality, if his financial portfolio is in order...doubtful.
