Sloppy Chase, Sloppy racing.

Nothing is gonna beat Stewart v Edwards imo
Dpends how u look at it.. being tied after 10 races and with the way that final race played out was pretty awesome... but imagine 4 drivers filling out the first two rows on a restart and whoever gets in front wins the cup...

This has been brought up plenty of times already, but by creating this new points system, NASCAR wanted to ensure that every single points battle ended with a Game 7 moment. That seems like a great idea at first glance, but the powers that be didn't realize that Game 7 moments are awesome because they happen naturally and don't always occur every time. That's what makes them so special. Ensuring that a Game 7 moment will happen at the beginning of the season defeats the entire purpose of it and actually kills a lot of the buzz IMO.

Im in it a week.. a lap and a restart at a time man... if the racing is exciting... manufactured or not.. Ill likely enjoy it.

Already know what Jr thinks about it, and I am sure we haven't heard the last from him. When he gets knocked out, I am sure there will be a few remarks from him and the peanut gallery, probably pretty close to what is being said around here I bet. I doubt the rest of the drivers will have much to say, King Brian and his henchmen will quash any uprising before it gets started.

Reminds me SOI--RTA....wonder what happened to that?

sooooo.....mlb fans would prefer a 4-0 world series most yrs vs a game 7 one every yr. ?
makes that game 7 "special " .
sort of a "watch tha game ....eff tha world series " attitude i guess ! :D

As wonderful and dreamlike as that would be ...imagine the four contenders lining up from 20th to 24th on the last restart ,one lap down .... Highest finisher wins it all....... And the crowd goes wild .

No......... the crew said the tires were fine, the bully is driving scared, karma has bit him every week........................ karma is in his head

Imo the Karma Sutry stuff could be more tastefully considered in a Samantha Bush thread.

I don't like the format but I am tired of complaining about it.

Part of the reason that NASCAR appeals to me is that I never know what will happen any given week. Will we see a first time winner or see someone snap a long winless streak? Will one of my drivers win? Will Kyle or Harvick or somebody do something crazy? Will we see a new rivalry start up?

My guy Junior hasn't won a race in four years. There are 30 laps left and he's solidly in front under green...now 29 laps...28...oh crap, the 78 just blew an engine and he's smoking on the apron in turn three. Oh man, please don't throw the yellow! Phew, he made it back to pit road. No caution! Wow, Junior might actually win this!

Jimmie Johnson has a decent lead over Carl Edwards, some young guy I don't know too much about, and we're getting pretty close to the end. Sigh. Here we go, another Jimmie Johnson victory. Wait a minute, that 99 car looks like it's a little closer to Johnson than it was a few laps ago. Ehh, Carl ain't gonna do nothin'. It's over. No, wait, he's going up high now, and he's getting even closer. Really? White flag. Dude, he's there! No way is he gonna pull this off. Oh wow, they're side by side out of turn 4! OMG, he beat him! He won! Did that really just happen!?

Kurt Busch has been incredibly lucky and has seen his title hopes flash before his eyes plenty of times throughout the Chase. Now he's trying to win his first title today at Homestead, but it's not set in stone and there are a couple of guys that have hung in there and could knock him off. He's coming to pit road...OMG, his wheel just came off! Are you serious!? Right before he got to pit road! Wow, how unbelievably lucky was he!? How does that even happen? He might pull this championship off after all! Go Kurt!

Moments like that are why I watch this stuff. That's real drama. Those moments weren't meticulously planned out by the head honchos months before the season started. They just happened all on their own. That's what made them special.

Really? What special, memorable moments have we seen in the Chase so far this year? Almirola blowing his engine? Kasey Kahne advancing to the Pretender round in like 20th place, a lap down? Biffle accidentally wrecking Johnson? (Well, I guess that was exciting if you dislike Johnson.) Junior blowing a tire and crashing? Harvick accidentally pitting thinking he had a flat tire when he didn't? Joey running away with the win this past Sunday and Slice not letting us hear the end of it, as usual? Excuse me while I try to contain my excitement.

IMO, real drama > manufactured drama. The moments I listed in my previous post were real drama. Resetting the points four times in ten races, including right before the last race, is manufactured drama, and as such, it's whack.

Eff this Chase.

yeah me too, nothing like it used to be. It wasn't manufactured way back then. they just ran as many laps as they wanted, based points on who ever won the race, if they liked him, he got more points, they could run any engine they could stuff under the hood, ah the good old days when they didn't manufacture the drama. :sarcasm:

Didn't know which 'hate the Chase' thread to throw this in.

@HigNASCAR What?!? The best teams in the MLB regular season didn't make it through the tough playoffs? That's so unfair!!!

But does anybody care ? It's only baseball.

I love it.... not sure why everyone hates so much that a bad race has even more of a chance of taking someone out now. Guess they enjoy having what you did 4 weeks ago help u from a bad day? To each their own I suppose. I prefer this way... even if Joey wins the next 5 races.. makes it to Homestead and wrecks on the last lap... it is what it is.. if u cant perform under what will likely be the epitome of pressure in a single race in the history of NASCAR... you don't deserve it. :idunno:

you just wait..it is coming, if not Charlotte, it will be the big one at Talladega..you think they are crying now, we ain't seen nothing yet.

Let's reset the points three times. We'll eliminate the bottom four every three weeks, but if you can win a race, you get immunity until the next round and someone else will end up in the bottom four. Then, for the last race, we'll reset the points one more time. The final four will advance to the final round and perform in front of a live studio audience at Homestead-Miami Speedway in beautiful Homestead, FL. The winner will receive $5 million, a lucrative record deal with a major record label, and an additional $100,000 to start their own fashion line.

This is a reality show.

mg......you beginning ta sound like enid strict ---dana carvey's church lady on snl ......." isn't that spe-cial " !! :D

Had to Google/Wiki her since I don't watch SNL. She sounds hilarious. :XXROFL:

Look, I'm as battle weary as @Greg is, but somebody has to fight the good fight up in here!

In this context the church lady is good company. We oppose Brians Farce, and the church lady ridiculed the likes of Jim Bakers PTL self serving shenigans, and Jimmy Swaggerts greased palm hypocrisy.
Take it as a compliment like her we know bull**** when we see it.

And the France apologist are laying on the self defeating crying about the crying pretty hard themselves. It is a free country as well, no ones approval is needed, especially when we are right.

How do we know they were the best?

They were so mighty good they were under .500 teams.

Assuming dp meant teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, it isn't like they were in the fight for a spot to begin with.

And as far as the best teams making it to the playoffs this year, they did.

Wait...am I suppose to talk about stick n ball here? I just earned myself 10 days in hell. ROFL

Not sure which anti chase thread to mention this in but...

Remember not too long ago when Bruton Smith was going on about TV time outs? Now we have this segmented chase, with a winner take all finale, much like stick n ball sports... So if Brian and Co. are trying to make NASCAR more like those sports... what are the chances of having segmented races in the not too distant future? Like periods or innings or quarters in stick n ball.............

Golly gee . Do you think we can get a seventh inning stretch ?

I suspect within the next few years, and it will be coined the "race format of the future" or something like that. I wish they would just do shorter races.

I could see them making the races shorter and taking 10-20 minute breaks or something... I almost shudder at the idea but the way they're headed its definitely a possibility.

Here's what I'm talking about - if we just awarded the pennant to the team with the best record in each league the Angels would've made the World Series this year by a mere two games over the Orioles. But the Orioles had a tougher SOS and were significantly better against teams with a record of .500+ (51-40 versus the Angels' 41-43). They played different schedules and despite the Orioles not having as good a record you could easily argue they were the "best" team in the AL in the regular season. So playoffs are a bit of a necessity.

In NASCAR, everyone plays everyone else every week. Stupid argument.

I'd hate to see segments. They render most of what happened prior to them meaningless (not unlike the umpteen cautions we get every race). Shorter races - sure. No time to hang back and ride around. Although, I'd keep the traditional endurance races like the Southern 500 and World 600.

Yeah, I have to lol a bit when people make the stick-n-ball to NASCAR playoff comparisons, like it's the same thing. Completely different set of circumstances.

The only reason Im not a big fan of the idea of shorter races is because then they would have to shorten NNS races too no?

There are a few I wouldn't mind seeing 100 miles shorter.. and a bunch that are already 300ish miles... 400 is a good number though.
